MacBook Pro :: Safari Keeps Quitting Because Of Opera Web Browser Plug-in
Apr 17, 2012
My Safari keeps quitting unexpectedly with the notice "while using .OperaWebBrowser.tmp". I have never downloaded this Opera plug-in and I cannot find anything like it in my Downloads.
Recently, my Safari began shutting down and displaying the following error message: "Safari quit unexpectedly while using the .WindowsWallpaperChanger.tmp plug-in." It seems to happen when I'm streaming Pandora or Netflix. It happens after about 15 minutes. The "change picture" setting in the system preferences is unchecked. The tmp file is not found on my computer (MacBook Pro).
I don't know where it came from... but when I right click on a picture file, under open with, "Photoshop, etc etc:" then "Opera" shows up! I tried to command F and delete all the files that says "Opera" yet I still can't get rid of Opera! It's not in my applications folder, etc. How do I get rid of it?
Which internet browser is the most battery friendly on OS X? I currently use Safari (obviously you'd think apple would make a battery-friendly one), but I was wondering if there was another good browser. I know chrome is pretty battery intensive, which is sad, it's one of my favorites. How is Firefox and Opera and such?
I'm a brand new Mac user! How do I import bookmarks from Safari to Opera? I saw one response to access the file bookmarks.plist in Library, but this file is not there;i.e. Library>Safari does not exist. I have been able to retrieve the file bookmarks.html - can I use this?
My work site requires me to download an internet plug-in (Safari comes up with the message - "Safari cannot find internet plug-in"). After following companies directions and installing the plug-in I still get the same message when I try to visit the site.
Yesterday, Safari began crashing every 45 minutes. I get a message that says Safari quit unexpectedly because of a plug-in called .MasterofDefense.tmp. I used finder to search my computer, and I cannot find this file. PlugIn Path: /Users/<myname>/Library/Application Support/.MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Identifier: .MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Version: ??? (???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.
I have an old G3 pismo with OSX 10.3.9For the moment My girlfriend uses FireFox and I use Safari...so I dont have to keep signing in and signing out everytime i want to check my mail.BUT the last compatible Safari for Panther is 1.3.2 which recently seems to be opening less and less stuff... I've heard that Opera is a pretty good browser... Will it work on Panther and how much space does the App take up on the HD. And lastly any problems running the 3 of them untill I decide that its worth changing...then if so, how do I throw out the old Safari app.
Choice is good, I chose Apple for their reliable and stable computers and have done so ever since they have had them. So post your favorite add-ons and even themes, or even mention one's you were not happy with. There are thousands of them. So it would be good to have a idea what other Mac users have found to be very useful. Perhaps Apple will adopt a few of those features for future Safari versions. (disclaimer: no connection to any browser maker or any of the plug-ins I mention) Firefox: SmoothWheel - what this does is makes scrolling very smooth and slick. Split Browser - allows one to split the window into many configurations, mainly to compare two sites without having to open another window. NoSquint - remembers the zoom level of sites that you set FastestFox - does a lot of things, but my favorite is how it pages all of Google's search results on one page, so one can just keep on scrolling...and scrolling...FlagFox - displays the country flag of the IP of the website where it's hosted in the URL field. So if you think your visiting a .ru (Russia) site it might be hosted the UK or US for example. Morning Coffee - one click loads the sites you want everyday or by the day. WOT - Web of Trust - a rating of sites and links in web email based upon a color code, green is good, red is bad and all types in between.........
I recently downloaded the latest version of Flash Player and the plugin seems to keep crashing on all the major browsers including Safari. I am using a Mac Pro Generation 3.1 with OSX Lion. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and it still keeps crashing.
Safari quitting just randomly, this has happened me this past 2/3 days, only I have no clue what it means, how to fix it. I've read about clam xav and flashback removal tool, but I am not sure if I am even doing the right thing?
Everytime I click on Safari the only thing that pops up is the report box stating that safari had quit unexpectedly. I've tried restarting it many times and still nothing. I've also made sure there arent any updates available, since everything is up to date.
Safari has been quitting unexpectedly every 30-45 minutes sighting a .NationalBiologicalCorp.png plug-in as the problem. It's been doing this for about a day and a half, and I've ran all the flashback trojan checks and it comes up with nothing.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
My Safari keeps quitting unexpectedly and there is nothing I can attribute to the crashing. I have OS 10.5.8. I saw there is an update for 10.6 for flashback malware.
Usually every half an hour safari will close on me... its bloody anoying and the message to send it to apple comes up and says badder addervx.png pluggin. why is this happening and how the **** can i stop it!
I've always been as safe as I know how to be with my mac. In case it is relevant, I run sophos security through my school and don't have any pirated software or files. That being said, Safari has been quitting very frequently. Many programs crash for no reason but none as often as safari. The reason it always offers is that something about the microsoft office genuine plugin. I think it's called microsoftofficegenuine.so I don't even run microsoft office... I had a legal 2004 edition a few months ago but it refused to open so I deleted it and now run openoffice. I do have silverlight though, because of netflix.
So far to fix the problem I have run software updates & installed those and repaired disk permissions via disk utility. I deleted the "microsoft updates" file (might have been a bad idea) and also, when I try to open this plugin it mentions, or search it on my system, it doesn't show anything, so I can't delete that. I've checked for this new flashback trojan but that website to check your UUID says mine is not reported as being infected...whatever that means. Also, something that has been gradually getting worse over the last few months:
I've noticed that some of my right click options have changed from names such as "open" and "open with" to numbers like N160. Most recently some of my finder options in the left tool bar have changed to S5, S6, S7, etc. Perhaps in my angst to fix things I deleted an important file... UPDATE: It crashed again moments after posting this and I copied the details of the crash report:
I go on Justin.tv all the time to watch the Office and when I do I don't notice any lag but recently I have occasionally. I checked activity monitor and it says the Flash Plug in is at around ~45% CPU. Why does it hog so much CPU? How can I change this? Is this normal for flash?? I thought my MBP would be able to handle this..
