Safari :: New Tab Flicker Of Old Image Residue?
Apr 5, 2012
Can anyone explain why, when i first open safari and double click to open a new tab, just before the Top Sites page loads i get a flicker of a partly scrambled image? This image is usually, but not always, of a site or screen that has just previously been open in the display, sometimes from a webpage, sometimes from a window such as system preferences. Occasionally the scrambled image is nothing that has been on my screen in the last 24hrs, as far as i can remember. This isn't a problem, per se, but a funny quirk that makes me wonder if there is something amiss with my Macbook. How is this image left hanging around to then briefly re-appear in a scrambled format?

In the last 5 days I've started noticing a strange flickering with images loading in Safari both static and in-line video e.g. cnn.com. A few days ago at lunch while home I opened both Safari and Firefox, opened cnn.com and then clicked on a video. With both videos playing at the same time it looked fine in Firefox but flickered in Safari. I've noticed the same issue with static image loads too. In FF the image loads no problem, in Safari it flickers. I don't think this is related to the video card (8800GT) but sounds like a software issue to me.
Anyone else having a similar problem? BTW, I'm running 10.5.2 with all the latest updates. I've subsequently noticed that turning the machine off and on again relieves the problem?

Safari used to let me drag an image from a webpage to the finder and have the dragged file be saved as an actual image but now all that's saved is a webloc file. I want the image saved, not a reference to the image's URL - do I now have to always use "save as" to save it?Â
I can understand Safari creating a webloc file if I dragged the site icon from the location bar to the finder, but to make the default behavior for dragging things that are parts of a page (not the page itself) as webloc files seems like a HUGE step backwards for usability.Â
Does anyone know if there's, say, a key to hold when dragging to avoid saving a webloc file or a defaults command or something to make Safari revert back to sane draging behavior?

A black MacBook that I recently worked on had the most bizarre thing about it.
One of the memory SIMM's had soem residue on the underside of it. It didn't look like water and the system ran fine with it. I used some contact cleaner to get most of it off. I thought that the system perhaps had something spilled on it but the most puzzling thing is that there was zero residue anywhere else in the system. None. Not under the keyboard, not on the top of the board directly under the memory, nothing... Most peculiar sight.
Could it have come from the factory like that? It seems hard to believe. From what I could tell, the system hadn't been messed with at all, from what I could see.
The issue that brought it to me was the Airport Card was just dropping the network. It's on another part of the board...
Anyone else seen anything like this? It's got me stumped..

I do not have a mousepad with my magic mouse, because everyone I have tried just doesn't track very well at all. My wood desk seems to be perfect so I have been using that. However after a day of use I have all this black residue junk on my desk that I have to get out the spray cleaner and clean it up, which requires a lot of scrubbing. Has anyone else seen this? It seems like the black rubber pads are rubbing off on my desk....if anyone has had this problem what did you do to fix it? New Magic Mouse?

Recently when I have been opening up images in new tabs that are larger than the actual window in Safari I haven't had to option for them to shrink and fit on screen by clicking the mouse on the image. So basically the little magnifying glass doesn't replace the cursor for me to scale down any image anymore.
Is there any option to enable or preference file to edit?

When I loaded up the same page on my pc and mac side by side that the safari version of the page had very poor pictures, i.e. you could see loads of artifacts of the jpg compression. The page I loaded was [URL] and you can see the picture of mr Mac and mr PC stood side by side. I have tried looking through Safari preferences but don't see anything anywhere that would indicate picture compression? Another point I think I should make is that the mac is a macbook and it is running over a 54g network.
So I thought maybe it realised that the speed wasn't up to scratch and therefore adjusted the picture quality itself? Needless to say I did plug in an ethernet lead and after a couple of refreshes the page loaded and the pictures were perfect. Which sort of answered my question? but 54g is a fast enough speed to have high quality images and I thought I should have the choice of selecting this myself?

New to safari. How does one scale text and images concurrently? I only seem to be able to scale text for the moment. I know this can be done in Mozilla. Can it not be done on Safari? I could of sworn it was possible on the display models in the Apple Store.

I've recently noticed that the quality of images in Safari have dropped in resolution. I have downloaded Firefox and tried this application and this has the same problem. I looks like a Mac OS-X setting issue. I was testing what the cmd-F10, CTRL-F9 etc and other combinations do when the quality shifted. I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard (4 GB, 2.5 Ghz). Images in all other applications look fine.

After difficult migration from old Mac Book to Mac Book Pro 13 iCloud image site doesn't appear anymore on my Safari opening page (topsites)
It is not so important because the link already function when I click in the black page. But disturbing. All over pages in topsites have their image right there.

When I am using Google image search in Safari, my MacBook freezes for about 20-30 seconds before it shows the results. It just shows me grey boxes in the beginning and loads for a long time. I had the same issue with my old MBPro, but also with my beand-new one.

One software says I cannot upload an image because the image or the container folder does not have permission. Indeed there is one "unknown" in permissions, that I cannot get to a read write no matter how hard I try -- both on the folder, the desktop, and the file (this is all on my laptop)Â I've done a repair permission.

When a user copies an image from a browser into PowerPoint 2011 he gets text of a link back to the image, not the image itself. But if he copies from a browser into Word he gets the image, and can then copy the image from Word to PowerPoint. Same results with both Firefox and Safari. Behavior is new so I assume it relates to recent software updates but user does not recall accepting any.

I have a 1.2 Ghz Power PC Ibook that has been a flawless laptop for almost two years now. Yesterday, I noticed that the screen wold periodically dim/brighten every couple of seconds. As I looked at the battery icon, I noticed that each time it dimmed, the charge icon would switch to a battery (as if the laptop wasn't plugged in), and each time it brightened, the corresponding charge icon would appear.
This happens even though it is plugged in, and usually, if I adjust the power cord, then it stops. But each time I have had to do this, it becomes less responsive to the method! Now I'm afraid my computer will simply die a slow death, with me frantically jiggling a cord to no avail, watching as it breathes its last breath, unable to be repowered!
PS: I'm an American, in Germany, who will be in London next week and able to visit a genius bar there...but I'm not positive that my warrranty extends beyond American borders.

My monitor has been flickering in all my graphic programs. I'm thinking this has something to do with OSX 10.5.8 and the ATI Radeon 9000 card in my G4 MDD. I've swapped out the ATI card for another of the same quality to see if I get the same problem. The flickering came back. I am now trying out a generic lcd (cornea) to see if the problem occurs.

Got 2011 Mac mini and connected via HDMI to 15 months old Samsung 46 inch LED TV using 1080p and 50Hz. From start (dec 2011) I have had the problem that occationally (>50% of the times) the TV starts to flicker heavily. It is "war of the ants = cannot see anything" on the TV for like 3 seconds and then I can see the desktop clearly for around 3 seconds an then it is back to the flicker.screen. It keeps on like that until I shut-down and restart the Mac mini. Sometime restart works an sometime it does not. Anyone with similar problems that know what to do?

I bought a new HDMI adaptor for my 17" Macbook Pro. I'm plugging into a full HD compatible TV, into an HDMI port. The result is a consistant switch between the actual correct display, and colored static. The rate of the switch is dependent on the frequency of the refresh rate, but there's no way to get it anywhere near comfortable to use. I have tried changing resolutions on both sides to no avail. Here is a video of the screen periodically flickering between display and static url...Also have tried other HDMI ports and cables, all of which are known to be in working condition. Tried restarting the tv and computer. Running out of ideas and hair.Troubled Mac User

I've recently got the Apple MiniDisplay port to VGA adapter for my mid-2010 Macbook Pro (2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAM, nVidia GT330M with switching), and have it hooked up to a relatively old Samsung SyncMaster 2223NW widescreen LCD monitor. I'm running the laptop side by side with the monitor (not in clamshell). For the most part this works great, though I have noticed the CPU and the GPU Diode run at least 10 degrees warmer than they would when just using it as a laptop.
The problem comes in when watching HD (720p or 1080p) video on YouTube. During playback it seems to cause strange black lines/artifacts which flicker all over the screen. Standard Def video is fine, only happens with HD content. I don't know whether this is an indication that the GPU is overworked (though the temperature seems to be within normal limits) or something to do with the analogue VGA connection or the adapter itself.

I recently right clicked a picture to set it as my desktop picture but didn't have the foresight to save the picture in case I wanted to change it later. I still have the picture up but I cannot find where the picture is stored so I can save it for later. I checked HD/Library/desktop pictures but no luck. Does anyone know where these pictures are saved?

The problem is that when I am playing them with my macpro, I get a white flicker when trying to play them full screen. Like a white strobo. When resizing the window smaller, they develope a black flicker. Only when doing playback in a smaller window (1/4 of the screensize) they play back normally. Display is a 30",so is my 7300Gs such a useless p.o.s or what is going on?
