Software :: Internal HD Won't Load Mac OS X Leopard?

Aug 10, 2009

I have had Tiger for a few years now, So i finally decided to upgrade and bought Leopard 10.5 from an online website, I installed it on my mac and when i try to boot it up on my internal harddrive (where i installed it) all it does is just boot up.. go to a blue screen for 2-3 seconds and then it alternates between a black and brown screen with a beachball as the cursor.. So i've tried to reinstall and all that stuff and i even partitioned and installed it on my External 1T harddrive that i just bought and i am now booted up on that.. When i installed it on my 1T all that happened during bootup was a short delay at the blue screen 2-3 seconds.. and then the brown screen came up followed by a black screen which lead me to the welcome video/intro type thing. I've tried running the machine on my internal harddrive for several minutes but that did not provide any results either. I've tried to repair permissions, repair disk, erase and install all that stuff. The HD "appears to be okay" so i don't know what to do anymore... I have also tried to delete certain files such as the application enhancer files and that has also failed.

OS X :: Leopard Install From Internal Drive?

May 9, 2009

Basically I have a copy of the OS X 10.5 DVD's that came with my Mac saved on a separate partition of my hard drive in my MBP. I am currently having a few problems and want to do an fresh install from this partition. Is there anyway to get the DMG image bootable?

I hold down the option key whilst restarting and it sees the partition but it won't boot. I even tried a restore from disk utility; still nothing.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Best Way To Transfer To New Internal HDD?

Jun 17, 2012

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my Mac Pro and also backup using Time Machine. My main (startup) hard drive is close to failing-- before it does I want to transfer everything to a new internal drive. Seems to be there are several ways to do this:

1. Clone the original drive to the newer drive with 3rd party software (such as ChronoSync?)
2. Restore to the new HDD from Time Machine (which I believe requires me to clean install Snow Leopard on the new drive?)
3. Use Migration Assistant.

Which would be the best route?

Windows On Mac :: Can I Load Snow Leopard From My HDD

Dec 20, 2010

I copied my disc onto my hard drive when I first installed OS X [made a 10GB partition in DiskUtility] incase I needed the disc and wasn't at home.

Well, I don't have my disc, and won't have access to it for another week. I'm trying to set up a triple boot with OSX, Ubuntu, and W7. Can I load the Snow Leopard install DVD from that partition in my hard drive, while running Windows 7?

Software :: Trying To Load Leopard (10.5) On G4 Notebook?

Apr 25, 2008

Does anyone know if I can load Leopard on my notebook - it is currently running 10.3.9 - it has a 1.33 processor - according to what I found in the leopard info it should work but I tried for over 8 hrs yesterday - and all it does is sit there and spin with the little color wheel - I am getting very frustrated - I started all of this because my wife bought me an Ipod touch - which after several hours I figured out was useless without a system upgrade - so I decided after spending the money for Leopard I might as well upgrade to an Iphone instead of just the ipod - but now I am regretting it all - $460+ for a phone and case and $129 for the system that as of yet still doesn't work and I talked with the guy who usually upgrade my macs and he said 2 hrs per machine at $95/hr to load the upgrade and ooh yeah make sure your whole computer is backed up because leopard has been known to wipe everything out?

OS X V10.4 :: 10.4.11 Upgrading To Snow Leopard / DVD Won't Load

Apr 2, 2012

I could use a bit of help updating my macbook from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. I have 10.4.11 and i'm updating to 10.6, Snow Leopard. I've already checked basic requirements, backed up and i'm ready to install.I chatted with a apple specialist when I purchased the dvd for snow leopard and asked if it was what i needed to upgrade all three of my macs; 2 running 10.5.8 and one running 10.4.11. They said yes. I had no trouble updating the machines running 10.5.8.But the one running 10.4.11 isn't so easy. The trouble is the install DVD will not boot and just shuts down the hard drives (the machine says 'restartto begin install' but when i restart the dvd spits out on restart). Does anyone know how to get the disk to install? Mounting the disk didnt work either, it allows me to begin the installation but then the machine reboots.

I'd done some research previously and was told by Apple that i needed to get the Box Set in order to upgrade my machine running 10.4.11. However according to apple's support forums url... the Snow Leopard upgrade should work. I just don't know if there are special steps.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Startup With An Internal Drive

Mar 25, 2012

One morning my Mac Mini would not startup, it would try to start up but after about 2 minutes the Apple would turn to the circle with a diagonal line through it.  Fortunately I had installed Snow Leopard on my external Firewire 800 drive so I could startup from that drive. My internal drive now will not mount when starting from my external drive until I rebuild the drive using Drive Genesis and then run Volume Structures with Tech Tool V5.0.  No other combination of utilities seems to work to make it mount.  Not sure if that would makes sense to anyone that might know what is wrong and how to fix it so I could startup from my internal drive.

I have also tried to reinstall Snow Leopard but when starting from the install DVD the internal drive does not show up as an option for installation.  I am trying to startup at least one last time from my internal drive since I have a Filemaker Pro 7 database which I have forgotten the password for but when starting up from my internal drive it opens since the password is stored in Snow Leopard.  I have found programs using Windows to change or extract the FM7 password but I am trying not to spend the $30 to $40 for a program I will only use once.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Reload OS On Different Internal Hard Drive?

Apr 28, 2012

I have a Power Mac G4 (Mirror Front) and am currently running Leopard (10.5.8) on it. It came with a 20 GB HD and I have added a 250 GB HD to it. What I would like to do is transfer the OS over to the 250 GB drive. I've seen some posts that talk about cloning software. Is that the best way or could I some how reload the OS on the bigger drive and remove or make the smaller drive a slave.

OS X :: Won't Load Leopard / Showing Blank Screen

Feb 12, 2009

So, I have a new MBP. I bought a 500gb drive to swap out with the 250gb drive. I did make a time machine backup, I have formatted the 500gb drive to be bootable etc.

However, I was hoping to do a fresh install and pick and choose what I moved over from Time Machine. So with the blank drive in the MBP, I have tried 2 different OS X discs. 1 that came with the MBP, and the upgrade disc I bought for my MacBook (in case the discs somehow behave differently)

Holding down C on restart does nothing in most cases. Holding down Option tends to get my pointer on screen allowing me to select the DVD, then it goes off and sounds like the DVD is seeking/running, and the screen alternates from it's blue and black, like its doing reboots without loading. That has gone on for a long time with no new messages/errors/status/reason for me to believe anything is actually happening.

My question is this....what am I not doing right, or what can I do different, so that a blank HDD can load Leopard? I'd rather not clone or load off of time machine, just never loved the image I have, wanted a fresh start.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Load On An Empty Partition

Jul 5, 2012

In February I bought a new Mac Book Pro that came loaded with OS X Lion.  I want to run Final Cut Pro on it.  I bought FCP on ebay but can't load it because it is a PowerPC app and Lion won't load it.

I added a partition to my hard drive to load Snow Leopard, bought SL online and am trying to install SL.

If I try to run the install app from within Lion I get this message:  "You can't use this version of the application install Mac OX X.app with this version of Mac OS X."  Then in small print this:  "You have Install Mac OS X.app 23.1"

If I try to boot from the SL Install DVD I get this message:  "You need to restart your computer.  Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."  I do this and it always comes back to this same message.

I tried booting to the Recovery HD but can't get that to allow anything either.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Sharing Files On A Second Internal Hard Drive

Mar 20, 2012

I have a G5 with two hard drives and would like to store photos and music on the second hard drive, accessible to the G5, my MacBook Pro, and Apple TV. I do have a system installed on it to boot from if necessary, but for the most part it's just a second internal data drive. I thought it would be best to put the files on it here:

/Users/Shared/Music
/Users/Shared/Pictures

I'm finding that I can't just move and rename any photo from either computer, but sometimes there are permission restrictions, even though the Get Info window shows permissions on the files and folders are wide open. What's the best location for fully shared files? The root level of the second drive?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Reload To Internal Drive / Unbootable

Mar 30, 2012

Made a few missteps while cloning my drive to an external destination.I need to get my internal drive reloaded. Preferrably with a clone BACK. I keep getting kernel panics & cannot boot from what I have managed to clone back.cloned my drive (formatted SL X.6.8) to an external USB (yes, its a tad slow) in order to test drive my applications on Lion. This was done using Intego's Personal Backup. The backup wound up being unjournaled.Made a stupid mistake allowing the internal drive to be optimized by TechTool (it was journaled).I assume this could be the first cause of my problem.Since that internal partition would not boot any longer & the icon would not show, I used Disk Utility to repair the volume. The volume is a partition on my internal drive. The second partition is formatted for Windows. that's intact. After repairing, the icon is back.Apparently you can only back up Time Machine back to the original drive FROM the original drive (?). AlthoughI am not very recent in Time Machine backups, having turned it off a few weeks ago anyway.I then tried to clone BACK to the internal using CCC. It seems to have put the folders back.On start up I have the options of External clone (not the actual name), Windows partition, or "EFI" which may not be theinternal, rather a TechTool Boot of some sort.I'm going to try & retrace the same step - of clearing that internal partition & try to load a clone from the external clone one more time,to see if it becomes bootable.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Delete A Load Of Disk Permissions?

Mar 29, 2012

I would like to delete a load of disk permissions. They are continually needing to be repaired and I don't recognize any of the names of the apps, and if I do, I would prefer to uninstall them.

Is this crazy? The main reason is that I am using drive genius 3 which continually monitors the health of the drive using 'drive pulse'. It comes up with 'critical' repairs needed each day and they are the same ones so I would prefer to just ditch them if possible?

Also, what I would really like to know is how I can use the command line to 'batch' delete these suckers.
