OS X :: Unable To Drag And Drop From FTP To ITunes
Jul 26, 2009I have most of my music hosted on an FTP server, so I'm looking for a way to drag and drop from the FTP server (connected either through Finder, or any other client) into iTunes, and then have iTunes copy the music to my library. That way I don't have to download it to my local HDD, then import into iTunes, then delete the orginal. Just skipping a ton of extra work if I can drag and drop. Currently, I only get disconnected from the server if I try to drag and drop from Finder, and get nothing from Filezilla, and Transmit.

Dec 7, 2010I have a brand new MBP. I have a 1tb external drive with 250gb's of music. I have it attached to my mac via USB. I CANNOT GET ITUNES TO CREATE A NEW LIBRARY ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. I CANNOT DRAG AND DROP OR ADD FILE/FOLDER.
But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.

Nov 28, 2009I was wondering exactly how the drag and drop function works. If I drag a file from the desktop to documents, I am assuming it is moved, not copied? If I drag a file from the desktop onto a flash drive, I am assuming it is copied?
Which leads me to: dragging a song from iTunes onto a folder in the desktop and then dragging that folder onto a flash drive. I am assuming the iTunes song will be in the new folder and on the flash drive? I thought there was something weird about having to have the iTunes songs in the iTunes folder?
And finally, if I decided to make an alias folder with songs (let's say it was an artist folder within all the iTunes folders and I made an alias on the desktop), and I dragged that alias folder onto a flash drive, would the flash drive's folder have the real files of the songs?

Dec 2, 2010I am no longer able to drag and drop. I can't drag a file from one folder to another or to the trashcan. I can't pick things up and move them in any application, such as Photoshop or Illustrator. When I attempt to drag something, I click, the cursor picks it up, and then I can't drop it anywhere. Everywhere I move the mouse, the object or icon goes. Nothing I do will make it drop. I have to command+option+esc to open up Force Quit. Once I force quit the application I initiated the drag in, the problem goes away. The problem is not associated with the trackpad. It persists even when using my old USB mouse and with my mighty mouse. I have all one-touch settings turned off. See attached screen caps of my trackpad, mouse, and universal access settings.

Jul 27, 2009I suddenly lost the ability to drag and drop and copy and paste. I've looked up previous threads and have done what they suggested to no avail. I've restarted finder; rebooted the computer; repaired disk permissions; and tried to trash the cache file "com.apple.dock.iconcache" but when I ctrl + clicked it to send it to the trash, it was removed from the cache folder but doesn't show up in the trash bin. This is my work computer so I need this resolved ASAP.

Jun 30, 2012IF you cannot drag and drop in iTunes for Mac then the issue is your Windows Mouse. Use a Apple Mouse or the Touchpad. It will solve the problem.

Nov 3, 2010I've noticed that I can add folders from network shares (in this case samba) to my sidebar in finder but I can't seem to add the actual share folder.So if my server has the share stuff and inside stuff there is a folder named documents I can drag that folder to places in my sidebar but I can't do the same with stuff. Jan 28, 2009I've had the last two versions of Keynote and just upgraded to iWork '09. In the past I could drag a file from iTunes and drop it on to a slide and that song would be there. Now when I drag it over I get the green + sign, but when I try to drop it, nothing happens. I can still add the same file by using the media browser and searching for it in my iTunes playlist, but that takes significantly longer.
I use a lot of sound files in my presentations and it's much faster and more convenient to find them in iTunes and drag-drop them into Keynote.

Feb 5, 2009When I have an Iphone or Ipod attached to the computer and showing up in Itunes, I was just wondering how to drag and drop movies or music directly to the media device, without first dragging it into the Itunes media library or into a playlist. I used to be able to do this. Since then, I must have updated Itunes or reinstalled it or something. But now I can't drag and drop anything directly onto the media player. I can't create new playlists directly on the media player either (I have to open them under "Playlists" and then checkmark them to be synched. I'm assuming there must be some sort of simple setting in the options that I've changed.

But, now, if I drag another album over to copy before the previous batch of 10 has finished transferring, the 10-album transfer is canceled, and the new album starts copying in its place. Before, dragging new files over to the phone during a copy would add to a "queue" such that your current copy job was not canceled.

Programs for simple tasks like uploading music onto devices should be efficently coded, not resource hogs that are incredibly unintuitive and needlessly complicated. Why can't we just drag and drop music and videos directly onto our phone like we can with just about every other media player? I already have all of my music organized just as I want it on my computer. Just let me drag the folders I want directly into the iPhone without having to bother with a 100mb download that runs like crap.

Feb 4, 2009So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?

May 26, 2010I'm running a Unibody MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I'm having issues with dragging - specifically, releasing from drag. I can start dragging fine, but once I start the mouse pointer won't let go, even if I release the button, and nothing will cause the pointer to drop the item being dragged save killing the application I was dragging from. It's especially infuriating when dragging items around on the Dock, because when you're dragging a Dock icon you can't select items with the mouse, and earlier today I had to use a series of keyboard shortcuts to get to the terminal to kill it.) A restart will usually fix this, but it inevitably pops up again. It happens with both my Mac's trackpad and my Magic Mouse, so it might not be a hardware issue but I'm not sure. I previously used JiTouch for additional gestures, but I don't think it's the cause as the issue crops up even when JiTouch is completely disabled + uninstalled.
