I don't know where it came from... but when I right click on a picture file, under open with, "Photoshop, etc etc:" then "Opera" shows up! I tried to command F and delete all the files that says "Opera" yet I still can't get rid of Opera! It's not in my applications folder, etc. How do I get rid of it?
Which internet browser is the most battery friendly on OS X? I currently use Safari (obviously you'd think apple would make a battery-friendly one), but I was wondering if there was another good browser. I know chrome is pretty battery intensive, which is sad, it's one of my favorites. How is Firefox and Opera and such?
My Safari keeps quitting unexpectedly with the notice "while using .OperaWebBrowser.tmp". I have never downloaded this Opera plug-in and I cannot find anything like it in my Downloads.
Lets say I have a friend / family member and I occasionally allow them to use the delights of Safari and OS X. Now, I don't want replies stating if you don't trust them don't allow them but, is it all possible to have users not clear the history of sites they may have been browsing?
This is really odd. Occasionally when I open a torrent file, instead of Transmission (default) opening, Opera opens the torrent. How can that be? I don't have Opera. I've never installed Opera. I never thought about installing Opera. The crazy thing about it is it works (it loads up websites) but when I search for it in AppCleaner and in Spotlight, it's nowhere to be found. How is that possible? How can a program that I never installed be working on my computer?
when I open a .torrent file on my MBP, the default application that opens it is Opera. I never installed Opera. I can't see Opera in my Applications and spotlight can't find it either .
I have an old G3 pismo with OSX 10.3.9For the moment My girlfriend uses FireFox and I use Safari...so I dont have to keep signing in and signing out everytime i want to check my mail.BUT the last compatible Safari for Panther is 1.3.2 which recently seems to be opening less and less stuff... I've heard that Opera is a pretty good browser... Will it work on Panther and how much space does the App take up on the HD. And lastly any problems running the 3 of them untill I decide that its worth changing...then if so, how do I throw out the old Safari app.
I have tried multiple times to install and run Opera 10 on Snow Leopard on my 2007 MBP but it just won't work. The programme installs but on trying to open it, it either sits not responding or quits unexpectedly without even starting. I can't find any logical reason for this and there is no word of this on the Opera site.
So I backed up my Opera Bookmarks rigorously in case the Mac died. Well it died. And since I'm using a WinXP machine for the time being I'd like to bring those bookmarks over to the PC. The problem is they are in a .hqx format and I don't know how to extrat it. I tried WinRAR and 7zip without success. Of course I realize now I should have saved them as a HTML file... Then I think I could have brought them over with no issues. Please confirm if possible. And if you have any ideas (both my Macs are dead for the time being) on the bookmark thing, please let me know. All the other files are ok - text files have some glitches but most are fine. The ones with glitches have to be resaved in RTF format. If course the least important (.avi) play perfectly!
I'm a brand new Mac user! How do I import bookmarks from Safari to Opera? I saw one response to access the file bookmarks.plist in Library, but this file is not there;i.e. Library>Safari does not exist. I have been able to retrieve the file bookmarks.html - can I use this?
I have several multi-CD opera albums loaded into iTunes for Mac. I've merged them (same album name, marked as part of a compilation, though I've kept the individual CD #s and track #s) so that each opera shows as one album in iTunes. I've also set gapless playback. This works fine for tracks within each of the opera's discs (i.e. no gap between track 2, 3, 4 etc.)
I'm still hearing gaps when iTunes moves from one CD to the next (i.e. between the last track on CD 1 and the first track on CD 2). The gap is about 5 seconds and seems to occur whichever opera/ set of CDs I playback. Is there a way to eliminate this? I don't think this gap is native to the CDs themselves as it occurs across tracks that are part of the same act/scene. I'm using the latest version of iTunes and this refers to playback on my Mac.
I recently downloaded the latest version of Flash Player and the plugin seems to keep crashing on all the major browsers including Safari. I am using a Mac Pro Generation 3.1 with OSX Lion. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and it still keeps crashing.
Whenever I delete an email using iMail, it doesn't delete from my gmail account when I would just use the regular browser to check my mail. Is there a way to delete emails both off of iMail AND from Gmail so it does not appear when using a browser to check my mail or on another computer?
How do I delete text. Let's say I wrote the wrong word, as you know a Windows keyboard has "Delete" and "Backspace" keys, but a MacBook keyboard only has a "Delete" key which acts like the "Backspace" key. So in order for me to delete on work I have to go behind the text and use it like backspace.. how do I just delete the word from the front?
I was running my iMac just in admin, which I know is frowned upon but that's the way I had it. I had a corrupt preferences file and I couldn't save any of my passwords etc Finally created a new user and reinstalled everything and it works fine. Had to replace all my passwords for my apps etc but other than that not that big a deal.
Question is can I now delete the other user now that I have a new admin login?:
It is just taking up storage space with a user which is corrupted but I don't want to erase the data in that user and also delete all my data in the new user as well.
This morning I suddenly found out that, on my new macbook pro, command-delete will delete the file (with the warning window) immediately without putting it into trash first. This function works well yesterday.
Is there a way to change the delete button to delete to the right instead of to the left? I always have to reposition the cursor to delete what I want!
I want to delete a large number of old emails in my Mac Mail inbox. I have 4425 in inbox and want to delete all but current ones. How do I highlight the mails, as a group, from the oldest to mail to most current that I want to delete?
I dual boot my iMac using Boot Camp and I'm having problems deleting a bunch of files in my Trash. A short history. I purchased a OWC external hard drive case and I've been going through my old hard drives which originally were used in my Windows XP computer. The drives were contaminated with Windows viruses and so I installed the drives one by one in the OWC case and proceeded to delete files and programs which I didn't need in each drive while in OS X and keeping the files I wanted to save in each respective drive. Now what I'm faced with is a Trash bin filled with Windows XP software (including Windows XP itself) which I cannot delete because OS X says I don't have permission to delete those files.
After I installed OS X I decided to go through my other partitions & do a little spring cleaning. In all, I trashed over 400MB of crap, but one file has refused to be deleted (it's a locked file left over from the old 3Com ISDN modem I had). When I try to empty the trash I get the following message:
"The operation cannot be completed because the item 'IQ320.BIN' is locked."
So, I look through the system help & find out that I either need to log in to OS X as the user who created the document ('root') or restart into OS 9 & unlock it from there.
Well, neither tactic has worked thus far. I restarted into OS 9 but found out that I can't access the file because it's in the trash (in OS X), which is an invisible directory (/Langly/.Trashes/102/). So then I restarted into OS X, logged in as root, but I still couldn't delete it. Desperate, I opened terminal, switched to root (su) found the files, but still can't delete the darned file. I tried rm, mv (thought if I moved it to somewhere that OS 9 could see it...), even chown, but each time I got "Operation not permitted." Any thoughts out there?
I tried to remove a user group from my desktop following the procedures given. I could remove all but one user.
This is the one I want to remove. How can I do this? I have 4 user groups. Why?, when ever I had trouble and called AppleCare they had me install a new user group, which I never removed.
My sytem is OSX 10.3.9 for the moment I'm running FireFox and Safari, but Safari crashes quite often and wont open a lot of pages. I want to keep Firefox (2.0.0.20) but want another browser to back it up.
I personally am using chrome for mac nowdays in snow leopard. Why? Safari has gone into idiot mode with flash, safari adlblock no longer works (in 64bit) and it seems to take too much memory at times, which my 2GB system cant handle Firefox is so-last-generation. After using safari and chrome firefox seems miles slower at almost everything. I do however use it for its excellent addons So, which browser are you primarily using nowadays? (snow leopard or otherwise?)
Don't know where to put this? but as I have a mini and have asked questions here will ask again. I'm not that interested in Netflix etc or games but would like to watch other type movies say life Lifetime etc. and had thought if I got a DVD player with WiFi it would work but no so from my son, I need something with a browser. My TV is an older model Sony Grand Wega KDF-42WE with coax, composite video, s video, component video and 1 HDMI connections. What can I use?
I made a simple test by opening same webpages with firefox and safari.facebook, gmail, apple start page and an internet newspaper...in activity monitor safari was using 270 mb of memory versus 170 of firefox... on a clean reboot...before after using safari for a while.. kept the open pages and reopened them in firefox.. it was safari 550 mb vs. firefox 250 mb
