Software :: Mac Wont Open Secure Webpages?

Aug 21, 2010

all of a sudden my Mac will not open secure websites like gmail, facebook--basically anything that would require a login/password. regular sites like cnn.com still open. Additionally iMail can not download new emails anymore. I have rebooted, emptied the cache in safari, tried opening the pages in google chrome instead of safari, disabled parental controls, disabled IPv6 (read that somewhere). Our network is working otherwise, all the pages can open on other computers in the house. somehow my computer has been "told" not to accept anything over the network that requires a password it seems!? The only thing that has happened was 1)the network was down for a while 2)my daughter may have pushed a bunch of keys on the keyboard.

Safari Will Not Open / Connect To Webpages

Jun 21, 2012

I have searched through the forums here and google, and still have not found a solution.  I have logged into other user accounts with the same results, but found that the guest account does work. I've actually booted the machine in target disk mode and deleted safari, then downloaded and reinstalled it, but through the process there are probably a lot of things I've missed.  I've trashed the plugins, reset safari a billion times, and have even created a new location in network settings (per advice on another website). I'm not sure what else to try, short of wiping the system and re-installing (which seems drastic).

Safari Won't Open Many Webpages / Dropped Connection

Apr 4, 2012

Today I was working normally on my MacBook and then suddenly the page www.fanfiction.net stopped working, and everytime I reloaded or tried a different link of the same page I got the following message: "Safari can't open the page url... because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."I cleaned my cache and tried opening the webpage with Firefox and Opera and I get the same result.I have a Windows 7 partition and the webpage won't work either. While looking for a solution I notice that many webpages are not opening and I get the same message. I see that this has happened to many people, but I have not found a solution. I'm in China right now, it's the only real difference I can think, but I have been here almost a week and this happened until now.Mi mac is the MacBook Pro 15 inch and it's running with Mac OS X Lion 10.7. The system is not showing any updates to Safari.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari / Browser Won't Open Random Webpages

Jul 3, 2012

I am having problems with all of my browsers opening random websites. All was working fine until one day Safari simply refused to open a few random sites. I thought it was a provider glitch, but they said it's not and besides I have no trouble opening those same sites on my iPad and even from my Bootcamp Windows 7 system. I have no idea what is causing it, some sites simply won't open without any explanation. The browser just keeps loading and loading and loading, but no effect. To make matters even more confusing, it even won't load some images in the mail. The system is up to date. The problem is the same in Safari, Chrome, Opera and Firefox with same web pages.

Software :: Unable To Open Safari And ITunes - Incomplete Webpages

Jan 25, 2010

I've had some problems accessing Safari Internet, which is what I used previously. I can access Internet Explorer, but all web pages are incomplete and jumbled; nor am I able to download anything, including trying to download Safari. My iTunes will not open either, and I cannot view any type of video, using Adobe Flash player. I never used to have any of these issues before. The current Internet setup is At&t Broadband. I am wondering if you might be able to suggest what the problem is, and how to remedy it.

OS X :: How To Redirect Webpages

Oct 3, 2008

I'm having trouble with people at my workplace spending too much time on non-work related websites (MySpace, YouTube, etc...). Ideally, I'd like to be able to do the following, but of course, this is a Mac. I would need it to work for both Safari and Firefox

code:Prank your friends by redirecting there favourite site into something there not expecting! NOTE: Heres the written tutorial because i forogot to put audio onto the video... ;( Written Tutorial: STEP 1. Find a website that your friend would NOT like to go to... STEP 2. Go to the site:

[URL] STEP 3. Type in the URL you would like to direct in the "Enter a host name for Forward DNS Lookup:" box STEP 4. Press look it up, and copy the IP address down. STEP 5. Click on "Start" ---> "Run" and type in "notepad cwindowssystem32driversetchosts" STEP 6. On the last line paste the ip address, press tab and type in the URL your friend will visit STEP 7. Save and test Once he goes to the website he wishes, it will redirect into the website you set it to Hope this prank goes well!

Failing that, is there a simple way of just blocking websites from the OS and only allowing administrator access to bypass these?

Applications :: Monitoring Webpages For Changes?

Nov 25, 2008

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good app for the Mac that will monitor a given web page for any changes in content and immediately send an email or other alert letting me know. I don't care so much about the particular changes, just the fact that a change was made.

I was looking at Web Secretary, but it's a *nix app that doesn't have a GUI and I'm not entirely sure it would do what I need. I would rather have something a bit more user-friendly anyway, and preferably free.

OS X :: Unable To Load Nearly All Webpages?

Apr 26, 2009

I have a MacBook running OSX 10.4, and I'm using Firefox 3.0.9. For nearly every webpage that I open, the error log gives me an error like "Expected (blank) but received (blank). Declaration dropped." This isn't a problem for some webpages, as they'll load fully, but for others, they won't load at all. This is a really frustrating problem, and it just started all of a sudden yesterday. I didn't install a new web browser or any new extensions, and I've done virus and malware scans, and I can't seem to find the problem. Could it be a problem with extensions, or with my system, or perhaps my Internet connection?

Software :: Size Of Webpages Over 100%?

Sep 6, 2009

I am a new MAC owner. Being curious , I click on stuff I should not. I use a particular bingo game site. Lately the window appears at more than 100% in size. I lose the bottom part of the page where important information is like the options box, chat area, full gameboard and my points information. I tried discussion forums on the apple web site, but the answers do not quite apply to my situation. I searched for a manual for safari (my Internet explorer). I am on a dial up connection and it would take me a few days to download a manual. I hope you can help me. Other sites I visit like my Yahoo are fine . Only my bingo site.

Safari :: 5.1.2 Does Not Load Any Webpages

Feb 25, 2012

I bought a brand new laptop from HP in September and within a week of getting, adding nothing more than a few starwars games, I installed Safari 5.x (I'm not sure the exact version). I opened it up and no webpages would load. I can access settings, open new tabs, the works. I simply cannot browse to any website at all. I can type in a web address and the loading bar starts, but then hangs all day at like 10%.

All other web browsers I've used work fine. So I uninstalled it. Again today I downloaded and installed safari 5.1.2. Same thing. I'm wondering what the problem is and have tried the netsh winsock reset trick and reinstalling etc. Nothing has solved it. I downloaded 4.0.5 while typing this and that does not seem to be working either. iTunes works fine. I have no proxy settings. My firewall is turned off. Could there be some other program that conflicts with Safari and only Safari?

OS X :: Loads Webpages Slow Or Times Out?

Sep 27, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro with bootcamp and Windows 7 as well as OS X (unsure of version number at this moment, but think its 10.5). On the Windows 7 side, webpages load quickly in both Firefox 3.6.10 and Internet Explorer 8.0 and I rarely have trouble. On the MAC side, webpages are often unbearably slow to load and often do not load at all or time out or stop halfway through loading. This is both occurring in Firefox (latest version) and Safari (latest version).

OS X :: How To Save Webpages For Offline Viewing

Apr 1, 2009

How can I save web pages I visit so I can view them when I'm not online? For example, right now i'm writing an essay for school and have like 10 web pages saved on my Google Notebooks. Obviously this isn't an issue when I'm connected to the internet as I can simply just go to my notebook and link to the sites again. But there are times, like yesterday when I had a few hours to kill, no where near any internet but had my macbook with me in my car and could've typed away. But needed the info on the web pages. How can I save/cache those sites so I can open them up when I'm not connected to the internet? If it matters I use Firefox mainly/online. BTW, I realized it takes like 80% less time for me to complete an essay if i'm using my macbook than a PC from my university.

OS X :: Mac / Safari Saving Webpages (spying)?

May 7, 2009

I thought that I'd accidentally erased some important files, so I used Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery to scan my drive for deleted files. Many hours later, the app finished scanning my drive, and I decided to save all deleted files that it could find. What did I find in the JPEGs folder? I found JPEGs of whole webpage windows in Safari!!! There are tons and not of times when I would take a screenshot. There are large browser window images of my e-mail browsing, forum browsing, etc. And when I say large, I mean that if one has to scroll down to see a webpage, the image is actually of 2 vertical pages or so, so the images are of parts that would go off the page.

What the ***** is going on here? WHY or HOW can there be such image recordings on my hard drive? It's not cache in HTML but as JPEGs. The images are from Safari on Tiger, by the way.

Here are some examples:
http://www.nothinggg.com/mr/browser_wtf_1.JPEG
http://www.nothinggg.com/mr/browser_wtf_2.JPEG
http://www.nothinggg.com/mr/browser_wtf_3.JPEG
http://www.nothinggg.com/mr/browser_wtf_4.JPEG
http://www.nothinggg.com/mr/browser_wtf_5.JPEG

If anyone has time to scan their hard drive for deleted files, please check on this browser window image thing. There are images of open e-mail messages, etc. This is ridiculous.
