Am I the only one having this bug? I have a 2009 24" iMac Radeon 4850 and after installing the 10.5.8 combo every time the machine boots the brightness is set to maximum.
I tried zapping the PRAM and that didn't help.
The other problem I noticed is that my startup network shares, even though checked to "hide" pop up finder windows at boot time. It never did this before (even without hide being checked).
I have the 21" iMac and need to brighten the screen. How do I do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought this c2d macbook pro 15'' in early 2007. Today I installed windows 7 on it (bootcamp 2.1). Everything worked perfect except the screen brightness control. The strongest level is very bright (same as the one in Mac), but the second level is very dim. I remember having this problem back in 2007 when I installed winxp on my mac. Looks like the problem still exists. Anyone here knows how to fix it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have dual ACD's. How do I make it so that both screens have the same brightness? If I adjust the brightness in the display settings it adjusts the main screen, but then not the other one. How do I make them the same?
After every reboot, the brightness of my iMac's screen changes to 100% brightness, which is slightly annoying. Does anyone know why this happens? By the way, I'd say it does it since 10.5.8.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Rev A (Aug 2007) alum iMac (20") and ever since I installed 10.5.8, the screen has been set on full brightness on every startup. I'm currently running Snow Leopard and the problem persists. I erased and installed during the procedure so I don't think it can really be a corrupted system file or something.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
All of a sudden, every time I reboot, my screen's brightness is all the way up. So, I go to 'Preferences' and bring it down to only happen again the next time I reboot. Not a terrible problem, I hope, but not sure why the settings of this doesn't remain as I left it last. Perhaps I have picked up something OR I have a fault which could get worse?Anyone seen anything like this?

I went to Best Buy yesterday and they just got the new imacs in and had on display side by side. The 21.5 display was not as bright and vibrant as the 27 display. The apple and best buy guys could not tell me why the difference. The settings were checked and found to be the same for both machines. I was going to get the 21.5 but now not so sure. I definitely like the brighter 27 better. Is this normal? Why is the 27 brighter? Has anyone else noticed the difference?

I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second).The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function.It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2007 aluminium imac running Snow Leopard. It needed to have a disk drive replacement recently under applecare. Since I got it back I have noticed a marked dimness in screen brightness starting about halfway down the screen, most noticeable against a window with a white background. It is pristine white at the top of the window but from about halfway begins to get dimmer. Its a bit like being in sunlight and the coming into shadow, or finding mist creeping into the picture.
I have tried recalibrating it but it makes no difference. It might have been there before the repair but if it was I didn't notice it or else I grew used to it but now I find it quite distracting and it does make text a little harder to read as I'm getting on in years and my sight needs all the light it can get. Is it normal or is it a sign of problems beginning to manifest themselves with the display? I wouldn't like to ignore it & find myself out of applecare cover when it does.
So I have noticed a few times already, that the screen on my white macbook flickers to change the brightness level. It can do this while the computer is plugged in and charging, or if it's off the charger. It is definitely noticeable as it causes me to just watch what the screen is doing.

I cant adjust the brightness and sound anymore by pressing F1 and F2 etc. What could be wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel Mac Mini that I use with a Viewsonic DVI LCD. My problem is that the gray boot screen doesn't ever appear. The computer starts up, but the display doesn't come on until I unplug the monitor and plug it back into the mini, then it comes on and I see the login window. Anyone have any tips for me? I've tried the cmd-opt-p-r, and resetting it via plugging in the power while holding the power button, but to no avail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Snowleopard on a 24" white imac bought in 2007. My system has been somewhat temperamental for a few weeks, crashing out on me when waking up and generating random artifacts onscreen during use. I noticed also that the hardrive recently renamed itself as "EMI Boot" when booting using the option key (although it worked fine). Now, when booting, the apple logo appears, followed by the spinning wheel and a blank gray screen. Then nothing. The same thing happens when I try to boot using a mirrored backup drive or a separate bootable drive with a different version of OSX. The imac drive will, however, launch using a MBP in terminal mode without problem. I have run Diskwarrior and fsck on the drive. No difference. I've tested the RAM using memtest in single user mode. RAM seems OK. I dont have the original installation disks, so cannot run the diagnostics.

(at least is not like my previous MBP or the videos that I have seen on youtube) At the black screen stage, I can see some boot up information, etc, It is fast so I am not able to read it all. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Imac Harddrive from a standard 320 GB to a 1.5 TB Segate Barracuda 7200 Rpm 3GBS. Previously I had a boot camp partition for windows 7 ultimate. When I put in the new harddrive I decided to start fresh and do clean installs. Now when I try and install Windows 7 it goes fine until the last restart (4 total including initial restart). Then it just gets stuck at the screen where it says "Push any Key to Boot from CD or DVD". It will stay like that for a few seconds then the disk will stop spinning. So my question is now what do I do? I have to have windows for work purposes and this is driving me insane.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI've googled this and looked here, and while there are many similar stories none are exactly the same as mine so I thought I'd post here. So, I was going to install the Windows 7 RC on a 2006 iMac intel Core Duo, which has a dead optical drive, so I was planning on using an external like I do for everything on this machine. After the restart to install Windows, I got a folder with a question mark, and figured that the iMac couldn't do the installation from an external drive but since it was looking for a disk got confused. I then hit the power button thinking that I'd just boot back into OS X until I found a solution, but when I hit the power again I got not even an inquisitive folder. Just a grey screen. I tried key combinations but nothing even seemed to get recognized. For example, the PRAM re-set combination did not get to a second chime, just the one chime and the grey screen. Command C did make the external drive spin (with an OS X disk in it) but nothing other then that. And Command D with the original install disk in did spin as well, but I got no further then that chime and grey screen I got every time. I don't expect miracles of course, and I want to know how to fix this. This machine is out of warrantee, and if it needs an actual hardware repair I'd rather find out what it needs and do it myself then have someone else do it. I know I can, and it is cheaper that way. And of course if there is a simple software fix I'd much prefer that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have one of the old blue PowerMac G3 computers, and I kept getting a kernel panic, so I reset the RAM and now when I start up the computer, it stops at the apple screen without even spinning. I've tried booting it in single user mode, and for some reason it doesn't make a difference what keys I hit while turning on the computer. It still boots to the apple screen.

My imac will not boot past the blue screen. It crashed whilst loading a new application which I downloaded from the mac website, had to force a shutdown as it wasn't responding, and now it will not boot no matter what I try. I have searched for answers on the forums but my mac will not respond to any keyboard commands even with the installation dvd inserted. I don't get the startup chime anymore either.
