I noticed that I have an Epson printer RX690 icon in my techtool pro rescued items folder ? this is the epson printerproxy? but can't put this away and don't know where is would go and if this would make a difference.

Feb 23, 2009When starting Safari it take 3-4 minutes to load Google - Then when I type in the search box, within the first letter or 2 it locks up again - sometimes says "Could not contact Spell Checker"
I updated from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 3 months ago and all has been just fine but now I am getting these errors. Also when Safari is acting up, Mail won't operate properly.
If I set up a new user, everything works great. But I'd like to restore my Local Preferences if possible without losing anything.

Jun 27, 2014I restored my mac from time machine, downgrade from Mac OS X 10.10 to 10.9.3. After that the position of the input method selection box is not right. The right place should be: After typing continually, the selection box jump to left edge of the screen: The problem occured in IM, word, web browser, etc. It's all right before I restored from time machine, in both 10.9.3 and 10.10. Some of my firends has the same problem.

Aug 6, 2010My Mac was running out of space and my utility showed me that the .sparsebundle file (in my username folder but a greyed-out one with a "dot" in front of it) was gigantic in size (around 100 GB). So I deleted it.
I emptied the trash and everything appeared to be fine, until I logged out.
When I tried to log in with that user again it threw an error and I couldn't log in anymore. I then logged in with the Admin account (luckily I remembered) and that worked, but all my data from the previous user that iI was using appears to be gone!!
Is there anything I can do to get that data back? I'm very desperate, there are hundreds of very important files that are now gone.

Nov 21, 2009I bootcamped my Macbook Pro with minimal assistance from my mac geek husband tonight - and messed up - BIG TIME. When in the "partition mode" of windows it asked which of the systems I wanted to FAT or partition. Well - me not knowing - thought the 200mb space was a little small and deleted it.
When the system restarted and I read the error - I knew I was in BIG trouble. So I went to boot camp assistant and got this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I am FREAKING out BIG TIME! Can you help me to restore the information - so I may go and humbly as my husband to help me do it right - or maybe google the directions before starting.
OS X :: Deleted Private Folder - Keep Getting Error While Restoring
May 2, 2010I deleted my private folder. It's still in the trash, and it's also in my applications folder if that makes a difference. I turned off my mac and now I can't boot it back up. I can boot into single user mode and tried entering some codes in there but I keep getting errors. I have a new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard, and I have the install disk but I can't get the computer to start up with it.

Although all my Mail preferences are set to 'never delete', periodically my entire Inbox and Sent folders get completely emptied out, every email deleted. The many emails I have in folders are untouched. I need to refer often to my sent mail and this is causing large problems as you'd imagine - as is losing my Inbox contents before I've dealt with them all.

Mar 29, 2010could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
What do I need to do to make myself admin again?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System
Jul 3, 2012I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

OS X :: Unable To Set Permissions For Music Files / Deleted Old Preferences?
Jul 2, 2009After a lot of fruitless time-consuming crap including reinstalling my OS and deleting all my preferences, they created a new useraccount and it didn't have the problem. So they said I should just make a new account and migrate everything over there and use that.
Well, I've spent the last 8 hours trying to put everything to rights after everything they did to my computer. And I got most things taken care of. However, when in iTunes (which I had to reload my entire library into), I find that I can't edit information on any of the songs. I looked into file info and even though I told it to "apply to enclosed items" when I gave the new account read/write permission and transferred ownership.... it didn't do it. The files within the folders are still set as being owned by the old account, which, I assume, is why I can't edit them.
There has to be a way to fix this that doesn't involve going through 14,000 songs and individually changing their permissions settings, but I can't find it.

Apr 30, 2012I read somewhere that deleting the content from those folders would speed up your Mac, which I believed until I did so...I emptied my trash, and everything was running smoothly for a few minutes...now my mac is EXTREMELY slow, it take FOREVER to open Applications and Documents, the volume keys are messed up and don't even work, I click it and 10 minutes later it responds...and everything is messed up! I thought if I gave it time, it will go back to normal, but no, it's been 4 days and nothing!
I don't have Time Machine set, nor do I have OS X Snow Leopard disk. Is there a way to solve this problem without buying a new disk? My parents lost the old disk, and we aren't financially comfortable right now..

Feb 14, 2009I upgraded my mac, to the latest version of the OS. Half way through the update, the power went, and my whole system, is messed up.
I thought, its ok, ill re install it from the disk, ill only lose software that i have installed, all my data is backed up, its fine. After 1 hour of installing mac OSX.5 the loaded, fine... but a few problems.
The software that came on the mac, is not there now.
My mac keeps restarting my Airport.
My question, if i use the disks that came with my mac, can i have the software back on OSX.4 and then upgrade it like when OSX.5 came out? Would i have hte software back?

Sep 25, 2008I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger

May 10, 2009I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
MacBook Pro :: Restoring Time Machine Onto New System?
Jul 16, 2010I've just got a new MBP13 yesterday and was too engrossed in putting every documents and installing every programs that I have into my new MBP13. Until this morning, I just realized that I am hit by this pretty common issue of having a 'wobbly' MBP. Its like, it doesn't seat flat on the flat surface. I've tried a few surfaces from wooden table to glass tops, its still the same.
So, I've called Apple after sales and they are kind enough to do a 1 to 1 replacement, but I have to wait for 4 days without my MBP for them to turn it around. Seems abit long for me to be frank, but AppleCare starts afresh. Alright, long story aside, as I am too lazy to reinstall and putting all my important documents back to the even newer MBP13 that is coming, is it possible for me to do a Time Machine backup from here, then just restore everything to the new MBP13 without any problems? Specs wise its 100% the same.
