I am having trouble with crashes. It seems to be finder. I have Lion 10.7.4 I have looked on the net for answers and they all say to delete the finder prefs. I don't see any in library/preferences? Where are they? Sometimes when in either photoshop or Indesign and I try to save the folder is blank, when I know there are files in it.

I was tooling around in CandyBar earlier today and after trying to restore my dock icons to defaults, my dock never returned after the Dock restart "killall Dock". After I restart the computer entirely to resolve the problem, I tried clicked on the Applications folder/section of my Finder only to get the spinning beach ball and the 'not responding' error from there out.
this happens after every restart. I've tried repairing the permissions and everything else to no avail. I don't have my Leopard install discs here with me (out of town for a couple days) so if there is a fix without 'archive and install' that's preferred.
i managed to get the dock back by deleting the .plist for it and tried the same for finder, didn't work.
the finder keeps giving me the beachball, same as when a programme does not respond. I have to switch off by holding down the on off button and reboot.

It takes me multiple tries to get it to work. It literally took me 10 minutes this time! It started this morning, so I rebooted, and it happened again. I rebooted just now to see how it was and the same thing happened. I'm running 10.6.1. What's going on? It's quite frustrating.

I've got a problem with my Mac - it's a 2.1ghz Macbook (not the new type, the polycarb one) running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and all of the latest updates. Well, apart from the newest iTunes version as for some reason it won't let me install that...anyway.
Whenever I open a folder with a large number of JPGs in it (about 300, 700mbs worth) in Finder, it only loads that screen of thumbnails. Scrolling up and down will crash Finder for about 3 minutes until those thumbnails load. Trying to Quick Look any of those images will crash Finder completely and bring the whole machine to a standstill with the spinning pinwheel - in the end, it will quit with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) message.
This has only started happening recently. At first I thought it was a problem with Finder, but if it's causing other apps to crash then it's something else...
Opening any of the images in that folder with an app such as Xee will cause that app to crash with the same message.
I've done these things so far:
- Delete preference files
- Clear all DSTOREs from the boot volume
- Reset SMC
Looking at the problems other people have had, it points toward possible bad RAM although the BAD ACCESS message seems to be fairly generic.
I've had a Mac for about a year now and I can't count how many problems I've had like this. Most of them have been solved by Google-ing the symptoms, but I'm at a dead end with this. The last Software Update prevented the machine from booting past the loading screen so I've already had to reinstall once. In the two years before I had my Dell with XP, I never had any problems, however small...and I've had to hard power down this thing due to software crashes more times than the Dell. If these problems are part of Mac ownership, it's a shame as I really like it, but I'm going back to XP otherwise.
I currently have about 8 iMacs in our lab on OS X 10.5.8 with all of their updates. When attempted to reach an SMB share on a Windows 2008 server by way of smb://10.x.x.x each mac starts to error. It reaches the server and asks for their login, but after the correct info is inputted the mac starts to act up. The apple menu disappears and so does every icon on the desktop. The finder navigator becomes inaccessible and you aren't really able to do anything until the computer is forced to shut down by holding down the power button. I turned on Activity Monitor and then tried to connect to a server and saw that the processes Finder and ReportCrash both appear and then disappear about every 15 seconds or less. Over and over again with no popup reporting the crash to the user.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy OS is Leopard 10.5.0. I updated my quicktime to 7.4.5, then when i rebooted, finder and spolight arent opening and crashing. Then, with appcleaner, i uinstalled QuickTime, but the problem continued. So i deleted the QTKit.framework, the console pointed it by the center of the error, so i did it. I also deleted the plists or something like that, reseted the pram and nothing, repaired permissions, verified disks and nothing!! I tryed to install the combo updater 10.5.2, but for some reason, while in the 'choose drive' part, the program freezes.I also tryed to install via terminal, but i got this:

Last night all my desktop icons just disappeared all of a sudden, I restarted my laptop and they came back but when I try to click and drag anything on my desktop or copy something between finder windows, they just disappear again and Finder crashes. I downloaded the newest update and installed it, which didn't fix the problem so I found a similar problem on another forum and tried doing what they recommended (which was to delete the Cache folder and some files from the library and restart the computer) After I restarted, finder started crashing every 2-3 seconds and giving me a message saying that Finder quit unexpectadly while trying to restore it's windows.Â

All three of my browsers (Opera 10.10, Firefox 3.5.6, Safari 4.0.4) crash repeatedly when accessing www.nytimes.com (most common site). I am running OSX 10.5.8 on an iMAC G4 with 768MB RAM. I ran Onyx and repaired the permissions but to no avail. Other websites have failed but the nytimes site causes instantaneous failure.

Even if I boot it up and let it run, it will eventually crash, but at random times. If I re-boot right after it crashes, it crashes again, but if I wait, it doesn't.

I've got a 2005 iMac G5 PowerPC 1.8GHz running Leopard. It's been running absolutely fine since I had it (upgraded to Leopard for at least 18 months) but randomly a week or two ago it's started crashing.
Sometimes two or three times in a row, then it's been 2-3 days without problem.
The display starts flickering, usually the mouse pointer can still be moved but after 10-20 seconds or so it will just crash and I have to restart by holding the power button down.
There's nothing in the crash log. I've run the hardware test and checked the memory and everything is looking fine. I've completely reinstalled Leopard and also cleaned out the fan in case it was overheating that was causing this.
For the last couple of weeks, while using various programs (Firefox, Word for Mac, etc) my computer (or the individual program) has crashed. Also, After sleep, the G5 would not awake even if I pressed the power button. I changed the Energy Saving schedule to 15 minutes for both settings. Before it was an hour. We had to actually shut of the power supply and turn it on again. Then it started up.

My imac is 10.4 tiger which over the years is now updated to version 10.5.8. It regularly crashes and is getting worse - at least twice a day then i have to turn it off with the power button. When i go to reboot a folder with a question mark appears on the screen. I usually then have to turn it back off and wait several hours for the mac to reboot again...Â

For some reason, both Safari and FoxFire are crashing on my IMac. I am using the smaller EMac keyboard on that machine and last night, in an attempt to get the DVD drive open some of the F# buttons were pushed. This resulted in a hard boot from the power switch. Now both browsers blow up as soon as you try to do anything with them. I verified and repaired permission both from the HD and from the system disk and verified and repaired the disk as well but the problem still exists. I also unplugged and rebooted the ethernet router, but none of these steps have made any difference. What can I do now to fix teh situation?

I'm having a problem with my new intel iMac, 2.8GHz. Whenever I play games in XP through Boot Camp, especially Sim City 4, my mac crashes with the audio looping over and over. I have to hold the power button to restart my mac. I've been searching for solutions, but haven't found any definitive answers. I recently updated the Realtek Audio drivers, but that didn't help. Could there be heat issues when playing games on the windows side that causes this?

I've reset Safari several times, and downloaded Safari 4 in order to uninstall and reinstall a new Safari 3. Safari version is 3.2.1. I've reset pram, restarted, and verified permissions several times over. Crashes happen almost exclusively when multiple windows are open. Other than that, I really am not sure of a pattern. Also, the restore tabs from last browsing session rare restores everything. I guess it's a buggy feature.

I did a quick search and it seems like a lot of people are having this issue and there's no solution for it. I was doing something very important and this has been pissing me off. If I don't find a fix I'm going to return this POS as the only web browser I like is Firefox. It's rarely ever given me any problems on windows based computers.

I was surfing Camino, when I went to go to IE for Mac (to check my Gmail, because Camino crashes when I go to Gmail) and then the same website I typed in on IE [URL] showed up in Camino. Of course, Camino crashed. Then, Camino started itself back up again, automatically surfed to [URL], and crashed again. Then Camino started up again...(and so on)
So I chose to force shut down the computer via the power button (which was probably a bad choice). When I got back on, I tried starting Camino. It crashed almost as soon as I clicked on it. I tried again...same thing. I soon came to realize that everything to do with the internet (Camino, Safari, IE, AIM) crashes the same way (almost as soon as you click on it). You ask how it crashed? Just the normal "This application unexpectedly quit" type.
Got myself a 27" iMac i7 which was delivered today.
Been playing with it all day in OSX and initially installed Win7 but I the display driver keep crashing and I was getting artifacts on screen then the message saying that it had recovered successfully.
Having read that Win7 was not fully supported I assumed that this was the problem so installed Vista, but got the same problem.
Screen stalled, then goes blank for a second and then the error message in the task bar.
I have just ran all the MS updates and also installed the latest GFX driver from ATI to see if that makes a difference.
I have also just ran 3dmark06 and that ran OK but I was expecting the fans to kick in at some point
Recently my 2-year old iMac (20inch (2Ghz, 320GB, 4GB RAM, OSX Leopard) has been crashing every day. The way to temporally "fix" the kernel panic is to restart the machine and boot into the instal disc, and run the disk utility (repair permissions, then repair disk). I honesty don't know what to do to stop the crashing (other than runing disk utility every day). This is never happened before now.
I'm on a Mac OS X, version 10.6.3. Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm a graphic designer so I always have Photoshop CS4 & InDesign CS4 running simultaneously 8 hours a day. (Firefox 3.6.3 is also running). Never had a problem until recently - the screen would suddenly turn WHITE, or BLUE w/ VERTICAL STRIPES. Then I have to reboot.
I had 3 crashes today. I did notice when I was scrolling w/ my (sorta old & ghetto Kensington mouse) that it froze the iMac twice. IS THERE A PATCH, OR SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THIS? Anyone else having similar crashes?

I have a 10.4 iMac. Recently when using it the screen starts to pixelate with large random squares and effectively makes the computer useless. Either that or I get moving multicoloured flashing squares (very psychodelic)Also on booting up the grey screen with the apple logo has dark grey sqaures and then when it goes to the blue screen has a series of smaller squares top and bootom. The booting up stops at this point.
I have ran the disk doctor, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
My iMAC running latest Lion OS is crashing or freezes permanently. Several reboots are necessary a day. I Never had problem with Snow Leopard. Checked hardware with diagnostic disc, all OK, so I wanted to re-install Lion from scratch while keeping my data. How shall I proceed? Back-up available via time machine.
