Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp V3 And Win XP - Win Not Shutting Down Properly

Dec 7, 2009

I just bought a new MBP a couple of days ago. I installed WinXP on Bootcamp partitioned to 91GB. I've also installed the Win drivers using the Snow Leopard disc. Whenever I run a program on WinXP, and then I try to switch back to MacOSX using bootcamp, the machine stalls. The screen locks up and I can't do anything. This can be any program (Norton IS, I have a game on it BattleField2). I've also tried to shutdown the machine and change it back to MacOSX. It shutdowns ok, but when I use bootcamp, it stalls.

I've tried to install the latest version of NVidia drivers for GeForce 9400M/9600M but NVidia installer says that no device can be found and the installer just shuts down. Please tell me that I don't have to reinstall Windows! I've ran it through Windows update and have all the patches.

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Update 3.1 Not Installed Properly

Sep 5, 2010

I've installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with the Snow Leopard dvd. Then after everything is installed, I look in the Apple Software Update program for the 3.1 Boot Camp-Update. I try to install this, but during installation several errors pop-up from the bluetooth, trackpad and keyboard driver.

After restarting the laptop, I can't use the functions (like brightness, volume,...) on the F1-F10 buttons anymore. The only solution to make it work again is to reinstall Windows. System Restore or trying to install the original Boot Camp drivers doesn't work. I thought this was just some corrupt download so I reinstalled Windows, but the problem still occurred. I then did it again, but still.

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp 3.0 HFS Disk Access Not Working Properly

Aug 29, 2009

Has anyone really tried out the ability to access your OSX Partition from Windows yet? I'm able to see mostly everything but the one folder I want to see, my home folder! It just shows up empty. Maybe it's because I have my account password protected, but just for installing programs, not for logging in. Plus, if that was what is causing it to not work, Apple should have asked for a username and password to login to the folder. Will Apple ever get its Windows Bootcamp software working correctly? They sure can never get it on the first try.

Windows On Mac :: Safe To Keep Shutting Down?

Sep 21, 2010

Having successfully installed Windows XP via Boot Camp on my new iMac and with everything up & running I am wondering what is really best for my iMac? From what I understand, when using OSX, you should never keep shutting it down all the time (unless you're going to be away from it for a while). It's best to put your Mac to sleep each night and restart the machine once a week. So what about Windows?

Having used a PC all my life, I'm very used to just shutting the computer down everytime when I have finished what I've needed to do and booting it back up when required. I'm going to be using Windows extensively for the next year on the Mac, so should I put it on Stand-by or Hibernate each time I'm finished? Or is it safe to keep shutting it down? (Note: I have the SSD + HDD option installed. I assume if I keep shutting it down, the performance of the SSD will degrade far quicker?)

Windows On Mac :: Shutting Down Vs Suspend VM Fusion?

Jun 10, 2009

When I installed VM Fusion and Windows XP (2) on my 13" MacBook I was told that I could exit Windows by selecting "suspend guest" from the drop-down menus, but when I do, I get a humungous "click triangle", and it sits there in the center of my screen until I click on it . . . . which boots up Windows again!
The only way I can close Windows is by going to the Fusion menu and selecting "shut down Fusion".
Also, I notice that I can't always activate or click on the Mac menu bar at the top of Windows to see those choices. In fact, when it does appear, it appears rather 'ghostly' and maybe only half of it appears - and is completely without function. When I jiggle the mouse pointer around awhile, it may appear, then I can shut down Windows.

MacBook Air :: Migrating Bootcamp Image / Blackbook Bootcamp Partition Having Windows

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.

Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

OS X :: Switched From Windows - Possible To Logout Of An Account Without Shutting Down Applications?

Aug 4, 2009

I just switched from windows/pc and want to know if it's possible to "logout" of an account without shutting down applications/internet connectivity. I used to be able to click "log off" (in windows) when I got up to leave my computer (for security) so that I would have to type in my username and password to get back in and applications such as AIM and internet connection were still available. Can you do this on a Mac? So far I only see options to log out completely or to put it into full sleep mode (signing you off of AIM and iChat).

I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

Also CPU usage seems to be averaging out at 20% for Safari and 100% for HD Video where as it used to be very small amount for Safari and 30 - 40% for HD.

Windows On Mac :: Stuck In "Windows Is Shutting Down" Screen?

Sep 15, 2009

I'm running XP on Fusion and left the session open over night. When I got to my computer this morning the session was stuck on the standard XP "Windows is shutting down..." screen. I've tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete, "Shut Down Guest", and "Restart Guest" under the Virtual Machine menu but Windows won't restart. I've also attempted to close down Fusion and restart, but that doesn't help either. At this point on a PC I'd just hold down the power button, but don't want to do that yet on my Mac.

Windows On Mac :: XP SP3 Stop DHCP To Work Properly

Jul 6, 2010

We have some Education iMacs that I am having some problems with. XP can be fully up to date (except SP3) without any problems, they are connected to the domain, get an IP address, correctly sync time and process group policy settings at a computer level prior to the logon screen. All this is using the ethernet port (not wireless). As soon as SP3 is applied, they don't get a DHCP address until after login, therefore they don't sync time, process policies etc. If I uninstall SP3, back to working. I have reproduced this several times on different Macs (we have about 90 that are exhibiting this). Tried different version of bootcamp drivers.

If I reserve the address in DHCP, it doesn't make a difference. I seem to only have 2 options:
1. Manually enter an IP address in Windows (this is too time consuming)
2. Leave SP3 off (this means WSUS 3.0 SP2 won't work)
Is there a newer ethernet driver outside the bootcamp package?

Intel Mac :: Moving Windows Doesn't Re-draw Screen Properly Sometimes

Mar 2, 2012

It started recently, and I've had this Mac Pro (10.6) for several years.  Sometimes, when I move a window, it doesn't redraw the screen *under* it properly, leaving my screen completely messed up. Activating Dashboard (temporarily) fixes it (causes a correct re-draw of everything), and sometimes taking a screengrab fixes it - the display looks correct underneath the area I am selecting for screengrab. A reboot fixes it also, for a while. Sometimes a Firefox window goes completely black, for some seconds, then comes back; haven't noticed that for any other programs' windows.  I have 4 monitors connected to this Mac and a bunch of internal drives, but everything was very stable until recently.

Info:
Intel Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Windows On Mac :: Open Up Bootcamp Partition (running Windows 7) In VMWare

Sep 4, 2009

So I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
