In iTunes 11, I can not find my older backups.
Only the most recent one.Â
I make backups on my computer, not via the Cloud.Â
My Time Machine has been making the usual regular backups for a few months onto my Time Capsule. I just found that all the backups prior to about a week ago have vanished. It's not a disaster (I think) as I assume that the current backups reflect what's on my iMac (I haven't had to delete files from it yet).
Where did they go? Why did they go?
A possible connection: My TC is 500GB; my iMac 1TB. I recently put extra files for temporary use onto the iMac hard drive - Time Machine said (in effect) 'that's too much, try removing certain folders from the backup'. I excluded said folder and things seemed okay, but it would be at around the time I did that that my old backups have gone.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with the Time Machine. I bought a 500gb Time Capsule last July and it has been running perfectly until a few days agp. I noticed that all my backups were no where to be seen (when entering Time Machine on my MBP) and that it was doing a full backup.. The backup took the guts of 36 hours.
I've come home today to find that all backups are gone again and it is doing another full backup!!!Any ideas what is wrong here?
I don't know if its supposed to do this or not because I am a new time machine user. I have a HFS + Backup Drive using the GUID partition table that is used by time machine. Yesterday I had quite a few backups in my backup directory, today I come on to find that some of these backups are missing. Does it delete some backups?

I had to get a new iPhone 4 today because I dropped the old one in water. When I go to set up the new phone, I have the option to restore from my backup from about a week ago. So I did that...it restores the phone and then usually it goes to the page where you can see the contents of your iPhone and sync music and apps. I can't get past the restore "Set Up Your iPhone" page. I called Apple Support and they do not understand what I'm trying to say and keep telling me to restore my phone. I DID 5 TIMES! It won't let me go beyond that option screen.

I've run into an odd problem where iTunes (v8.0.2.20 Windows Vista) will not add, play or do anything with audio files (mp3) that it has previously played in the past (same version of iTunes). It played it one day, then the album disappeared and will not allow it to be added again, it does how ever work perfectly in Quicktime player, Winamp, WMP and other players. When I use Add Folder to Library, I get a quick "Processing files" dialogue, then it disappears (Same if I drag the folder into the library itself), and when I try to play the files individually, nothing happens at all. I've tried everything short of reencoding the files, which I want to save as a last resort (So as to not lose audio quality) and Ripping the CD again isn't an option since I no longer have the original after my car was broken into.

Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 30G ipod thats almost full. I have it sync'ed to my MBP so I don't lose any music. But I don't wanna keep it stored on my internal drive, rather an external drive. It takes up too much space.
Should I just set the ext drive up as a separate bootable drive, and only sync my ipod when this drive is booted/connected?
Having just migrated from windows I'm still trying to get my head around downloading music movies etc from my back up discs I made from itunes. I've reinstalled itunes on my new MBP and afterwards it puts a blue movie and music folder on the desktop. I'm not sure what to do with these as they must contain the actual music and movies. before I deleted these folders and found that when I tried to access the music a window couldn't locate it. So I did a 2nd back up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI manage multiple iPads here at my school and had a question about iTunes backup. We want to have multiple backups from the past for each device so that we can restore the device from an old backup if something goes wrong. We have over 180 iPads so I need something quick and automated. We are also using a Mac Server if that helps any.

This weekend I purchased a new 13" MacBook Pro. In the process of transferring data from my old MacBook Pro to the new one I almost lost all of the data from my iPhone. In the process I realized that by default iTunes only keeps one instance of the backup data - the most recent one.To avoid such a near miss in the future and to add some healthy redundancy into my life, I would like to be able to keep at least one additional backup copy of my iPhone data. Elsewhere it has been suggested to periodically copy the backup folder to another location. This seems terribly inefficient. Is there a more Apple-like way to create and manage multiple backups of my iPhone and iPad data?Â

It has always been my understanding that each time. You backup your iPhone using iTunes, it overwrites the previous backup you created, which makes sense since the backup files are quite large. However, today I went to restore my iPhone to an old backup, and the drop down list has almost a dozen different backups from various dates in the past. And it's not that they are each a different device I only have one iPhone. It's not a big deal because I know how to delete them, it's just that each backup file is quite large and these 12 or so backups ate taking up 113 gb of space.

I'm using OSX 10.9.4.
My 500 GB hard drive is getting full, so I moved my entire ITunes music library (160 GB) to an external hard drive, and then moved the iTunes Media folder to the trash, and deleted it on my Mac. The moved files are playing fine from the external drive.Â
Surprise!
No disc space was freed up at all, because iTunes (I guess) cleverly backed everything up automatically.
I've tried to find these backup files in order to delete them -- to no avail.
How do I get rid of 160 GB of backups??Â

I want to delete all back ups of itunes in my time capsule since i'm doing the new organization method in itunes 9. How do i achieve this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen thinking on my backup solutions. Currently I use Time capsule and works great. Then I thought I want a backup of it so got an external USB and use the archive feature. Then I thought scrap that and get a dual drive NAS with a raid mirror. To be honest, I a thinking one backup is enough. Really what are the odds of the main machine and a backup to get screwed up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using a 2007 MacPro laptop, using OSX 10.6.4 for several years. I have my Itunes library on an external hard drive. I purchased a new MacPro laptop recently with 10.7.3. Both seem to be using Itunes 10.6. When I plug in the external hard drive Itunes doesn't see a library file, and no tunes are shown. I see the lists of files, but can't sync to a library file. I pluged in my Ipod Classic and about 1800 songs are in the new laptop Tunes media folder. But I cant get to the library where some 8000+ tunes, books, podcast's live. When I shift back to the old library no problems are noted. When I shift to the new laptop only the 1800 files it copied from from the Ipod are displayed. I seem to be able to tell it the library is external in advanced preferences, but no library can be found.

How can I find out what version of iTunes I have?

I get an exclamation mark in a grey circle in front of some of the songs in my "Music" library. When I try to play the song I get an error message: "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I have put all my music on an external HD. In the Advance Preferences I have changed the "iTunes Media folder location" to the external hard drive and there are check marks before "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library". Why does it not find some songs?

I have rented two movies, but either the selection of movies is tiny, or I am looking in the wrong place. I thought all the studios were on board and that thousands of movies would be available. I saw a few, and unless I was lookin in the wrong place, I wasn't too impressed by the selection.
I turned on my mac last night, and opened itunes (9) and went to start my music, *pop up*. I said, as I read the pop up saying it cant find the music. So I found it and fixed it, next one, WTF it cant find it either? 50 songs later and i come up with "Ok, its screwed" I have my music on a external HD, and never had this problem before, what gives? I did a clean up and everything, didnt help one bit. I've now made a new library and has dragged my old itunes music folder to the new one, anyone know why it broke?

I just opened iTunes and it is not seeing my music (at least not populating it) despite the location in preferences / advanced being the drobo. I have tried resetting it but nothing helps. I don't want to move the music onto the iMac I want to keep it on the drobo.
