OS X :: Snow Leopard Installation On MBA / Installing Using The Remote Disk Feature?
Aug 25, 2009I purchased a copy of SL that I want to install on my MBA. I know that Leopard can be installed using the remote disk feature since my MBA doesn't have a DVD drive. problem is that I can't find anywhere saying that SL will support that function. Although I did see that the minimum system requirements require a DVD drive, but it doesn't say anything about a remote drive.
I'm sure it would be stupid if it wasn't supported, but then again you can't installed XP without the SuperDrive.
OS X :: Login Keychain Password Removing?
Mar 2, 2009Ever since I got my macbook, I've been trying to get everything in sync between it and my imac using mobile me. I had a lot of trouble with saved passwords and other things not syncing so I deleted both keychains and started over fresh. Now everytime I log on to either my imac or mac book I'mn asked for a password to access my keychain.
How can I disable this? Have a made a mistake somewhere in all this configuring? I've never really messed with keychain so I really didn't know what I was doing.

Software :: Login Items - Crash When Removing
Dec 30, 2009I've got some login items that who-knows-where-I-got'em, but I do and I can't get rid of them.
Their item and kind are \\\ and unknown. When I mouse over them to see their resident folder, I get a yellow sticky of \\ ad nauseum.
And when I try to remove them, El-KaBong. A soft restart back to the login window.
Tried just an A&I of the system, hoping it would fix the problem, but no such luck.
Other than that, it runs just fine. Is this an issue?

OS X :: Remote Login Not Starting?
Oct 7, 2009On Leopard, Remote Login won't start. It's stuck on "Starting remote login...". If I reboot, it says Remote Login is off, and I go through the same process.
Is there any way I can fix this or totall reset SSH? I tried deleting all of the SSH files in /etc and ~/.ssh.

I recently had a Onelan Digital Signage system installed which I can access whilst I'm at school via an IP address through a browser to edit and update contents, however this does not work outside the school. On the macs Apple Remote Desktop is enable and I can use it to remotely access Macs within school through Remote Desktop 3. I would like to access my Mac (at school) through my Windows PC at home so I can login to the digital signage system.

Jun 6, 2009I have both Remote Login and Web Sharing enabled on my Leopard Macbook. When I try to SSH to it (from the same network) it just hangs, without ever asking for a password. Web Sharing says it can't find the host, even from on the Macbook itself.
For the record, Screen Sharing and File Sharing are working fine.
Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

The pc is in my truck and I would like to be able to log into my Imac to access emails and files. The problem is that when I used [URL] I could not read what was on the 12x12 screen. OS X Mavericks :: Remote Login Not Working
Jun 19, 2014I'm attempting to log in to my MacBook remotely using ssh, and it isn't working. I've looked all over the internet for a solution, and I haven't found one, although iI think I've determined that other people are having this same problem after upgrading to Mavericks. I did recently upgrade this MacBook to Mavericks, but I never tried remotely logging in prior to upgrading, so I don't know if Mavericks is the problem in my case.
I'm using a mid-2010 13-inch MacBook, which I've recently upgraded to OS 10.9.3. I have not set up a static IP address with my ISP. My firewall is currently disabled. I've gone to System Preferences -> Sharing, checked "Remote Login," and selected "Allow Access" for "All users". I then note the IP address listed, where it says "To log in to this computer remotely, type "ssh myusername@1.2.3.4" (obviously, I made up that user name and IP address).
If I then open up a terminal window on my local machine and type "ssh myusername@1.2.3.4", I am indeed able to log in using my password. However, if I ssh out to a remote machine somewhere else, and then attempt to ssh back in again, it doesn't work. Specifically, I am prompted for a password, but when I type the correct password, I'm just prompted for a password again. So I type the correct password again. But then, without even so much as an "incorrect password" message, I'm booted right out for excessive failed login attempts.
I notice that each time I check the "Remote Login" check box, which I believe starts the sshd daemon, that action generates four error messages in /var/log/system.log, all of which have this form:

Mar 1, 2012Apple writes in its OS X Lion screen sharing description that: "You can remotely log in to a Mac with any user account on that computer and control it, without interrupting someone else who might be using the computer under a different login."
Unfortunately, this is not true in my case: When other users are using my 2011 iMac for webbrowsing or DVD watching and I log in on my own acount from my macbook pro, video will stop playing, the spinning wheel sometime appears. The system does not really crash, but wil respond very slowly and in fact is not useable until I as remote user stop my activities or log out. This is not how it should be, especially as the iMac's CPU, memory and network load are very low according to activity monitor's information.

MacBook Pro :: Removing Underside Of MBP 17 - Pop Sound When Removing On Cover Normal?
Jun 30, 2010as an extension to my question regarding RAM utilization, I've decided to upgrade my RAM. I went through the process of removing the underside of my MBP. After taking the screws out and mentally marking which slot they came out of (some are of different size), I pulled the lid up at the black trim area (the "neck" of the display mount) as this was the easiest way to get a non-damaging grip on the metal underside -- read: I avoided using a screw driver on the lid. As I started to lift, I was surprised at the amount of force I needed to use in order to remove the lid; something near the center of the cover was still holding the lid to the underside of the body. In fact, the amount of force I needed to use made me pause to question if I missed an important step other than simply removing the screws. I decided to "go for it" and applied more pressure while pulling the lid up and away from the body and heard a "pop" noise.

Jun 20, 2008Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

Jan 6, 2009I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.
The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.
Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!
So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.
The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?

Apr 15, 2010G4 MDD networked with Mini for approx. 3 years now via a LinkSys BEFSR41 wired router. Ethernet cables are CAT6's with gold-plated ends. Did an erase/install (+ updates) of Panther on G4. ISP is Comcast Cable. Just upgraded my Motorola modem from Surfboard 5100 to SB 5101 yesterday. My network settings are ok...file sharing is turned on...I can ping each 'puter from the other (showing my connection is good).
I have internet access (showing that the router is still good according to Cisco). Now, however, I can't even bring up the window on the G4 asking for my pw....all I get is connection failed, no response from the server. From the Mini, I get Unknown User, incorrect password or login is disabled. I haven't a clue what the problem can be. Everything I do daily depends upon the network connection.

Oct 20, 2010i ve recently activated the default guest account in leopard. However even though when I check in the accounts.prefpane it says that it is on and its 'login only' and when I click on the account it says 'allow guests to login into this computer' and its on.
However when I boot up my machine and click on the guest icon, it wont let me in as it shakes the menu(login failed).

I don't have the disks any more so I cant use them for reloading the software. I want to sell the laptop so i just want to format the HD. Is it possible to format from command lines?

Jul 28, 2008I have an iMac G5 1.8Ghz and Today when I logged in, it just froze on the apple OS X background. I waited 2 minutes, and nothing happened. It was weird because it's the first time it happened. Anyway, I turned the iMac off and re-tried. It did the exact same thing. So I turned it off, unplugged everything, waited around a minute, plugged it all back in, and it worked fine.
But yeah, just trying to work out why it would do that... because this is going to my brother and I don't want it to just crash when I give it to him.

It is about 10 lines long. We put it in, and on reboot it covers the login boxes for user name and password. We can't find any way to dismiss the banner and login. What can we do.

OS X Mavericks :: Use Wireless To Login To AD Domain At Login
Jun 25, 2014OS X Maverick (10.9.3)..I have an iMac I need to have the user at the login window, log into AD. The iMac does not have an operable ethernet port. I suspect the iMac is old enough, the thunderbolt port is video only, since a known working thunderbolt to ethernet adapter did not connect (I think the iMac is Mid 2011 and I suspect the iMac is out of warranty). Wireless works fine, and I have made the iMac a member of the domain using the private network, after logging in locally. I cannot create the user's mobile account, because I need to have the iMac use wireless at login, connecting to the private network, at login.
Is there a way to have the login process use wireless to initiate the login for the mobile account and creation of said account?I know there is a way to do this under Windows, just hope there is a way under OS X.
