has anyone achieved/know how to achieve this? drag and drop a wav, mp4, ogg, etc onto a folder and have it covert to an mp3. is there a audio converter app that plays nice with folder actions?

I want to search document contents for a topic (that I have hundreds of files on, but all over the place) using the finder. Then, I want to be able to drag and drop all the files into a topic folder. But, the search/finder window does not permit drag-and-drop functionality.
To me, this is hugely frustrating. It would be the easiest way for me to organize my mad mad files.I'm looking for suggestions for how I can do this? I'm on MacBook Pro OS 10.6.4
Since cut option is not available in mac, i am always trying to move the files by holding the mouse and dragging. And most of the time i realised i need a function like this. for example i am in folder1/folder2 ..and just want to take file from folder2 to folder1... but since there is not any "go one node above" option, i have to open everythng from the beginning... especially if those folders are located in a deep location such as user/lib/appsup/etc.

I tried to drag and drop the folder (I named mine "mungo" that contains the sub folders >music, documents, downloads, movies etc on the dock. but I missed and it has now vanished with a *poof*. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to mac and a pro windows user. It's not been a month since I bought my first mac and now I'm feeling so comfortable with it.
I have a basic question on how to select a few files, drag and drop it into a new folder in the same folder level
For example, In windows I do this
1. Select few files in C:Temp
2. Cut those
3. Create a new folder and rename it C:TempNewTemp
4. Right click the folder and Paste it.
This is what I do in Mac now
1. Choose the files to be moved into a new folder (When I'm about to drag it, I remember that I've not created the new folder! Grr..)
2. Create a new folder and all my selection is gone
3. Now reselect all the files again and drop it to the new folder (Phew!)
Am I missing the cut feature in finder??? I know that 'Cut' is not much required in mac since everything works on DragNDrop.
I'm not sure whether there is any workaround for people like me who are used to selecting the files before creating a target folder. I'm sure that there should be something which can help me create a folder onthefly while dragging the files and keeping the selection intact.
After downloading a photo, I'm only able to drag it from the Downloads folder and drop it to my Desktop or another location about half the time. Often, I must open Downloads in the Finder to drag and drop. The Finder option always works. Is there a preference setting I need to change so that dragging and dropping from Downloads is always available?

I'm aware I can alter it for Firefox and Safari, but how do I point the 'downloads' folder on the dock to the new location? Or is it a simple matter of drag and drop from the new location onto the dock and remove the old one??
Didnt want to experiment in case its a 'special' folder.
I've been scouring Google for an Automator action that will allow me to drop .doc or .docx files into a directory and convert them to .odt, but so far I've had no luck. Can this easily be done or does it require a lot of programming knowledge to pull off? I really hope someone can help as this is a repetitive task that would save me a great deal of time.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have most of my music hosted on an FTP server, so I'm looking for a way to drag and drop from the FTP server (connected either through Finder, or any other client) into iTunes, and then have iTunes copy the music to my library. That way I don't have to download it to my local HDD, then import into iTunes, then delete the orginal. Just skipping a ton of extra work if I can drag and drop. Currently, I only get disconnected from the server if I try to drag and drop from Finder, and get nothing from Filezilla, and Transmit.

View 12 Replies View RelatedWell, I am learning how important drag and drop is on OSX. There is no Cut/Paste of files and many tricks require dragging on top of an apps' icon. So, I hate the tap to click and I can't stand the unibody trackpad click and drag. I can't seem to keep it depressed and drag across the entire High Res screen. Is there any alternative? Say a key I can hold to lock the click so I don't have to keep the pad depressed?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Unibody MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I'm having issues with dragging - specifically, releasing from drag. I can start dragging fine, but once I start the mouse pointer won't let go, even if I release the button, and nothing will cause the pointer to drop the item being dragged save killing the application I was dragging from. It's especially infuriating when dragging items around on the Dock, because when you're dragging a Dock icon you can't select items with the mouse, and earlier today I had to use a series of keyboard shortcuts to get to the terminal to kill it.) A restart will usually fix this, but it inevitably pops up again. It happens with both my Mac's trackpad and my Magic Mouse, so it might not be a hardware issue but I'm not sure. I previously used JiTouch for additional gestures, but I don't think it's the cause as the issue crops up even when JiTouch is completely disabled + uninstalled.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem for a long as I have had Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The problem is that drag & drop works intermittently for applications such as the Finder, iTunes, Fetch, etc.
My workaround for the Finder was to switch from list view to column view, but for programs like Fetch or iTunes, I cannot do that. Sometimes the solution is to relaunch the application, but this is not guaranteed.

I don't want to "Save As...", because it's much more time consuming than simply drag and drop. All of a sudden, the feature does not work anymore. I can only drag images to a TextEdit, creating a Web Archive -- I don't need that, I need to drag them to a folder. Is there anything I can do? I'm using an iMac with Lion OS, and I did update to the last version of Safari.

I recently bought a Macbook Air which I am still getting used to. I had an older Macbook with a mouse because I disliked the trackpad on the Macbook; the Air trackpad is much nicer but I can't seem to drag and drop anything in stacks. Yesterday I found that I can't drag and drop any files on my desktop. I get the white circle with a line through it when I try to drag anything. I can drag off of my desktop to my HD and to the trash but I can't drag anything back. I've read all of the previous threads about it and have tried all of the poetntail fixes including:  Creating a new user account and switching back and forth

Checking all of my settings in preferences

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set up and sucessfully tested a workflow which sends any file found in a particular folder to the "paperless" app, then moves all files to a different folder called "Archived attachments".HOWEVER as a folder action, nothing happens when a file is put into the folder. The file just sits there in the folder. To create a folder action I opened "new folder action" in Automator, then dragged and dropped the working workflow file into the workspace, then set "Folder Action recieves files and folders added to" the appropriate folder, let's call it "Attachments".Just to complicate things, the files are placed into the "Attachments" folder using an applescript that captures all pdf mail attachments.
