I have a single processor G5 1.8 running current version of Tiger 10.4.11. I take pictures on my Canon 1D ll and also on a Canon power shot pro 1. When I tried to copy files from my compact flash card to my G5, it corrupted most of the files. When I pull them up, half of the image is distorted or discolored. I am using a cheap non-powered USB 2.0 card reader attached to the high speed USB ports. I have tried all of the ports. My other devices, Keyboard, printer, scanner (all self powered) work fine on the USB ports. I can do the same hookup on my G4 Ibook and it works fine with no problems. I also tried importing directly from the camera into I-photo and had the same problem on the G5.

I created a bootable usb drive on a windows pc using windows 7 to install windows 8 preview and want to make a copy to install in virtualbox on my imac and burn to a dvd that will work on pc.
I've tried using disk utility to create an image and get a file ESD-USB.dmg, but virtualbox won't boot a dmg file.
I tried converting it in the terminal with:
hdiutil convert -format UDRO -o windows8.iso ESD-USB.dmg
but the resulting file was windows8.iso.dmg. I changed the name to windows8.iso, but even so, virtualbox complains it's unbootable.
I tried the terminal command:
dd if=/dev/disk4 of=windows8.iso
but virtualbox complained that it's not bootable.
I tried the terminal command:
cat /dev/disk4 > windows8.iso
but virtualbox complained that it's not bootable.

I didn't really know what category to post this but I'm using a macbook so why not.
Mac's can't run -bat files created on a windows desktop. If I would o create a new one on a mac would the commands be different than the ones from windows? And to create a .bat file you need a .txt file. But you can't create that with TextEdit. What app to use?
My Macbook has been much slower than usual lately, and today it just stopped creating files. When I try and open Skype, it tells me it cannot create the users file, when i try to open itunes, it tells me it cannot create the itunes folder.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk. Verification came back okay. I'm now at a loss as for what to do. I can't download any new files (it tells me that I'm out of disk space, while I have 50 gb's free), so downloading anything to fix the problem won't work.
First post! I'm wondering what app out there will let me create self extracting zip files that can be used on all computers (ie Mac and PC).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 1GB flash drive..of which i've placed some iTunes formatted home movies in to hand to my dad who has a Windows XP laptop.
When this flash drive is connected to his laptop and I discover the flash drive on XP, and try to open it...nothing happens. Nothing opens. At best it says that in order to view the files in the flash drive that Windows XP needs to reformat the flash drive, but in the process it states that it will have to erase all content and data to do so..
So now i'm wondering how can I transfer these movie files from my MBP to his Windows XP laptop.?
I've only tried this on flash drives and really hope it wouldn't be the same situation if I used my external hard drive instead; as in connecting my external HD which had a ton more home movies, connect it to his laptop and hopefully it showing up... My external HD isn't running Time Machine or anything like that, it's just a clean External HD where I throw in a lot of home movies...
I'm not sure if this is the right section. I'm looking for location of flash temp files on SL. I'm running latest version of flash and safari.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTitle says it all. Basically, I reformatted my new flash drive to MS-DOS (which I think/suspect it was already) and files copied onto the flash drive become much larger. For example, a 275 megabyte folder full of images turned into a 425 megabyte folder-even when dragged off the flash drive.
What could cause this? I do suspect that it's a labeling error, as the file doesn't act like it's gained size.
I don't know how to delete truly files from my flash drive. Whenever I press cmd+backspace or simply drag file to trash, it doesn't delete fully, i.e., space available doesn't increase on flash drive, the icon just disappears. When I plug it in using Windows, I can see .Trash and .Spotlight<something> folders which are hidden. In .Trash I see my deleted files, but how the heck can I really delete them off my flash drive? I often just copy all my content to hard drive, format flash drive and then copy back my content.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI went to use my flash drive to open some old files (which were created on a pc, Word) to see if I wanted to delete them, opened several files with Word using Windows for Mac, closed out the files, went to reopen them and couldn't. The size of the files went down to zero KB after opening. I had tried to move several to the trash but I got an "error -43" code. I can't figure out why this is happening. No idea where to start.

For years I've used iTunes' "Create AAC version" .mp3 to .m4a feature in the advanced menu, primarily to reduce the file size of my many thousand mp3 songs.
Since the latest update to iTunes, whenever I do this now, the AAC version file size created by iTunes get larger, and makes the .m4a significantly bigger than an .mp3.
I understood the very point of an AAC/.m4a was to be a smaller sized file of an equivilent .mp3 while keeping a similar quality.
I know large artwork affects the file size, but this still happens regardless of artwork.
Does anyone know what's changed re this feature in this latest update?
So I've used TubeTV [URL] to download Youtube videos, and would like to edit in iMovie, but it doesn't support .fvl (I think is the file suffix).
Does anyone know of a free option for converting them to an appropriate format?
