View 3 RepliesI just finished upgrading my 1st gen macbook to an n card and have a N airport extreme router so the only thing that is going to drag down my network, especially disk access, is my Powerbook G4 1.67. I've searched the boards and found mention to cardbus cards for N, but all I can find online is G type cards. Are there N wireless cards that would work on my Powerbook? And are any of these 5 ghz?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know I could use the apple branded stuff so I don't have to use up usb ports but I'm not sure which airport card I need (I'm guessing the airport extreme) and I don't know where the bluetooth card is installed.
Its a 1.42ghz model.
I bought this refurbished computer, which has Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard PowerPC G4,1.42 GHz, Single Core,512 MB, and 80 GB hard drive. I'm told it can probably use an Airport Express card #A1026. Is this correct? And, I was also told I would have to plug in the antenna. Anything else to get? (I already have a Netgear Router #WGR614)
View 6 Replies View Relatedif i connect an Airport Extreme Base Station to an emac (via a cable) is that the same as adding an airport extreme card?
OR
if i buy the emac an airport extreme card will i be able to connect to my ibook (soon to be imac) to use the ibooks internet connection? (without having to buy a base station).
i've not dealt with wireless network (obviously) and i'm really not sure what is required to get a network setup.
I have an Airport card in my eMac. My eMac sees it OK. I have an iMac connected to a wireless router. My eMac sees the router, but when I type in the password to connect I get a cannot establish connection error. THERE IS AN ERROR JOINING THE AIRPORT NETWORK " xxxxxxxxxxxxxx " (xxxxxxx being the name of my router. Just realised that even though the eMac sees the router it is getting no signal, all lines in airport icon in Menu Bar are grey and not black as when there is a signal of some strength.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a used Emac G4 and I have a router downstairs but now I need to know how to get a wireless signal in my room. Here are the specs:
700mhz G4 processor, 40gb harddrive, DVD ReaderCombo drive, 17 inch screen, internal 56k modem, ethernet port, built-in speakers, 2 Firewire ports, 3 USB ports, external speaker & mic connections, and video output for an external monitor. fresh installation of OS X 10.1. Also I plan to update to tiger (get an update off ebay). Will the computer handle it well? I'm eventually going to upgrade to 1gb of RAM.
Just wanna know if the latest iMacs can receive wifi out of the box, sorry for noob question
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used my airport extreme for several years. It now will only allow one computer to be connected to wireless at a time. When the new computer signs in shows disconnected. I am able to connect but then the original user is bumped off when they try to switch pages. Talked to provider and everything seems to be OK on their end. Modem works when plugged directly into computer using ethernet cable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my G4 Mirror Drive system to a new(ish) G5 2Ghz DP system, which sadly has nothing but PCI-X slots. Other than possible server stuff, what can you do with them?
I was annoyed when I realized it... I had a PCI card in my G4 with four USB2.0 ports and was hoping to migrate it to the G5 but, apparently not. Unless there is a 'trick' to make it work... like making the 9600Pro work in my old G4 using tape and covering up pins etc.
if any PCI ATA133 card will work in a G5 with PCI ? i have a old G5 Dual Core 2.0Ghz im trying to build op for a friend. But he also have 2 old ATA drives with lots of stuff he needs and therefor we will have to install a ATA133 PCI card. I have 2 different PC ATA133 cards i need to know if they will work just like that ? Does the OS X system have the drivers for ATA133 build in ? thx
Its a Powermac G5 with PCI slots. Running OS X 10.4.11 PPC
So what are the top AGP video cards? Either being a Mac or PC that I could flash with a Mac Rom. What are the better choices that I have? I used to use flashed PC cards of 9800 Pro for my G4s but figured there are better cards for the G5. I do prefer to get PC cards since they are cheaper and I can flash them.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Power Mac G4 AGP Machine and was wondering what is the best graphics card that will go into this machine??I dont it can but im going to ask Are there any HD Graphics cards that will work with it??
View 2 Replies View RelatedRight now I've got a dual-DVI PCI-X card that runs two LCD screens on my PowerMac (the 256MB variant that shipped with the 2.0 DC). However, I just recently purchased a 37" LG LCD to replace my aging tube TV and I'd like to output my Mac to the LG to watch movies, etc. And at the moment, I have to unplug one of my smaller LCD's and run a cable to the LG.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis topic has been touched on from time to time here, but I wanted to somehow establish a more definitive consensus about what type of brands are capable of being used in the PowerMac G5, specifically the last dual core models.I know most people suggest brands like Crucial, Kingston, and OWC because they'll guaranty compatibility, but you'll always pay a premium for that guaranty. I can go with generic (read: PC) memory of the same type for significant savings, but I'm not sure how well it will work. Back in the day, with my PowerMac G4, I threw in any generic brand
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know the G4s are 733mhz and below, I'm not sure if they're Quicksilvers or DAs, I could probably find out, but I already bugged an IT guy once, so I'm not sure I want to ask again. Now, assuming these are at a decent price (from what I've heard, they usually are), is it worth it to buy one and upgrade? I've been reading over lowendmac.com, and I see both of the 733mhz models will accept dual 1.8 cards/boards. This probably won't be my primary machine, but my Photoshop machine until I get a Mac Pro.How much are the 733mhz machines worth, they probably have 1gb or so of ram, and a decent(for the time) vide card. The school doesn't really skimp, in our photo department, we have G5s w/dual 2ghz, 4gb RAM, and 23" ACDs.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a powermac G5, dual 2.5 ghz from 2004. I was wondering what the best graphics card upgrades are. I currently have an nvidia Geforce 6800 ultra, but I really want something with more vram

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need more ram for my eMac 1ghz. It has 512mb and its a little slow during some things. Like IMovie. What type of ram do I need?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.25 ghz eMac with 1 512 stick currently in. What's the max amount of ram that I can put in? And, do I have to look for anything else except for "DDR SDRAM?" Do I need a certain PC number?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm purchasing an eMac in a couple days, but am a little confused about performance. Its a 1 GHZ PowerPC G4 with 256MB of Ram but my last pc blew up (literaly) However the 1GB of RAM that was in still works and will fit in it.
Besides that my Questions pertain to Leopard and Time Machine. I Know that Leopard will run on this Mac, But what about performance? and I heard that the eMacs cant experience the i candy Time Machine offers.
How So? is it true? I really want the Ability to use Time Machine. (Right now i'm just using Genie Timeline for my Windows 7 PC)
So yeah I need 2 gigs of ram for my eMac 1.42ghz model. I found this but I don't know if there is anywhere to get it for less $.

I just got a USB 2.0 emac for nothing that was going to the recycler. The door specs are: 1.25 ghz/256/40GB/Combo "About this mac" shows that it has 512mb RAM installed in one slot, and it is running 10.4.11 Anyways, it seems to be working great so far. I was able to get one stick of 256mb supported RAM from the only other 1.25 ghz machine in the lot - the rest were 700 - 800mhz emacs. Is it OK to mix the 256 with the 512? I've read many places that it is fine, but will it actually boost the speed of apps and things, or should I just leave it as is? I read somewhere that it might slow down the speed between the two RAM capacities. I don't want to spend any money to buy more RAM.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an EMac g4-255mb(just got 2 (256mb chips) never put in yet)-60gig running 10.4 (just got it) and now just got iLife 06) and then I have an 80gig external hard drive. So its like 140gig of room. But I only have a cd burner and dvd drive. Would it be cheaper to install an new internal drive? Or pay more for the external(cause there is no hard installation). What drives would work? And I have a $200 dollar gift card to bestbuy or futureshop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just got an excellent condition eMac 1.42GHz with the Radeon 9600 Card every transition is so smooth! Smoother than my MacBook!
Everything is standard, but it has an Airport Card in it as well which is cool
However, standard also means only 256MB of DDR3200 Memory.
Tiger is installed and everything updated.
Now I am planning to move this thing to Leopard alongside my MacBook. How much RAM shall I get for it? 512MB or 1GB? (bringing it to 768/1.25 respectively) Also what do I need to look out for brand-wise or type wise?
i have some questions regarding the Emac..
1.if i get the raster problem that its known for.. will the image display fine on an lcd with the mini vga cable?
2.is an emac with these specs worth $100 shipped..700mhz""512mb""40gig""keyboard""mouse""cd-rw""geforce2mx..
3.how much stronger in old games is the emac compared to an powermac g4 400mhz with a ati rage pro?? with 512mb of ram..
4.i think thats everything
I am wondering because of the click sound if it may actually be the hard-drive causing the pausing issues (as processor/loading noise on macs is generally silent). I have done all of the disk utility fixes etc. with no positive results; disk utility can not find any problems with the HD.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy grandfather's dell laptop is horribly slow. I want to buy him a new computer thats runs faster for his emails/videos. I was looking at the old imacs/emacs on ebay (the 2000-2005) versions.
These comps fit in his budget of approx 100$. I was planning to buy an imac/emac with the following specs
500mhz (or faster) Processor (or 600/700mhz)
256mb (or more) Ram (512mb)
20gb Hard drive (adding external memory)
with the newer os x operating system.
My question will these computers fit his needs? He writes emails, he writes a ton of word documents, and he views videos off youtube and off a media player.
My question is that will these spec'd computers be able to run his needs efficiently?
Are there programs that are similar to the windows (which he is used to)?
Can you run microsoft office on these computers?
If not what would be the recommended specs I should look for?
I went online and baught the following memory that should be compatible with my eMAC:
512MB 64x64 non-ecc
PC133 133Mhz, 168 pin SDRAM
Unbuffered, Non ECC, Non Registered
7.5ns, 3.3v, CL 3 or CL 2
