Software :: Waking Up MacBook Pro From Sleep Freezes OS

Sep 7, 2008

When I use my macbook pro, with everything working fine, as soon as I close the lid on my pro and later open it, i notice my machine freezes for 90% of the time with two seconds to allow me to do something and then still freeze. Something must not be working when my machine wakes up from a sleep.

OS X :: MacBook Freezes Upon Waking Up From Sleep Mode

Feb 2, 2010

Whenever I close my computer to put it to sleep and then open it up later, the computer freezes and I am unable to type in my password to unlock my computer and am forced to hold down the power button until it turns off and then reboot it. This has become a major pain and has only started today but has happened 3 times already. I have an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and a Magic Mouse connected to my computer and am running 10.6.2 if that helps. I'd rather not have to shut down my computer all the time and I'm no longer covered by any protection.

MacBook :: Waking Up / Not Going To Sleep?

Apr 13, 2009

I just occasionally have noticed my Blackbook, running 10.5.6, when I open it after closing it and moving elsewhere say, may have lost a lot of it's battery power. I think what's happening is it's not going to sleep properly (or it's waking up) when closed. This of course leaves me with not enough power (today 8% when I opened up). What concerns me much more is that the HD arm might not be in the parked position and damage could result with me travelling around. I have in fact had two complete HD failures in 2 1/2 years (though I have no reason to believe this is the cause, in fact I doubt it). I'm aware I can press the power button then select SLEEP and I often do when I'm just charging at home and want to keep the temp down (it's hot here!). Very interested to know what's going on though.....in fact interested in the bigger picture of HD arms when the things spinning as I use my Macbook outside and on my lap a lot, and can't help some movement of course. I emphasise when I shut the lid it normally sleeps as normal, this is just an occasional thing. So is it dangerous, what's causing it, and what about the bigger pic on HD arms when moving the laptop around?

MacBook Air :: Keeps Waking Up From Sleep?

May 3, 2009

My girlfriends Air has suddenly gotten a weird problem lately. Every now and then when she wakes it from sleep it seems to think that it has a second display connected to it. Even rebooting doesn't always solve the problem.

She has never used an external display with it before. The port looks clean (I thought there might be something there causing a short) and as far as we know there hasn't been any tinkering with any system files on her computer.

Anybody ever heard of this problem before? Or have any idea how to fix it?

MacBook Air :: Wifi Not Waking Up From Sleep

Mar 28, 2008

I am not sure if this is related to the other wifi issues posted on this thread. I am hoping it is an easy Leopard configuration thing. But my wifi used to work perfect--until I patched my OS version. Now, whenever open the lid, it can never connect to my wifi router immediately like it used to do. It spends cycles hunting, and I end up having to manually go into network preferences and try a few times to connect, including rekeying the password.

OS X :: MacBook Crashes On Waking Up From Sleep

Apr 15, 2009

I have a late 2008 macbook, and occasionally after going into sleep via closing the lid or according to the sleep timer, it doesn't really want to wake up. I open the lid/press spacebar and the computer sounds like it's waking up, the keyboard lights up, but the screen stays dark. I've tried waiting for up to 30 seconds before eventually I just hold the power button and hard reset. Upon restart, there is an error message stating that os x crashed. I haven't been able to let it sit for more than a minute or two, as it usually happens when I'm getting ready to give a presentation or something, fun right.

MacBook :: Waking Up From Sleep On Its Own After 10.5.5 Installed

I have a 2.4 Penryn black MacBook. It's been waking up on it's own, overheating and shutting down since I installed 10.5.7. This happened when I first got it, and I took it to Apple. At that time, seems the RAM wasn't seated properly. It hasn't been a problem again until now. Yesterday, it did it twice. The RAM seems to be seated properly. Is there a firmware update or something I'm missing?

OS X :: MacBook Keeps Waking Up - No Constant Sleep Mode

May 31, 2007

I'm using my Mac on an external monitor with a USB keyboard/mouse and the lid closed. When I put it to sleep using the remote, it switches off but then re-awakens about 5 seconds later. It's really annoying as it's usually when I'm in bed after watching a video and am too tired to get up and switch it off manually. How to make it sleep? Could it be the USB peripherals making it act this way? If so, how can I stop my Mac from waking on USB?

my air is rev B with SSD. when i open the lid to wake it up from the sleep, the mouse is freezing for couple of seconds and then back to normal.

it's not tthe whole OS freezing i believe, because ical event suddenly appears on the desktop when the mouse is freezing. so it's not the system i guess.

could it be the lack of voltage because of coolbook? but the system is so stable with these new lower voltages settings i applied a week ago.

MacBook Pro :: No Password Dialog Box After Waking Up From Sleep?

Sometimes when I let my MBP (see sig) go to sleep with the screen open, I come back and hit the spacebar to wake it up and it doesn't give me the password dialog box to wake it from sleep. All i see is a black screen with the mouse pointer on it. This sometimes happens when I wake and DO get the password box but if I wait and don't enter the password right away, the box disappears and wont come back. In both cases I'm forced to push the power button to shut it down and restart. Any solutions to this, or is it just a fluke?

MacBook Pro :: Waking Up From Sleep Mode - Reason OHC2?

Oct 29, 2008

10/29/08 8:33:11 AM kernel Wake reason = OHC2

Can someone please tell me what the OHC2 code means? I have no idea where to find the documentation on these codes. If I wake my computer up from sleep by pressing the power button, the Wake reason code is PWRB.

MacBook Pro :: Its Not Waking Up From Closed Clam-shell Sleep?

Feb 2, 2012

I've been having problems with my mid 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro 15" not waking up from sleep after I open the clamshell (screen) back up.  When I open the screen after letting it sit for a while, I can hear the HDD spinning up and the status light on the bottom of the MacBook turns off (like it normally does when the clamshell is opened), but the screen is black and there is absolutely no response in any key combinations or trackpad taps.  I've been having this problem for about a month now and its getting pretty annoying.  I've tried a total wipe of the disk and a fresh Lion install with a full TimeMachine restore, but I'm having absolutely no luck.  The only thing that can bring the MBP back to life is a hard restart.  Sometimes when I hard restart it, it comes back to life right where I let off (basically like when the battery loses all its juice and restores everything thats open), but most of the time, it starts up like a normal boot with no restore.

MacBook Pro :: Frequent Kernel Panics When Waking From Sleep?

Apr 19, 2012

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running the latest iteration of Lion. Recently, the computer has experienced frequent kernel panics (three today alone) requiring the laptop to be restarted. I have noticed that these tend to occur more frequently when I wake the computer after letting the battery drain down to near or below ten percent of its capacity and subsequently plugging it in after it goes to sleep.

The only other clue I have is that every time the computer experiences a kernel panic and restarts, Spotlight re-indexes my hard drive (i.e., the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right-hand corner of my screen has the little blinking red dot inside of it).

I have read a couple of things on the internet about how this may be due to Symantec Anti-Virus, which I have installed on my computer. However, that is pure speculation on my part based on a random post on a non-Apple-sponsored discussion board somewhere.

MacBook Pro :: Swiping Does Not Work On Touchpad After Waking From Sleep

Jul 4, 2012

Just about 45 mins ago, my touchpad started acting oddly after awaking my MacBook Pro from sleep. The cursor wont move when using the touchpad (sometimes it will nudge the cursor) and swiping isn't working either - but right and left clicking still seem to work using the touchpad - and it randomly right-clicks on things. I can use a wireless mouse and the keyboard is fine. It just started doing this, never had problems with it before. I've rebooted, zapped the PRAM, checked the touchpad settings, etc.

MacBook Air :: Black Screen With Cursor After Waking From Sleep

Aug 22, 2014

I just purchased a brand new macbook air this past week. I noticed within the first day of using that if my machine went into sleep mode, and I hit a key to take it out of sleep mode, it would go to a black screen with my cursor for about 30 seconds.

It does not do it every time but enough that it is annoying. I am coming from a mid 2011 mac air that did not have any issues. (only replaced for all day battery)

Do you think this a hardware or software issue? If i swap this mac out do you think I will just encounter the same thing?

I have read numerous posts regarding waking from sleep issues but they all seem to be affecting MacBooks purchased between 2012 and 2013.

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard Input Not Working After Waking From Sleep

Dec 2, 2014

Since installing Yosemite I'm seeing a random issue where, after waking my Macbook from sleep, keyboard input is not possible.  I can move the mouse using the trackpad, and applications all appear to be running as normal.  I can quit applications from the dock also using the trackpad.  When trying to type anything I get the 'bong' sound as if input is blocked. The only fix I've been able to find is either to ssh in from another machine and force a restart, or to force a power off using the power button.

I've tried searching the console logs and can't find anything relevant happening at the point this fails.  I've also considered that it could be any number of applications misbehaving, but having quit everything running that is visible in the dock, keyboard input still isn't possible.

MacBook Pro :: Unibody - Dell 2408WFP Waking From Sleep And Washed Out Screen

Apr 6, 2009

I bought a new unibody Macbook pro in December and have had it linked to a Dell 2408WFP for 4 months now (dell monitor as primary monitor, macbook as slave via apple mini displayport to DVI adapter) and I am also using the dell USB ports to hook up my apple wired keyboard and logitech revolution MX mouse. Problems occurring ever since the beginning include: Occasionally the computer refuses to wake up either screen. It may flash blue and look like its going to come out of sleep (or monitor shut off) with no problems but then hangs. This is intermittent and I cant seem to trouble shoot what causes it. On top of that, more frequently, the Macbook screen looks washed out (loss of colour depth). It doesnt flash and there are no blank/white areas of screen, just very poor colour depth. This can occur even coming out of screen saver mode. It seems to correct itself with time or disconnecting the dell monitor. Main programs I always leave open are Firefox +/- Transmission. Seems to happen regardless of programs being open or not. Have updated everything that Software Update can find to update. Anyone else having these problems or have any ideas how to fix?

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen After Waking Up From Sleep With Connected Dell Display?

Aug 17, 2009

I have a 2 month old 13" MBP which I absolutely love. The only hitch is that there is an oddity when connected to my Dell 2008wfp display. It only happens when I wake the MBP from sleep. A number of things happen sometimes. Usuaully, when I wake the MBP from sleep, i get a black screen on both displays and all I can see and control is the cursor. Sometimes the main display will be black, but the MBP display will show the desktop wallpaper, but again, I can only see and control the mouse cursor. It should also be worth mentioning that the keyboard is rendered non-functional as well.

Sometimes, OS X will appear on both displays, with mouse cursor active, keyboard inactive, but I am unable to click anything or interact with anything OS X.

Anyway, I'm at the point where I need to mention this because it happens quite frequently and its getting rather annoying. The only way I can get out of this hang, is to cold reboot the machine. It happens everyday and at least 50% of the time I wake the MBP from sleep. When not connected to the display, I never get this occurrence. Also, this display worked perfectly when I used to own the classic 15" MBP, so its hard for me to pinpoint what exactly is the anomaly that is happening.

Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I am using a mini display port to DVI adapter to the Dell display.
