QuickTime :: Will Not Play Wmv Files Anymore
Jun 10, 2012
I've had QT with Flip4Mac, Perian, Flash payer installed (as well as the older version of QT 7 where I can do easy edits), and it seems that when I click to open a wmv file as I have a million times in the past, QT says that the operation cannot be completed and the movie doesn't play.
What has caused this to happen? It seems like it stared right after I updated my Flip4Mac...now using 2.4.4.2. how to get my wmv files to play again? I'd certainly appreciate any pointers.

Today I discovered that QTX does not play divx files anymore on my macbook even though I have perian installed. Whenever I try to play a divx file, a pop up appears saying I need to install QT7
What I already tried is:repair permissions;uninstall and reinstall perian;create another user-->same issue;get rid of QTX caches and preferences;restart the machine

I'm using 10.7.3. iTunes 10.6. MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz 4GB ram. ITunes won't play my video anymore and it's been a while I'm not sure when it occurred if it's after an update to snow leopard or iTunes updates. When I double click a video I get "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."? And cannot convert the option doesn't work I get this other message when trying to convert a version for APPLE TV in advanced menu "None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found."?
But the movies are quicktime movies in my library and the MPEG-4 plays in iTunes but not on APPLE TV. From all my videos I get one only going through APPLE TV and when I try opening it it says error occured why opening and never works? It seems APPLE is regularly messing things up in updates to loose people so they have to pay for tech support, I didn't upgrade to iPhoto 11 and cannot import anything anymore into it so my entire library is a dead one; not a cool way to do business than messing people software so they have to buy newer versions!

I've used to play .sdp files on Quicktime Player 10.0 on Snow Leopard.
After I've updated to Lion, Quictime Player got updated to 10.1 and it no longer recognizes .sdp files. It gives an error message with "Quicktime Player cannot open files in the "OpenOffice.org 1.0 Presentation" format."
The same sdp file plays well on Windows version of QuickTime Player, and if I boot to Snow Leopard, it works on QT Player 10.0. Is there a way to fix this problem and let the QuickTime Player recognize the .sdp files again?

When I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?

I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.

I have edited several videos using Final Cut Express and exported them as .mov files to my desktop. Now, because I have a small internal hard drive (128GB SSD), I copy all of my raw footage to an external hard drive and then delete the files from my Mac HD. But, I keep the finished videos on my desktop. When I try to play the video while the hard drive is plugged in, QuickTime opens and plays the video just fine. But, when the external hard drive is NOT connected and I try to play the video (from my Mac HD), QuickTime won't open it nor play it. If I absolutely have to, I will carry the external HD around with me so I can play my videos, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the codec (H.264) my OS (10.6.8) QuickTime X or FCE (4.1).

I have the latest QT and OSX software. I also have Perian installed. I upgraded my Flip4Mac to version 2.4.4.2 recently and now my QT will not play wmv files and sometimes it will not play mov files. I've never had trouble with QT before and have learned through online research that there has been an issue with a 3ivx codec that comes with Divx that everyone says to remove from the System/library/quicktime folder. I checked, and I didn't have that particular codec listed. I DO, however, have ALL of these codecs listed in my QT folder:
AppleGVAHW.component
ApplePiletVideo.component
AppleProResDecoder.component
AppleVAH264HW.component
[code]....
This seems like a lot of codecs, many of which I am unsure about. Could ANY of these be causing my wmv files (or my Flip4Mac) to be corrupt and unable to work?

None of my mp4 files play on iTunes or QuickTime, both of which are up to date. I have OS X 10.7.5. The mp4 files have all been added to iTunes movies. But when I click 'play', the window is all black / blank although the title of the video is shown in the header, and even the timer . Same with QuickTime.

I recently got a Macbook pro OS X Lion and for the past few months have had problems with trying to run movies on Quicktime 10.1. My videos files are usually .AVI but when I try to click on it quick time opens and then tells me that it can't read the file. I've search the internet for answer and have tried a lot of different solutions that others have had success on (including updating Perian and trying to convert the .AVI file to .MOV) yet I still have had no such luck.

I am starting a new thread because I am unable to play mov files in QuickTime X. This includes previously downloaded movie trailers from apple, mov files downloaded in itunes, mov files filmed on my iPhone or even files created from hd camcorder files. I am alo unable to play embedded QuickTime movies on the apple homepage, or play move trailers such as: [URL]Neither does the "download" option work. However if I force the files to play with QuickTime 7 or vlc, they play fine. If I use Firefox the embedded videos play ok, but in the example of trying to download the movie trailers still doesn't work.

I have several HD videos from my Sony NEX-3 camera that will not play very well from within iMovie. They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?
