View 1 Repliesi couldn't delete a file from my trash can, so i followed a link i found in a thread where some one had the same problem as i did, in the link i found a guide that said i should go to terminal and enter "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash" so i did, and yea my trash can was now empty, but then i tried to delete a file by dragin' it into my trash can in the dock, my macbook now tells me that the file will be deleted INSTANT, i search the internet again and found out that my problem was that the command i intered in terminal (sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash) deleted my trash directory

View 3 Replies View RelatedStupid I know, but I saw my 'home' file was named root and for some reason thought it should be Home so I tried to change it.Meanwhile about half an hour later I had a power cut. On rebooting the computer, it logs me in to a default user with default settings.I know many people have done this before and I've been searching the net all day trying to do everything they say. The main difference is, the name wasn't changed and is still root therefore there is no 'old' file somewhere called home with all my files in that I can just swap over or change the name back to what it was before as most people seem to have been able to do.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEither I accidently deleted an email in my apple mail inbox or my computer deleted it (because it was in my inbox for several months) but now I can no longer find this important email. Though, I do have time machine running always, so I was wondering if the email had been saved to anywhere on the hard drive where time machine may still have it.

I recently deleted and threw out the trash a folder on my Macbook titled "untitled". I didn't think it was anything important so I put it in the trash and emptied it. This was a few days ago. My wife today is asking me for that folder. It contained some pictures.
Can I recover them?

So I was importing all of my videos onto final cut from my sd card when my friend asked if he could have the sd card. i started to safely eject the sd card but it was still loading.(it was still importing the rest of the videos into final cut). He then took the sd card out without all the videos importing over and deleted them off the camera. What do i do!!!! Some of the videos did transfer across but some didn't, the rest just say missing camera.Â
Note: I have already tried to use a sd card recovery application, they recover all the photos fine but all the videos come down with a black screen when played and scarcely audio.Â
What is my next step?Â
Today I accidently moved a project I'd been working on from my flash drive to my desktop, I already had a folder of the same name on my desktop and when I merged it, it overwrote the old file and my project is totally gone. Is there any way of undoing this or recovering my work.

I have a bookmarked a reputable company for easy access.Log-in icon, easy and secure, no problems.Weeks ago, I entered a wrong password, and a page stating "error" appeared. log-in was successful when reset and again, secure, and safe.
Now this page is still appearing any time I press the log-in button to access the secure logging in page, when I go to bookmark. OK, I removed the whole bookmark from safari, accessed the general web site of the company, and whenever I try to access the log-in page, (not even bookmarked!) I immediately get the same error page!, again and again, without even entering any data or user name or attempted password. This "error" page must have been stored somewhere on my MBA.How can I remove this and start a fresh bookmark?
I have Microsoft Word for Mac on my Macbook. My husband deleted a folder with my word documents and he has already deleted the trash folder. Can I recover the folder? How do I recover my deleted files?

All emails from my iCloud account (previously .mac and then .me) inbox older than one week just disappeared. They had been in my inbox for years. Why did this happen now and are they recoverable? I have Time Machine backups on my iMac. Will restoring my system or a particular folder recover the lost emails or were they only on the server?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Mac was running out of space and my utility showed me that the .sparsebundle file (in my username folder but a greyed-out one with a "dot" in front of it) was gigantic in size (around 100 GB). So I deleted it.
I emptied the trash and everything appeared to be fine, until I logged out.
When I tried to log in with that user again it threw an error and I couldn't log in anymore. I then logged in with the Admin account (luckily I remembered) and that worked, but all my data from the previous user that iI was using appears to be gone!!
Is there anything I can do to get that data back? I'm very desperate, there are hundreds of very important files that are now gone.
I accidentally deleted my recent call list. Can I retore it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bootcamped my Macbook Pro with minimal assistance from my mac geek husband tonight - and messed up - BIG TIME. When in the "partition mode" of windows it asked which of the systems I wanted to FAT or partition. Well - me not knowing - thought the 200mb space was a little small and deleted it.
When the system restarted and I read the error - I knew I was in BIG trouble. So I went to boot camp assistant and got this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I am FREAKING out BIG TIME! Can you help me to restore the information - so I may go and humbly as my husband to help me do it right - or maybe google the directions before starting.
I deleted my private folder. It's still in the trash, and it's also in my applications folder if that makes a difference. I turned off my mac and now I can't boot it back up. I can boot into single user mode and tried entering some codes in there but I keep getting errors. I have a new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard, and I have the install disk but I can't get the computer to start up with it.
