I have just discovered much to my delight - that I can burn my music files as MP3 format. Obviously I have had to chanage the preferences and some items I have had to re import - but with existing files I have had to create an MP3 file from the existing file - which creates a duplicate.I can see which are which by listing KIND is there an easier way to delete the original AAC file? I really don't want to have too many (as I have too many already) music files.I have tried searching for the duplicates under finder but only the new file is showing? So far I am using a playlist to create MP3 and I imagine that then clearing the playlist and recreating playlist - list by kind and slect all AAC to either deselct or delete.

So I know about the actual menu item in iTunes, but I'd like to know if there was a way to only remove true duplicates, not the same song on a different album. Like I there is one song from a particular artist that is on 3 different albums, is there any way to have all three songs read from only one file in the HDD? That way, the song would be a part of every album, but it wouldn't take up my HDD space. I could probably do this manually by deleting those other two files, and then "locating" them when iTunes can't find it, but this would take forever. So is there any app that does such a thing? Or am I dreaming?
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy library has some issues in that it does not register all of my songs in itunes
I know this as when I copied my entire folder to my macbook (minus the library and .xml files) I have a few hundred more songs than I do on my desktop
However, since I did not have the .xml and library folder carry over, I lost all my playcounts, playlists, dates, etc that I like to have.
Is there any way I can reimport my entire library and only add the songs that are not "seen" by itunes at the moment? FWIW, I have thousands of song files and I do not want to manually search for which ones show up in my mb library but not my desktops
I cannot fin how to cancel all duplicates tracks on iTunes

View 5 Replies View RelatedI gave my daughter a DVD with a number of Albums on it in mp3 format. When she imported them into iTunes on her MacBook(Intel, 10.4.11, iTunes v8) some of the tracks were duplicated.
When her flatmate imported them into iTunes on her PC, every track was duplicated.
Any ideas as to why this should happen and how to stop it?

CNET is full of apps to scan and delete duplicate music files in the itunes media folder (I'm not talking about the duplicates in itunes library but actual duplicated files), any decent app that can get rid of mp3's and keep the lossless versions?Â

I have an iPod, but I just got a droid mobile phone, and I want to use them both for music. In order to get my "protected" songs purchased from the iTunes store on to the phone I have burned them on to cds and imported them as MP3s into iTunes. So now I've got over 100 duplicate songs (protected and mp3), and I want to delete the protected versions so that the remaining mp3 versions will sync with both my iPod and my droid phone.
If I delete these protected (purchased) songs from the library, will they remain in the iTunes Music folder on my pc or will they be completely removed from my hard drive, too?
Then, if they are completely deleted from my pc, is there any way to recover these deleted purchased songs if I ever wanted to in the future?
Okay, so for two of my albums (both by the same artist) there are three pictures of each album as if they are each their own album. Every song is tagged the exact same, nothing's different, artist name and album name are the same throughout. Screenshot attached. I've tried clearing album art, deleting and reimporting, nothing seems to fix this.
Also, on that same album, half the songs don't play on my iPhone/iPod. They play perfectly fine on my Mac, and they are encoded the same as all of my other songs, but when I go to play them on my iPhone, the song never starts. Nothing freezes, the song just never plays. I have to restart the iPod app for any other song to play. I've tried restarts, restores, firmware upgrades, nothing. This problem has existed since 1.1.4. Why?
So I just did a clean install of XP on my laptop, downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and re-imported my music library from my external drive. Suddenly, random albums are showing multiple album art on Cover Flow. I'm sorting cover flow by "Album Artist", I've checked the "Part of a Compilation" box when appropriate, and made sure the "Sort Album Artist" field is correct.

I am getting numerous duplicates of tracks downloaded to my iPhone. (about 10%)
These tracks are not duplicated in iTunes, and interestingly it is often the first track of an album that is repeated.
Though sometimes it is the whole album. Also many albums' artwork does not download. Both the iPhone and iTunes are up to date
I recently had a big HD snafu the result of which left me with 95,000 tunes, 53,000 of which should be there...the rest are duplicates. I've tried Dupin but it's not working...I think the job is just too big. get the dupes identified and removed?Â

I could use some advice/help, because I am at my wit's end and pulling my hair out over duplicates in iTunes.
Situation: may partner and I used/use separate PCs and have separate iTunes accounts. When his laptop died and we bought a new one (having backed up his data), I took the opportunity to consolidate all our music into one folder on an external drive. But iTunes is giving me fits. I am ending up with thousands of duplicates.
I tried going through the Show Duplicates function and slowly eliminating all of them, and somehow managed to eliminate all the files.
So - what's the best way to fix this? Can I start from scratch with iTunes? Previous uninstalls haven't fixed this issue on my old computer. Should I go into the music folder on the external drive and manage the songs that way before importing into iTunes? Can I erase my whole library and just re-import (having not erased the files, just from the library in iTunes)?
I'm a big fan of the Apple products I've bought (3 iPods now) but this is frustrating me to no end. Any advice would be welcome!
I'm running iTunes 9.0.3.15.

I have some songs in WMA format on a CD, but it's not an audio CD. In older versions of iTunes, you could import and convert. In iTunes 8 there is no longer the option, and when I try the Add to Library feature, nothing happens?

It is in MP3 format. When I added it to library it appears in my "music" library, not the podcast directory.
I have even placed the file into the folder containing the podcasts downloaded from itunes and changed the "genre" setting to podcast but it will not appear in that list.
