IMac :: Video Files Backup To External HD With Win7 And OS X?

I installed Win 7 with Bootcamp on my iMac. All went fine but I had this issue of having video files on either operating system, Win 7 and Mac OS X. Backing up my data to my external HDD was tricky and I had to use FAT32, to be readable and writable from both OS X and Win7. But most of my videos are >2GBs, so FAT32 was an issue, and NTFS was out of the question. Till I came across PARAGON NTFS software, which allows Mac OS X to read and write on NTFS drives, but now I have an issue

Going to the Start Up Disk...
Win 7 on BootCamp has Disappeared...
To restart to BootCamp from OS X, I have to do it manually by holding down the Option Key.

Basically I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro (unibody) and a USB external hard drive (500GB) I want to wirelessly back up my Macbook Pro and the iMac with the hard drive connected to the iMac. A sort of time capsule concept. But i don't have an airport base station to make this process easier I only have a wanadoo livebox.

My iMac (Model 4,1 operating 10.6.4) drive has made some funny noises recently when inserting disks. I want to back up Pages documents to DVD's so that I can take them to a print shop if needed later. I have an Iomega back up hard drive but I really want an external burner. I used to have a Tower years ago and loved the front loading slot (great for burning Word, Excel, Pages and PDF files to DVD's}. While I have the Iomga back up drive, that will not help if my computer sighs it's last breath & I need to access some of the back up files.

I was thinking of getting an external hard drive (or a raid 1 setup) for backup. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to do this: Have Time Machine back up the entire system on to the drive (or raid), and also add files to it from a different computer that wouldn't interfere with the stuff that's already on there from Time Machine. Would this be ok, or would the drive only be able to do one or the other?

I've got a WD 500 GB external hard drive that has worked perfectly for about a year. I don't use time machine or any other backup software. I prefer to organize it myself and backup files individually.
Suddenly, today, it's freaking out at me. I've got several folders in it that I copy things too. One of them being Music. I was copying a few gigs of new music into that folder, but when it finished copying I couldn't access any of the other files.
It's like I'm stuck in the sub menu where I can just see the music I have on the drive and nothing else. The rest of the files are there somewhere because I only have about 50gbs of music and it says that 300gbs of space are being used, but I can't see them and i've tried a bunch of different things to get them to show up.

How would I go about backing-up the disk if the image doesn't appear under devices? I went to the "Restore" tab/button, but I can not choose the hard drive in the first field. I could have sworn my hard drive was formatted for Mac, but I may have formatted it back to FAT32. I know the disk still functions because when it is powered on, it cycles with/without being connected to my MacPro, but after that, it will only cycle if connected (confirming connection). It does run again when I connect the firewire cable. I want to copy/clone my current HDD onto another (both 500GB, but a different make/model). Usually a OSX re-install and TM restore does the trick, but this one has the OSX HFS+ and a smaller NTFS Win7 partition. I assume cloning will still let both OSes run, or is this just a bag of hurt and I need to reinstall everything...They're both in a Mid 2010 MBP (with optibay).

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with two displays and an NVIDIA 8800 card. I was booted into Windows 7 using bootcamp, the machine froze during video playback, hard rebooted. Blue Screened in Windows, went to restart into OS 10.5.7 and I get the Apple logo and spinning gear, it then flashes briefly and goes to a grey screen. The second monitor never engages. The machine is fully booted as I can connect to it with my laptop through filesharing. I've tried PRAM/SMC reset, removing all the RAM/all external devices, pretty much everything. I've even tried replacing the video card and switching PCI slots, with the same issue still occurring.

I have a new iMac quad core i7 and am wondering how to connect my WD external hard drive via the firewire 800 port AND connect my hd video camera for uploading footage via the same port.
I came across a couple option but not sure how they will work.
1.) can I connect to this iMac via Gigabit Ethernet to my external hard drive?
2.) Should I get a powered firewire hub?
3.) should I find someone to install an eSata connection on my new iMac.

Can anyone suggest which would be my best option for external backup? Would a RAID setup be good? I have two exactly the same hard drives laying around collecting dust, and would like to put them to use for an iMac. Could someone recommend a good external enclosure for these two? Which would be better - FireWire or USB2.0? I'm also interested in mirroring since I'd store important data on them, and want both drives to have a copy of each. Is there a disadvantage to that in terms of system's performance?

I was looking for an external hard drive to backup my photos/music collection. I was hoping to stick with Western Digital in 1TB capacity.
Do I have to buy one of their hard drives that says specifically on the box "For MAC" or can I buy any Western Digital Hard Drive.
My concern is that it won't work with Time Machine.

I just got a new MacBook Pro for graduation. I've decided to use my iMac as an external display and use my Macbook Pro as my main computer. My iMac has about 1TB of space while my MacBook has about 500 GB. Since I'll be using my iMac primarily as a external display I was thinking about also using it as an external harddrive so I can backup my data from my Macbook via Time Machine.Is this ok to do? Does anyone advised that I don't? I just want to make sure I don't screw up anything before doing so. BTW I also have a WD external harddrive connected to my iMac.

I've recently starting having problems with my external HD that I use for my Time Machine backups. I'm not able to repair the drive using Disk Elements, so I want to copy some of my backups stored therein onto my Mac HD before I try reformatting the external HD. However, I get the error message "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup" when I try dragging the backup folders onto my desktop. Is there any way to salvage the backups before I try reformatting?

My iMac (Intel) is having serious problems playing saved video files, especially from the Elgato EyeTV hybrid (file extension .eyetv). Everything played fine for about 1.5 years, then suddenly the iMac just started pinwheeling intermittently and stopping the video every few seconds. It was like watching Youtube on dial-up. I tried closing programs, stopping Time Machine, restarting, reinstalling EyeTV... but nothing fixed it, it only got worse and actually started freezing the whole machine and causing incredibly slow and scary restarts with lots of blue screens. At this point I actually re-formatted the whole darn computer and the files played OK for maybe a day or two, then just started pinwheeling the .eyetv files again, although movies on my hard drive play ok now as far as I know. Youtube and other streaming has always been fine. Watching live-feed TV on the EyeTV has never been a problem either. Why can't I watch my recorded files?

I'm experiencing external video banding/noise on a 2006 iMac (2GHz, Core Duo, 20" screen) when using Apple's video adapter (RGB to RCA/S-Video); I use it to connect my iMac's video output to my TV.
The noise is basically diagonal lines running top to bottom/left to right across the TV screen. They are faint and are more like ripples in the screen. It almost seems as though it's not grounded correctly.
I noticed this issue when I first got the computer; I switched the adapter back and forth between my iBook and the iMac and the noise was only evident on the iMac's output. I called Apple and they refused to deal with it, suggesting it was due to the video cable length (20 feet) even though the iBook was fine.

I recently purchased a new iMac desk top and I'm trying to figure out how to transfer a video file from a folder to an external hard drive. When I try and drag it, when I release it to drive it goes back to original file. I'll learn this thing sooner or later.

I am clearing out my old IMac 10.4 & trying to make sure I am not losing precious memories but I cant seem to find certain home movies without hitting a problem. Some files end in .MOD or .MOI & comes up as file could not be opened & says its "not a movie file". I cannot see the same titles elsewhere but maybe in different formats which would play, I did notice the first time I uploaded them from my old JVC hard disc camcorder, that a named clip would appear it 2/3 different formats but since that was my first time dealing with movie files, I didn't understand it. Now I cannot see where the other different formats are. I have searched but they are all that will come up. There is even one or two which are .DV but again says could not be opened but this time also says "the end of the file was reached".

I installed Windows 7 with my snow leopard bootcamp on my MBP yesterday and all seems to be running fine and dandy except when Im in windows, I plug in my external hard drive which is formatted to a mac and it makes the noise to show its been plugged in but nothing shows up. I have installed MacDrive on there so I can read HFS formatted disks but the drive just doesnt appear anywhere. I have plugged the same drive into my dell laptop with windows 7 and it appears on there so its not the drive (plus it shows up fine on the mac under SL anyway).

I'm running Win7 x64 RTM, but I had this problem back when I had Vista too. Macdrive reads and writes to my Mac partition just fine, but for some reason I can't run .exe files that are stored there. Windows gives me some crap about 'windows cannot access *file path here*'. Back when I used XP this wasn't a problem, but for some reason Vista and 7 don't want to run .exe's on my mac partition. For now I've been forced to copy the .exe's from their storage on my Mac drive and paste them to my Windows partition before being able to run them.

I installed another hard drive. Went to set up Windows 7 through boot camp. Partitioned the new drive (split the partition evenly). Go to install window through the boot camp installer, no problems at the beginning. It loads all the file then tells me its going through a series of restarts on the computer. Well here is the problem. It keeps giving me the options of running in safe mode, safe mode via network and starting up in normal mode. Every time I start in normal mode it gives me an error saying that the computer did not shut down properly. When I try to start in any of the safe modes it tells me that the files cannot load in this mode. I have been trying to load Windows 7 32 bit.

However when I try to move any files from my iMac to the external drive, I get the following message:The item � � could not be moved because �WD My Book� cannot be modified.I have no idea what this means (I'm a relative Newbie to Mac) can anyone help me?

I have a external HD which has always worked fine under snow leopard. Since upgrading to lion I keep getting the following message The identity of the backup disk has changed since the previous backup.The disk may have been replaced or erased, or someone may be trying to trick your computer into backing up to the wrong disk. And after this the drive disappears from the desktop appearing agian only after restart. What can I do do rectify this? Delete and re-intialise the drive?
