IMac :: Use 21.5 High End Machine With Final Cut Pro?

Nov 17, 2009

I'd really love to get an i7 machine, but I simply do not have the space for such a big screen on my desk. Also, I kind of prefer having a 1920 by 1080 resolution display so as to view HD material at its native resolution without uprezzing. Drives me nuts, because I'd gladly spend $300 more for a 21.5 inch with an i5 or i7, but since I'm stuck looking at a C2D machine, I'd like to know how people who've had this CPU have found it to be for things like Final Cut and Aperture. Has anyone got any comments they can share?

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.4 Playback Quality - High Quality Is No Longer An Option

Dec 8, 2014

In FCPX 10.1.3 I was able to set in Preferences the Playback Quality to High Quality. I just purchased FCPx 10.1.4.  It has NO such High Quality Option for Playback Quality.

Now all my still clips are blurred badly.   Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

MacBook Air :: High End 2.13GHz Machine With The Solid State HD?

Jul 10, 2010

I threw in with the air. I've been a big MacBook pro and iMac user from way back, but a few days ago I finally did what I've always wanted to do, I bought an Air! The things holding me back were price and the lack of updates from Apple. But you know what? After using this machine for three days I can honestly say it is the best laptop I have ever used. I don't even know why I ever used a pro. I got the high end 2.13GHz machine with the solid state HD. So quiet (silent). So light. Amazing machine and I can never go back to using a pro. Can't wait to see what Apple have in line for the Air in the future too! The coolest thing though is that its not quite mainstream. Not like the Pro anyway. I get looks! Oh yeah, us Air users are legit.

IMac :: 27" I7 Imac High Pitch Noise

Sep 8, 2010

I have a new 27" I7 that appears to have the high pitch sound issue if the brightness is not at max or lowest. How "common" is this issue?

I do not need the perfect iMac (I have some gray banding and the 1TB HD grumbling and it is not a big issue to me) I just wanted to see if this high pitch noise is considered a defect and needs to be fixed/replaced or it is more common than not with the iMac.

PowerPC :: Turns Itself Off - Emits High Pitch Squeal From Machine While Holding Button

Sep 28, 2009

When I turn it on it runs fine for sometimes about a minute (sometimes less) before it just turns itself off! After it turns itself off I'll hit the power button and it emits a high pitch squeal from the machine whilst holding the button. If I then remove the battery from the Machine depending on how long I leave the battery out and put it back in, it will then power up for a short amount of time. Sometimes I can get it to the desktop and open System Profiler for example, other times it gets as far as the Apple grey screen. I've ordered a power adaptor as I didn't get one with the machine but as far as the battery indicator goes, it's on 96% and all four green lights are on the battery indicator on the base. Has anyone heard of any problems like this before?I believe it's running a 500mhz processor and has 512mb of Ram.

I am asking this because I came across this video saying if I used this method, I would be "screwed" [URL]. Is the method I used safe, or did it some how mess up my TM or leave left over data?

If I replaced the fan would this solve the problem or could it be the power supply?

IMac :: Optical Drive And CPU Fan High Speed On Little Usage

Sep 23, 2010

I bought one of the new-gen iMacs last month--my first Mac! My computer will often start making a low-droning noise, and it sounds like a fan. I have iStat, and usually during this time it will say that my Optical Drive and CPU Fan are both running at around 4000rpm. This happens when there is very little CPU usage too. It's happening right now, and I only have firefox running.

IMac :: Screen Making High Pitched Noise

Oct 24, 2009

I just bought and received a new 21.5'' iMac and love it but the screen is making a high pitched noise, similar to a dog whistle. It's that sound that isn't loud but pierces through your brain. And the brighter the backlight is, the louder is gets. I love this machine but I don't think it should be doing this and it bothers the heck out of me. I called Apple and all they said was to bring it to the Genius Bar.

IMac :: Temperature And Fan Speeds High - Need Newer Upgrades?

Feb 8, 2010

I just recently bought an imac computer and my two friends who know a lot about apple computers thought that the fans and temperature might be a little high. The cpu fan at idle runs at just under 1200 rpm's, the harddrive fan runs at 1100 rpm's and the optical drive fan runs at 1000 rpm's. The temperature itself 40-44C. The other imac that they know of is a year old, so we weren't sure if there were newer upgrades that might be making the difference between our speeds and temperature compared to that one.

Mac :: High End 27" 2.8 GHz I7 IMac - Is The 2TB Hard Drive Upgrade Worth It

Oct 21, 2009

I'm seriously considering ordering one of the brand new 27" iMac's, with the 2.8 GHz i7 Processor and 8GB (4x2GB) of RAM. The only thing I'm having trouble deciding about is getting either the standard 1TB Hard Drive or the 2TB Hard Drive for a little over $200. Since the Hard Drive can't exactly be replaced easily, I'm wondering if it would be better to invest in the 2TB upgrade.

OS X :: IMac G5 Speakers Don't Seem To Be Able To Handle High Pitched Sound In A Movie?

May 20, 2010

I have a 24" aluminum iMac G5. I have never had a problem with sound before, and feel like this problem is isolated to a certain DVD but the DVD works on EVERY other player I own. Everything pretty much plays DVDs, so that's many!

So here's my problem: There's parts of this movie that have very high pitched sounds, like electronic sounds that are just sound effects in the movie. Whenever I get to those parts in this movie (maybe even other movies for all I know, I don't play many) and the sound goes quiet, like the speakers can't handle that high pitched sound.

I feel there must be something I can do about it, right? I just use the regular default DVD player application that pops up when I put a DVD in. I tried playing with that equalizer but nothing changed.

IMac :: High Pitched Noise Heard On Adjusting Brightness

Jul 29, 2010

Just got my new i7 in the mail today after waiting for the refresh for 5 months and it has that stupid high pitched noise that you get when you adjust the brightness. I returned four of these things at the beginning of the year (2 HD failures, 1 power source failure, 1 DOA), one that had the hd failure also had this same high pitched noise.

I love these computers (minus the complete lack of quality control), so I don't want to switch back to PC, but I am at my wits end here. Apple already gave me $150 off this computer for me trouble, but I just don't know if its worth the hassle anymore. I am returning it for sure, but would you ask for more compensation, maybe a ram upgrade or something? I don't like to be the guy who asks for free crap, but the way I see it, they can give me another hundred $, or I can go back to pc and they lose a customer for life.

IMac :: Apple I5 And I7 27" IMacs Do NOT Support High Speed Ethernet?

Feb 28, 2010

I found this article below when searching on iMac i7 info.We took delivery of the brand spankin' new 27" i7 iMac last week and connected it immediately to our Final Share SAN in about 5 minutes for video editing. Quick tests showed the SAN was connected and working fine. Then today I started really editing on it and I'm dropping frames every 10 to 30 seconds. Now it appears the ethernet controller that is in the new Mac cannot support the speeds necessary to edit video via the SAN. Our 2 year old iMacs can, but the brand spanking new, most powerful iMac cannot.I'm at a loss as to how Apple can improve every aspect of this machine, including the absolutely stunning 27" LED backlit display, but then cut back on something as simple as an Ethernet Controller that should be designed to work with today's equipment running high speed internet instead of stepping backwards to the speed of older model PowerMac machines.

IMac :: Send Stereo High Quality Audio Over Bluetooth To Some Sort Of Receiver?

Feb 3, 2009

A couple of years ago when I got a tv for my room, my dad built a rack of shelves into the wall, one for my tv, one for my stereo and one for random stuff. It's always been nice, but restricting. I like to move my room around, and My desk is forced to stay right next to that rack to transmit audio to my receiver via a hard wire. Seeing as my iMac has bluetooth built in, I was wondering if it is at all possible to send stereo high quality audio over bluetooth to some sort of receiver that would feed into two RCA plugs... Now, I'm not talking audiophile quality, this is just a $400 sony rig, no crown audio here, but I dont want it to sound like those old 900mhz wireless headphones with all the interference. Is this at all possible? Or am I doomed to either staying put, or running 5' of cable under my carpet?

IMac :: High-pitched Frequency With External Speakers / Connected Via Firewire Audio Interface

Apr 14, 2004

I hope I'm not double posting. Have any of the other new iMac owners experienced weird frequencies coming from external speakers that are connected to their iMacs?

For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!

IMac :: How Well Will The New 3.06 Run Final Cut Pro

Mar 4, 2009

How well will the new 24" 3.06 with a GT 130 run Final Cut Pro when dealing with HD footage?

If I remember correctly, FCP doesn't pull much resources from the gfx card, but that's just my memory, not factual knowledge that i'm pulling from. Currently, when working in FCP I have been working with Mac Pro's, but would like to have a Mac of my own that way I can get some work done when i'm at my house as well.

I work mostly with 1080i footage and most of my projects end up being anywhere from 30 seconds to about 45 minutes long.

I know that FCP asks for you to have 2 gb for HD and SD footage, then 4gb ram for uncompressed HD footage... the 3.06 comes with 4 gb, so i would think that to be a set deal... i'm just still kind of in a rut while making this decision.

Does anyone currently have a iMac (new or old) and do any type of video renders that can get to be lengthy? If so, how well does the iMac hold up?

IMac :: Final Consensus On The HDD Noise?

Jan 18, 2010

Well I have been following the HDD noise threads for awhile now, (since I to have a "hungry iMac") and was wondering what the final word was on the issue?

How did you guys get the issue resolved? Return and replace? HDD replacement at authorized repair location? Give up? Did it even get resolved?

So from what I can read, it seems the Seagate drive is the hungry one? Is the Western Digital any better? Or is the consensus that the 2TB one is better?

I personally don't think there is anything wrong (as in malfunctioning) with my machine...its just the rumbling noise is kinda irritating. I know my case is clear cut in my mind too...cause even before I read this forum, the first few times I heard mine I actually thought it was MY stomach growling. Then I came and read the threads and saw what was going on.

So, can it be fixed? For me to go through the hassle, I need to know that something other than simple exchange can be done to remedy...cause I personally think that will not do anything. I would be willing to bet and exchange (all things being equal) would do the same thing.
