There are times when I drag and drop or copy an article into a MacMail message to be forwarded. If there are URLs in the article, they are not copied as such. I can go to Mail edit and use "add hyperlink" for each - one at a time, but if there are quite a few URLs, this process becomes an onerous task. Does anyone know how to copy an article (or whatever) and have the URLs copy as such?
(I've searched for other reports of this, but didn't come up with anything...)
I am running Fx v1.5 on a Mac with OSX 14.3.
When I want to email the URL of a webpage from Firefox, I click on File=>Send Link... which opens up Mail and pastes the entire URL into the body of the email. Everything looks okay on my end.
However, when the recipient receives the email, invariably the URL they receive is "broken" (with a seemingly randomly-inserted space) and does not function. This seems to not happen with short URLs
Here's the troubleshooting I've done:
[1] If I send the link to myself it works fine when I open it (with Mail).
[2] If I manually copy the link (from the Address Bar) and paste it into a email message, it still ends up being broken.
[3] If I use Safari's "send URL" function for the same webpage, it works.
[4] If I manually copy-and-paste the URL from Safari's address bar, it ends up being broken.
[5] If I "edit link" in Mail to something like "Check this out" (and then paste the URL into the edit box), it works fine.
So, evidently, this is some sort of bug in the way Mail handles long URLs. Is this a known issue?
I realize I could just use Safari, but I like Firefox and all its extensions better....
It works perfectly on my Mac that does not have Lion or iCloud but not on the one I upgraded.I have 3 options for Outgoing Mail Server:
-smtp.mac.com: says offline
-smtp.me.com: is fine
-iCloud (Cloud): is fine
i have tried all 3 and I still have no connection to the internet. you can be sure I do have internet because I am here writing this now.I have tried deleting and restoring within Mail pref's and System Pref > iCloud and still no luck. (I have restarted as well)As I said, it works fine on all my other computers that are still MobileMe and 10.6+.
As of three days ago, pictures arriving in MacMail have not been showing up. Instead, there are small blue boxes with a question mark inside. Does anyone know what happened or what I did to cause this or what I can do to get the pictures to show up?
Is it possible to add Alias "From" addresses with MacMail? I would like to add a few and cannot seem to locate how to do so, other then to add "fake" accounts. Is there built in functionality for MacMail to achieve this?
I'm brand new to the Mac world, so please excuse me if I'm missing something simple or if I don't give all the necessary information.
I'm using a MacBook Pro and running Mac OS X 10.5.6
I set up macmail and used it successfully for 2-3 days. All of a sudden I stopped receiving some of my emails. I didn't realize it for 2 days, since I was still receiving some emails. My husband mentioned sending me one I hadn't received, which is when I realized the problem. I checked my old machine which is still running Windows and Outlook and the messages were all there. I've looked through some forums, but can't find anyone with the same situation. It seems everyone is either receiving all or none.
I can't find a commonality between the messages I'm not receiving. I've tried Connection Doctor which reports everything is normal.
I am getting absolutely tired of writing my own email dozens of times per day. There must be some way I can type my address once and then, each time I need to insert it I need only type a combination of a very small number of keys.
This is a recent issue I've been having. Mail pops in to my inbox, and for a time the little blue 'unread' icon is there. Then after a while is seems to disappear and it looks like i've read the message when I actually haven't.This obviously has potential issues as I could easily miss a message.
I tried to send a few large file emails, one of which I aborted midstream. Now, when I try to get mail, MacMail keeps trying and succeeding to recover that same file over and over again. It's hung up in this cycle and I cannot receive emails into my inbox as a result.
I have osx tiger - how on earth do i copy a music CD to a blank? am i being dumb? i can't see anywhere how to do it. i donloaded simplyBurns, but the option is greyed out, and disk utility can't seem to help me. I dont have toast, but surely it should be easier than that?
atm im importing to itunes, then burning. VERY long winded.
I get the above error when I try to copy my music folder (not the iTunes folder) to another hard drive. Both drives are formated Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Its about 130gb of data.
I backed up all my data onto a couple of DVDs before formatting and upgrading my ststem but now, when trying to copy this data back I am getting the error message. The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "filenamehere" can't be read or written. (Error code -36). I have looked for ages to try and find a solution for this, but there does not seem to be one when copying from a DVD.
im new to Mac and stick in a problem that cant solve it,and i need consulti work for a company that try to create a package that consist most popular Mac Application such as ILife,IWork, etc. This package is for Internal use and must have security layers on it that protect the DVD's from copying,Imaging and some thing like this.i want to do it by software and software locks but i dont know what can i do coz i dont know how to do it in Mac.
I can rule out the home network for this job - way too slow, even at wireless-G speeds. Therefore, I'm going to be using an external Firewire 400 HDD to do the copy. I've already copied the data on the source Mac to the drive. How long will I have to wait for the copy job to complete (ignoring time spent setting up the drive and getting its cables moved/connected)? The destination Mac runs Snow Leopard, and supports Firewire 400. The source Mac runs Tiger, and is PowerPC-based (it's a Rev C iMac G5, with its memory upgraded to 2.5 GB and HDD upgraded to 320 GB), if that makes any difference - it's limited to FireWire 400 only, and lacks a FW 800 port.
I have searched the forums for help on cloning a DATA dvd (or Cd for that matter) but so far all i have found is info on copying movie dvd's...I am looking for a program that will let me clone a Program DVD that I have to make a backup copy. Can anyone suggest a good program?
I tried using the Disk Utility but once it ripped it the image was over 6 gigs and I can't figure out how to burn it to a new disk...do I compress it as if it were a media dvd?is there a program that will rip the data to an image that is already compressed?
I think its the move to Unix-framework that has changed my opinion of the mac OS) and have just bought a MyBookWorld network drive to dump all my media on which is currently on my macbook unibody. Ok, so I know its a pretty crappy product... copying is agonizingly sloooow and is always falling over. I have been trying to enter terminal and use the cp command to copy, hoping I can set it off before sodding off on a long weekend and returning to find the job done. However, I have not managed it yet.
I cannot get the syntax right when trying to copy to the shared MyBookWorld drive. I have no idea about how to locate directories. In windows I could say, for example, C:/users/robsa/my docs/media/tv/the simpsons or whatever, but I have no idea how to do it in OSX. Also, ditto accessing the MyBookWorld directories which I see in 'SHARED' in finder. Again, in windows it would be something like //MyBookWorld/Media/TV/... and so on. I have tried all sorts of different things but nothing works.............
I typically use handbrake to rip my DVDs, but as far as I know, I can only create AVI's and MKV's from Handbrake (correct me if I'm wrong). I also really like having the VIDEO_TS file intact on my computer, so that I can still access the DVD's menus, special features, etc. Sometimes I am able to just copy the VIDEO_TS file directly off the DVD to my desktop, but sometimes it says that I "do not have the permissions" to do so.... or something along those lines. I understand that most DVDs are protected so you can't just copy them, but it seems that my computer allows me to copy the VIDEO_TS sometimes and not others. And this is with the SAME DVD.
When backing up files to an external drive, I end up overwriting the older versions of files that were previously backed up. Is there a way to copy files from one place to another, but just have files that have been changed to update?
Kind of like how Time Machine or Drop Box works. It just senses changed files and overwrites those, but doesn't recopy unchanged files.
I ahve June 2009 UMBP running Snow Leopard. Can someone give me an idiots step by step guide on how I can make a copy of the photo's in my iphoto collection and put them on a blank DVD? I have tried copy & paste but this leaves a small "tick" at the bottom corner of each pic and I am not sure what this means?
I am trying to move some files from an x86 machine to a ppc machine. Both are running Mac OS X 10.4 The files have some extended attributes set for them.
Hence, I used the tar utlity to create an archive and then moved the archive.
However, the file data is moved correctly but all the extended attributes are lost Why is this?
I learnt that all extended attributes are stored in the resource fork.
Both the machines have the HFS+ filesystem.
Hence, even the resource forks must get copied right?
