Started computer this morning and "Contact Database" is empty. Noticed iCloud box became "Unchecked" on Macbook Pro. Contacts still reside on iPad and iPhone via iCloud. If I check "Contacts" box on Macbook, will contacts be downloaded from iCloud or will MacBook Pro upload an empty database to the iCloud and erase all?
Ok, I know how to set up contacts and create groups. I also know how to add contacts to group(s). Now is it possible to assign groups to a contact instead? Like Google (Gmail) does, you pull up the contact and tick-off the groups that you want this contact to be in.Â
Before you ask "but why would you wanna do that." Well, quite simple, I organize my contacts by regions (countries) and many of my contacts are seemingly on the move and all over the maps. With the iCloud, I'd have to create/edit (or in my current situation, import) contacts first and then move into groups by dragging one by one (yes, i know shift-click.)
Exporting a .vcf file from Outlook, I'm unable to import a single contact into iCloud as it says it is invalid. The file is only 2KB. I only have a few contacts in iCloud.
I have a contact for my mom which used to be her first name and last name which I later changed to just "Mom" in the first name box after getting an iPhone. At the same time I started syncing with MobileMe and have been having this problem for about 2 years. Every time I send her an email it changes her name from just Mom to Mom and then adds her last name back into the last name field.
I have migrated over to the iCloud and it's not June 30 yet anyway, so I don't understand why I am getting this message. I can access my email at url... You are my "system administrator" in this case..
I used to be able to use my calendar in icloud and it was synced with the ical on my computer and my iphone. All of a sudden there is no info on icloud. I really prefer the cloud as it functions so much faster than the one on my computer. I figured out how to export my calendar from ical but how do I import it into the cloud? And why did this happen in the first place?
I have lately gotten notifications that my i-cloud account have been used logging in on a browser. Since I could not truly verify that this was me doing so I did check for updating my password. Two things happened.
1) The e-mail returned to me from i-cloud to reset was empty ? (Is there currently a system problem?
2) I then tried to go through security questions process - but i-cloud tells me my birthdate and year is invalid.
This whole issue makes me insecure about the integrity of my i-cloud account or whether there are system problems creating this at this time?
I created several calendars on my MacBook and placed them on iCloud. I can view the events on my iPad and MacBook, but when I logged onto icloud, that calendar is empty for June and July with only one event for August. Do I have to add these calendars again to the iCloud??
I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?Â

I moved a bunch of files to the trash can after installing Snow Leopard, mainly backup files from OmniFocus.
I clicked Secure Empty Trash and over 500,000 items began deleting. These 500,000+ items deleted at the rate of 2-3 items a second. This would total 138 hours equaling over 5 days to Secure Empty the trash.
This is just ridiculous in my option so I just did the "Empty Trash" feature, showing me only 350 items, which deleted quickly in under 5 minutes...
So far I know with Secure Empty Trash that the trash is securely layered with 0's & 1's....but wonder what happens with just "Empty Trash?"
How easily accessible is it for someone to retrieve something that i've deleted?
I've noticed that when I "Secure Empty Trash" though it takes longer, I usually regain a lot of gigabytes back. Currently, as of this post i'm "secure emptying trash" and i've regained about 25GB's which sounds about right considering there was about that much worth of video recordings from my video camera I no longer needed.
In the past when I've just "deleted trash" i've seen different results. If I have say 10GB's in the trash and I just "empty trash" then i'll maybe gain back like a GB or 2. ...if anything.
So, my concern is...say currently with the 25GB amount of trash I have, If I decided to just "empty trash", I obviously would not have gained back all the 25GB's..., perhaps just a few, guessing something like 5GB.
Well, does that mean that those GB's that are emptied in the trash (not securely) are just lost forever?
..Or will I regain those GB's the next time around (say weeks later) I securely empty the trash with whatever happens to be in there (all new stuff in the trash)?
Am I making sense?
Kinda confusing to me cause I don't understand it. But I feel it's vital for me to get this and have the most amount of gigs available on my Mac now that i'm using about 30GB's per week filming stuff and editing it on iMovie.
Can anyone tell me where the Autofill database is located? Every time I use Autofill it has my name mispelled and I want to change it. Also is there a keyboard shortcut to Autofill instead of clicking on Edit then Autofill?
if we're capable of updating it, or where the information comes from. I'd also like to know about iTunes capitalization and punctuation standards, if there's a link to that, a la Wikipedia, and genre listing. Who controls that information?Â

I am looking for a Mac program that is encrypted that can be used to store data such as passwords, personal information, business information, and other information that needs to be secure. I like Bento and just upgraded to Bento 2 but there is no password protection. I have a password to log onto my Mac but I know it's not 100% secure and I'm looking for security as high as 448 bit. A password vault type of program would be nice but I want something that has additional database features. I have done a lot of work on Google but have not been able to find anything.
I work for IT Support in a company and i've been handed a Mac that gives 9 beeps (3 short, 3 long, 3 short) which signals a system board problem. I am trying to get the user set up on a Windows laptop as we have no spare Macs for him and i am transferring the data from the Mac HDD to my laptop. The problem is, the emails on the HDD are in the database format and not the .mbox format. How do i convert it to a useable PST?
