Jul 10, 2008Looking for a way to lock ichat preferences. Basically, my children are turning of the automatic chat trascription, and I want it on. Would like to know how to lock this in place.

OS X :: IMac G4 / Leopard - System Preferences Lock
Mar 1, 2009I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?

Mar 27, 2009I am attempting to access my iChat preferences to add a GTalk account. When I go to iChat->Preferences and click, I am taken immediately to the Audio/Video preferences, where I see the video of myself, bluetooth setup, etc.
I can not figure out how to get back from here to my normal iChat preferences, or how to open my iChat preferences normally.

Jul 10, 2009I have a belgian azerty keyboard and OS X in english on my white macbook. Is it possible to change the caps lock key's function to shift lock so that it affects the whole keyboard rather than just the letters? I'd like to be able to type numbers without holding shift.

Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

Feb 4, 2008I recently bought a replacement keyboard on ebay for my MBP and just installed it. It's been about a week, and just today, I noticed the capslock key doesn't work.. I'm not sure if it has been this way, or if it recently just stopped. The light doesn't come on at all.
I was curious if this was a common problem? If not, is their anything I can do as a substitute for caps lock? Another key perhaps? Or, a button on the task bar or something?

OS X :: Unable To Set Network Preferences / Network Preferences Changed By Another Application
Aug 14, 2009I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a "pod" iMAC. When I open system preferences and click on network, I get a pop up window that states my network preferences have been changed by another application. When I click on the green "OK" box the pop up goes away and comes right back. This is driving me crazy because when it gets into this cycle it's almost impossible to get out of the preferences panel or even check the settings! It's like it gets into a closed loop and won't let you do anything.

I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.

MacBook :: Internet Says Have Internet But Wont Connect - Cannot Open System Preferences Or Internet Preferences
May 10, 2009I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mar 1, 2009I just bought my first mac. IMac 20" 4gb ram "aso". I am trying to install Combined Mac os X - update. 10.5.6. (Thats atleast the name for it Directly transformed from norwegian to english) and when i try to run the update it ask me to reboot. I press reboot and it closes all of my programs and the update starts installing , but the progress bar stops when its like 20% finished, I've been waiting for 12 hours and still no progress.
