Windows On Mac :: Graphics Card Not Recognized?
May 22, 2009I installed Windows 7 RC along with Boot Camp drivers for Vista 32 bit.
But my graphics card ATI X1600 is not recognized by Windows 7 RC.
Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

Nov 3, 2010I have installed windows XP on my Mac Pro and am trying to connect to the internet through a wired connection, which works just fine on OSX.
When I go into device manager, it doesnt even register that I have a way of connecting to the internet.

Jul 13, 2009i'm going to buy a new Mac Pro octo in a few days but i'm still wondering about the graphics cards.
I definitely need two of them in purpose of running four displays. The second will be a standard GT120.
What i need now is a fully compatible card that;
a. can drive two displays (30" and 24")
b. works without trouble with windows (bootcamp and XP or 7) and OS X
c. has a good gaming performance (i guess the 4870 is pretty poor with a 30", isn't it?)
I looked at the 4790, but i heard about difficulties with two monitors.

Mar 27, 2009If I am going to install a new video card in my Mac Pro, I imagine the process will be simple on the Mac OS side, but what about windows in bootcamp? Will it recognise the new card on first boot? or do I have to go through dos or something? Apart from updating the drivers is there any other configuring that needs to be done?

Sep 12, 2009So, I got the Polycarbonate Macbook , Parallels 5, and Windows 7 Home Premium. I installed windows on bootcamp and had parallels use the partition for windows and I got it all working, all the drivers on Windows are great, except the wifi. It's not even saying I've got a wireless card installed, it won't recognize that I have one in my Mac. But when I use parallels and when I boot it as a regular Mac, it works great. I've looked around and haven't found an answer to this? Anyone found a solution or could help?

Oct 23, 2010I'm currently looking to buy a new graphics card for my 2006 Mac Pro. I'm not going to be using OSX at all on the computer, only Windows/Linux, so I'm wondering what PC graphics cards I can use on if OSX drivers aren't an issue?
I've done a search and found a fair few answers, most of which have been more than a little contradictory and have got me somewhat confused. So any clear answer as to what's what on this would be much appreciated.
As a quick aside, just to explain why I'm doing this, in case anyone can think of a better idea, the situation is thus:
I work in VFX, primarily using Houdini. The main reasons to switch to Linux/Windows were OSX's lack of support for OpenGL 3 and 4 and the overpricing and unavailability of the new Ati 5870. Also Houdini is just that much snappier on Linux. So this mac pro is becoming a render/work box and I'm going to replace it for everyday stuff with a mac mini.

Graphics - Any 64MB 3D graphics card or above*
*NVidia GeForce FX or higher / ATI Radeon 9500 or higher. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Other integrated graphics chipsets are not supported.
I have an 20 month old iMac with a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Will that do? I have absolutely no idea about this stuff!

Sep 3, 2009I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ4 that I use for both pictures and video. I have a 1 gb SDHC card that has worked fine connecting to my Macbook (last white middle model, late 2008) via my generic 23 in one card reader. However, today I purchased a HP 16 gb SDHC card and it won't read on the Macbook at all. My camera uses it and acts as normal, but the drive won't even show on my Mac.
I attempted to use the card reader in Windows XP Pro via Parallels, and the same thing happened. In fact, I got an error stating that the USB device had malfunctioned. The card reader IS old. Maybe it's having trouble with the higher capacity? I'm going to try the cable that came with my camera, when I can find it. I may need to try a new card reader as well?
OS X :: SD Card Reader No Longer Recognized?
Feb 14, 2010I recently bought an SD card and reader for my Macbook Pro. It was working fine for a good month or so but as I was copying something to the card today, an error message appeared which said something about not having the right privilege to copy the content over to the SD card. The SD card was unmounted (if that's the word you'd use) automatically. When I tried plugging it back in to try again, nothing happened. I've tried plugging it into my PC but it says the device I've plugged in is not recognisable. The SD card reader has a red light that goes on when you plug it in which doesn't switch on anymore.
I've put the SD card itself into my TV as I was copying some video onto it. 15 minutes of the video has been copied and it's playable which to me suggests that the SD card itself is fine? Is there any way I can get it working again? I don't really understand what's happened.

Mar 12, 2008Ordered from eBay Graphics Card Upgare (Ati Radeon x1900xt / Part# 102A5202752 000006) for my new Mac Pro (early 2008). It came in white box with Apple logos. Attached and powered it but I get only "No Signal" on my monitors (LCD: Eizo FlexScan S2401W and Samsung SyncMaster 225BW). Tried different cables: DVI-D Single-link, DVI-D dual, DVI-I Dual and VGA+Apple DVI-adaptor - no effect.
It seems like the new card isn't recognized properly?

Apparently it was working fine up until a week ago, then just "disappeared from the top bar." Its a friends computer, so im trying to figure out what exactly he did. He had a verizon wireless manager app installed that was configuring the network connections itself, so i have since gotten rid of that.

The installation ran fine, but, as a first approach, I was really disappointed when inserting in the side slot of my iMac an SD card Sandisk 4Gb from my Nikon D90: it was not detected, not shown in the desktop, nor in Disk Utility, no way to be shown in iPhoto or Nikon View NX2. By the way Nikon View had a very strange behaviour: clicking on a thumbnail it opened a new window showing again thumbnails which, when clicked, opened new window..Switched bac to Snow Leopard every thing ran fine again. Must I say not very encouraged to try Lion once again

May 1, 2009I replaced my macbook pro last week with a MacPro 8 core.
For the last few days the GT120 graphics card was connected to two 24" dell monitors (2407 and 2408).
The 2407 is my main display and was connected via the display port to a display port to DVI-D adaptor and then to the DVI-D port on the screen. The 2408 was connected using the DVI-D on the graphics card straight to the monitor. This setup was great as I couldn't even tell if my mac was on or off because I couldn't hear any off the fans.
The only problem was that when running full screen video (EyeTV/Quicktime), the picture would sometimes stutter. After looking at the apple store website, a new GT120 was �99 for students so I picked one up yesterday.
The original GT120 is in slot 1 and is connected to my 2407 (main display) via DVI-D, the second GT120 is in slot 2 and connect to my 2408 via DVI -D. Now the problem is noise! I can now hear my mac whirring away all night (MacPro in my bedroom).
Any idea what the problem could be? When i run iTunes visualizer, both displays average at about 63fps and there is no stuttering of the picture. One thing I have noticed (using hardware monitor) is that when play itunes visualizer on full screen the GT120 in slot one uses 22% and the GT120 in slot two uses 99%.

May 3, 2009Like is having a higher end GPU only good if you play games? Will it still boost the computers performance even if I do stuff that doesn't involve videogames?

Jun 17, 2009I have two issues with my present X1900: it's not going to be OpenGL compliant come September, and more pressingly on a day to day basis, for some reason Eve Online, the game I'm rather addicted to, doesn't like me using two video cards - a stock GeForce 7300 and the Radeon.
I haven't been able to troubleshoot my way to confirming why I have the issue (and I've posted on Eve online forums - no one else seems to have the issue) but I get really odd graphics glitches when I have more than 2 screens 'detected'. Rather, when I have screens on more than 1 video card. I think it has to do with an ATI/nVidia conflict while running a Mac port of the Linux Port of Eve.
So I was hoping to get the 8800 perhaps, but they're getting pretty hard to find. Any other suggestions? Performance-wise I've been happy with the X1900, don't really *need* to upgrade, but I'd like to maximize OpenGL and solve this confilct issue so I'm not constantly climbing in behind my desk to unplug and replug DVI cables - I now run 3x monitors and a projector.
Price counts for me, I'd like to keep this upgrade as cheap as possible - don't use 'Pro' apps. I'm not afraid to flash a PC card if there's decent instructions around somewhere. This is actually a PC X1900 with a custom fan/heatsink fitted (Xcellero X2 or something? It's been a while).

Dec 22, 2009I just installed the Airport extreme wireless card on my emac, but I have run into some problems:
1)after installing the card, the mac took a very long time to start up, I tested to make sure it was the card: everytime I started it up without the card, it did the normal thing, but with the card, it took a long time
2)after finally starting up, nowhere can i find where/how to configure the wireless. When I go to configure the network, it has all options, but the airport card option is not usable.
So: how can i access the airport card settings to get wireless connectivity?

Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
1GB (2 x 512MB)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB SDRAM
Anyways, I have just started using it again and would like to use it to play WoW (probably via BootCamp) but the current graphics card is really insufficient.
So what I'm basically looking for is a graphics card that would run in a mid-07 Mac Pro with the 2x2.66GHZ Dual-Core Intel Xeon's (ram is not an issue, I can upgrade this as well) - that will allow me to play WoW on even good settings.

I have a G5 dual 2.0 with 5.5 GB ram and an ATI Radeon 9600 pro graphics card.
I have been running Final Cut Studio with no problems. Once I upgraded to FCS 2, it seems to drag with some of the new fetures. Motion 3 seems really slow! So I added 2 more gigs of ram to bring it up to the 5.5.
I am waiting for the new MP like so many of you, but I will keep this computer for off line editing and compressor and for a part time assistant editor to use.
Would it be worth it for me to upgrade the graphics card?
If so what would be a good choice of card for this type of work.
FYI the last computer game I played was Zork, so I don't care about gaming.

(Im new to mac so sorry if thats basic) Also say the card only worked with windows, if I plugged in a card and booted to windows would the card run that way? Reason I ask is that some of the work I do requires running high end games but I hate vista and have always wanted a mac. Im fine with dual booting if I have to but I was hoping that high end graphics cards would work on the mac pro so I dont have to buy two machines.

Apr 1, 2008Now on my second 2008 MP 2.8 octo and this keeps happening to my screen. I assume its a problem with the standard ATI 2600 graphics card. Anybody experience the same problem, happens with many different apps. Have done all updates, all Apple said was reset the PRAMMy first MP died after a couple of weeks, logic board and both processors failed. Couldn't get replacements as Apple were still waiting for Intel to increase production so I ended up with a new MP.

Apr 29, 2008I had recently purchased a 2nd hand G5 PowerMac with dual 1.8GHz processors and PCI-X slots. I think it was released in November 2003. It's a great machine, but suffers from its lacklustre 64MB graphics card. My Mac man told me not to bother, but I would like to investigate the option further. What do you think is available and where would I obtain one of these things? Oh, I should also ask the most important question...is it worth it?
