Software :: Adobe CS4 Running On A G4 Powermac?

do any of you have CS4 running on a G4 Powermac? I want to buy CS4 but I have no intentions of buying a G5. Someone told me that he use Photoshop CS4 on his G4 with no problem. I do not want to buy the entire Suite and then end up getting stuck being unable to use it. On the box says G5 Intel is recommende

I am running a PowerMac Dual 2.0 G5 with the latest updated version of Tiger. I have maxed out the RAM to 8GB and upgraded the original video card to support my 30" display. I use a helper applications called "Free RAM". This program basically calculates what RAM you have available.
I am a graphic designer and need to run Quark Xpress 7, InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator (CS4 with latest updates) simultaneously. On top of these 4 I also run Mail, Safari, Acrobat Professional, Extensis Suitcase X and iBiz (time management). These programs are all running all the time.
After launch and all apps running, everything is great. I have 2.95 GB of RAM still free (Free RAM). As the day goes by, and I have opened and closed numerous files this amount of free RAM dwindles and eventually I am left with 96 mb of RAM just before the CPU says "Enough is enough!" and everything grinds to a halt. Now previously I was running CS2 and I never ran into this issue. The problem started when I upgraded to CS3. Now with CS4 I am seeing the issue almost daily.
Now comes the question... Is the issue simply outdated hardware? Or, do I have a software issue.I am afraid to purchase a new CPU in the attempts to remedy this problem. If, in fact it is only a software issue. I find it strange that after a restart I have almost 3GB of RAM available. And yet as the day goes by I run out of RAM. I understand that as I open files more RAM will be used to support the open file. However, after the file is closed the RAM should free-up and be available again.

I'm on a Mac OS X, version 10.6.3. Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm a graphic designer so I always have Photoshop CS4 & InDesign CS4 running simultaneously 8 hours a day. (Firefox 3.6.3 is also running). Never had a problem until recently - the screen would suddenly turn WHITE, or BLUE w/ VERTICAL STRIPES. Then I have to reboot.
I had 3 crashes today. I did notice when I was scrolling w/ my (sorta old & ghetto Kensington mouse) that it froze the iMac twice. IS THERE A PATCH, OR SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THIS? Anyone else having similar crashes?

I am poised to make the change from PC to Mac. However, I have a decision to make. I am currently running a 3ghz QUAD core, 8gb RAM with Windows Vista. The system runs well (yes, even though it is Windows) but I wish to move to Mac and ditch the Windows world. I plan to use Logic Pro so need a Mac. I have 2 x 24" monitors that set me back 700. I was thinking to keep those and perhaps buy a Mini Mac. The mini Mac can support 2x displays.
My big question is this: If I went for the 2.66Ghz Intel Duo Core Mini Mac with 8gb RAM, would this tun Logic Pro without any problems? Would it also run software like Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / Premiere without hanging or being very slow? Who has a mini Mac and currently has these softwares installed? Please advise? Should I simply sell everything and go for an iMac?

I have done alot of research. I have never owned a mac. I haven't used on since I graduated from school 5-6 years ago for graphics. I have no desire if I do get one to boot xp on it I find the mac os to look more clean(yeah if that makes since) My current laptop is a sony vaio. I mean I know its not strong enough to handle the adobe programs, I can barely run flash cs4 and photoshop cs4 at the same time. My specs on my current sony vaio which I got like 2 and a half years ago is 0.99 gigs of ram/1.60 ghz/ginuwine intel (r) cpu. I know its nothing compared to today and with more work from clients I need something that can handle running at least 5 of the adobe programs at the same time with the internet browser opened and maybe a mp3 player like jet audio playing some tunes to get some serious work done occasional video editing but nothing too crazy..

I am going to be purchasing Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium (Photoshop, Acrobat, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc) shortly but want to make sure I have enough horsepower to be able to run it. Ideally, I'd like to have this on my laptop so the program can be portable, but at the same time I don't want to be hauling around 10 pounds of equipment with me.
So I'm looking at the MacBook pro 13" and am wondering if the 2.53 GHz, 4 GB of memory, and the 250 GB drive is enough power to be able to run CS4. I like the idea of a 13" as it's lighter to carry around, but when I look at the 15" version it looks like I can get a bit more processor and drive space, but more importantly it looks like the graphics are a bit better as well. I'm just trying to ascertain whether the graphics card on the 13" version will be an inhibiting factor to using CS4 Design Premium.

There is a Powermac G5 available in my area for $450. Its a dual core 2.3 and a nvidia GeForce 6600 and he is including a 20 inch ACD. I don't know if its a great deal, but I think it would be great, because I could build something wild in that case later.

I recently bought a PowerMac G4 1.42GHz Dual Processor. It has 2 gigs of RAM on it. It was a fair deal I think. The "thing" is still looking like new and shiny. Even the insides are still tidy and intact. My question is, would I still be able to pump more juice from this beast. It still run fast comparable to some decent windoze box. Up to how much processor can i be able to squeeze out the CPU and if possible, how to?

I have a G4 Power Mac. It's the "digital audio" model that has been upgraded with a 1.2Ghz G4 processor. It works well except for one thing. It shuts down randomly and suddenly. Then after 5 or 10 minutes it turns itself back on, reboots and runs fine. (It is set to re-boot after a power failure.)I suspect what is happing is the power supply is turnning itself off due to some kind of a thermal, self protection switch. The fan seems to work but the PS gets warm. What's the cure? Replace the power supply? If so where to get a new(er) one?

I have a G4 PowerMac that will not boot up. I power up the computer and it stalls on a grey screen with text prompting me to type <<boot>> if you wish to continue...or something like that. Does anyone have any advice on how I might troubleshoot this? The computer was working fine for a few days before this occured. It has been unused and sitting is storage for a while.

I have a PowerMac G5 dual 1.8ghz running leopard. It worked flawlessly since the day I bought it.
Then as of last week whenever I booted the computer I would get the gray screen with a black box saying to reboot the computer (in 5 different languages). I would reboot the computer. Same screen.
Is there some way to check what is wrong? Is this typically a hardware issue or an operating system?

I was installing Tiger using FireWire from my Powermac G4 and it was nearly done when my Powerbook (target) died due to lack of battery... When the Powermac was rebooted, I get only a question mark and flashing smile.
I tried to test the C and T keys holding them down during boot up but only get the smiley face every single time... I even disconnected the secondary drive to no avail.

Please could you help me with this problem that i've got with my Powermac G5.
Spec is
Dual G5
2gb ram
I'm trying to boot from the Mac OS cd (tried 10.4 that it came with and 10.5) and both get to the grey screen with the Apple Logo and that's as far as it gets. No spinning loading wheel.
Tried the following..
PRAM reset
Swapping Ram out
Is there anything else i can do. It's a really good machine so i hope it's not needing a Logic Board repair!

Currently it is almost entirely unresponsive. I came to wake it from sleep a few days ago and it refused to wake. It is totally unresponsive to the power button on the Apple Cinema display and when the power button on the front of the tower is used the button lights up blue and then goes out. There is no fan activity or other sign of life. There is no burned oder or evidence of anything charred. It is a dual 1.42 MDD FW800 machine with AGP graphics. Model: M8570So far I have:
-Removed and reseated the graphics card, RAM and other PCI cards.
-Removed battery and let it sit unplugged over night.
-Performed PMU reset. (once)
At this point I have come to believe the power supply needs to be replaced. it is model: 614-0224 (360w). After looking online they are stupidly expensive, from $180 to over $500 each. I will be ordering a new MB (PRAM?) battery (Saft 3.6v LS14250C) and replacing that as well.
Questions:
- Have I missed anything here? Is there any other explanation or method of troubleshooting I should try?
- Is there any cheaper source for the power supplies? Why are they so absurdly expensive? Does anyone here want to give me a sweetheart deal on one?
- Can anyone recommend a source for the LS14250C battery locally in Manhattan? Radioshack has it as an online only item and wants $15 for it.

Hey all, so Im pretty knowledgable when it comes to my mac but I just cant figure out why its running so slow. For example It takes about 10-12 seconds to open up firefox, thats just crazy.
I have repaired permissions, verified my disk, and even ran a techtools fullscan. Nothing seems to be working. Ive got 6.5 gigs off ram in this thing (doubt it reads it all), 150gig sys HD plus many externals for file dumping, and an ati radeon 256mb vid card plus the newest OSX.

I recently purchased from a friend a Powermac G4. It was running Panther (i Think). Because it wasnt running all too well, I decided to give Leopard a go.
I had an extra copy of Leopard lying around, so I installed it. It booted up fine, and was working, until I restarted the computer. Now it doesn't boot up at all, and I get a grey screen with a folder with the mac symbol and a question mark on it. What have I done? And how to I fix it?

I am now looking at the possibility of transferring the system into a G5 PowerMac Case. Why G5? Because they are cheaper than the Mac Pro cases and Mac Pro cases are even more rare than the G5 ones (in the UK anyway). Anyway, how difficult do you reckon this would be? I have been looking on InsanelyMac forum and it appears that the way to go would be to buy a removable motherboard tray from something like a Lian-Li case but what about the PSU/Drives/Cards, etc? What do you think? Is it worth the effort?

I was able to get this machine to connect to my wireless home network, yet I still get the "Server cannot be found" error. Have tried with the old IE program, then I downloaded an older version of Safari on my iMac and transferred it via disk to the PMG4. The safari loaded fine, a window opens, yet it will still not connect. There must be a setting I'm missing - can anybody tell me what it is?
