Windows On Mac :: Wallpaper/desktop Background Difference?
Oct 5, 2009
I have Snow Leopard and will soon have Windows 7 on my Macbook. Why are the Windows 7 wallpapers so much nicer than Leopard and SL's pack?
There are some good new ones in SL, but it's still not much. The W7 RTM ones are jaw-dropping and I quickly made it the default folder for my SL backgrounds. Is it a money issue or something?

Note: I resized the pic smaller.

I have a 27 in, 3.06 C2D iMac with a 4850 video card. Ever since I installed Windows 7 I have this pixelated background issue with every wallpaper I use. The wallpapers are from interfacelift and are the correct resolution (I've tried the stock wallpapers as well). I've updated the drivers from ATi, updated bootcamp to 3.1, and I can't for the life of me fix the problem.

Is there anyway I can change all my folders background to the same image by only doing it once? Or do I have to do it for each individual folder? I checked off the 'Use as Default' option and some folders still don't have the wallpaper.

I have a guest account on my Mac with a background image I really like. The problem is that it looks like someone deleted the actual background image, because I can't find it anymore. When I login to the account, the image is still being shown.

I just did the newest security Apple OS X update and after rebooting the default Apple wallpaper was back on the desktop. I tried to change it but nothing will override the Apple wallpaper.
If I go to the Desktop settings, it shows the image of the wallpaper I have selected but its not shown on the desktop. How can I correct this?

my iMac keeps reverting after i'd say 2-5 minutes to the original default Snow Leopard background. I used to run a theme which changed every 15 minutes but since turned it off now it won't have any of it.

For two weeks my screen will go blue and then any data on the screen will come back, either to normal or expanded in scale. In the desktop preferences it will offer desktop and VGA options. Over the last two days it will resize smaller with black edges and display the last wallpaper I used not the current one. Any help in correcting this would be great it's an iMac and runs Mac OSX Version 10.4.11

I downloaded GeekTool 2.1.2 and was fiddling around with some of the settings so I could customize my desktop/dock. Unfortunately, this black box in the upper-left hand corner somehow appeared and now won't go away. I then uninstalled and am now running GeekTool 3.0. The problem persists. Is there a way I can get rid of this box, yet keep the changes I've already made in my dock?

I think this is a recent problem, but it could be a problem that I have only noticed recently. This is on a 2011 MacBook Air.
Whenever I switch back to the desktop from a fullscreen app there is a half second delay before the wallpaper appears.
When I use a three finger swipe out of the desktop, the wallpaper disappears immediately. When swiping between two fullscreen apps (mail and itunes, for example), you can basically see half of each app as you swipe, but this isn't the case with the desktop, it disappears to the patterned grey.
The menu bar does remain there, and when set to translucent always shows the background. I have tried this with a number of wallpapers including the default and solid colours.
If this is unclear I can try to upload a screenshot.
If this is common, then so be it, but for some reason I believe this worked differently. Searching came up with nothing but I may be searching for the wrong thing.
Info:
Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I have the background set to change every day, but it never changes. However, if i set it to change every 5 seconds it does. I think its just the everyday setting that doesn't work.

In the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, I wanted to add a new folder for use as my desktop background images. However, when I click on the + icon to add the new folder, it does not appear in the source list and instead, it duplicates my Aperture library source, as seen in attachment 1. If I try to add the new folder again, it says it is already present in the source list, as seen in attachment 2.
I've tried deleting my com.apple.desktop.plist preference file, and that resets things, but when I go to add the folder, it does the same thing. I've tried different folder locations, different folder names -- nothing works.

I've a mac mini, with two 24" Cinema Led displays. One display is connected directly to the mac mini (main screen) and one display is connected through a DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort Converter from Athlona (secondary screen). Yesterday I rebooted the machine and since the reboot I cannot change my main screens desktop background. I tried every solution from several fora on the net, but did not succeed to change it. I only have a solid gray colored background. Normally, when you select a wallpaper, it instantly changes the background. Now it doesn't. You can see it change in the "Desktop & Screensaver" menu, but nothing happens in real. Changing the background of the secondary screen is no problem. When I restart the machine, you can see that the solid gray colored background goes away and the original chosen wallpaper appears, but then closes because I restarted the system. On start-up of the system, you can see the original chosen wallpaper again for a few seconds, while the machine starts applications to open at login, and then suddenly changes again into the solid gray colored background.

The oddest thing happened after I unplugged my monitor and other peripherals from my MBP. When I went to look at the desktop, my background image had been replaced by another image! When I went to the Desktop & Screensaver settings, the image had disappeared from there, too! Has anyone else experienced this?
In the meantime, if someone with Leopard could forward this background image to me, it would be much appreciated. It is the background with a picture of what looks like morning dew on grass that was featured at WWDC 2007 and in many of the Leopard ads [URL]

I just set my background to rotate between the pictures in a folder and every time I restart the computer, I am stuck with a generic blue background (not in my pictures folder, mind you!).
I just have to right click/change destkop background, unselect the folder and then reselect and it comes back.
