View 3 RepliesEver since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my 4 year old iBook G4 screen, which flickers or blacks out depending on how far open the lid is. The problem has worsened over 6 weeks. What is the diagnosis?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI sold my friends my eMac, and he is having a problem with Warcraft 3. Now, I own it too, and have reinstalled it and downloaded patch on the machine so many times over the years. Now, when he installs the latest patch, it says TFT could not be opened. Could using my discs fix the problem? Regular Warcraft 3 still works after patched.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
My iBook G4 power supply failed and I'm awaiting a replacement. In the mean time, can I use the power supply from my iBook G3 with the iBook G4?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.
SPECS
ibook G3- 500 MHZ

currently has 6 GB HD
ibook G4- 1064 MHZ

I just purchased my Mid 2010 21.5" IMac a few days ago. Before it used to load pretty fast but yesterday I noticed it began to load slowly after a blackout. its taking about 30 seconds or more to boot up after a shut down and when I first turn it on, I hear a chyme and after the chyme. I am at a white screen for quite a while before I see the apple symbol. Is this normal??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have never witnessed anything such as this on a Mac before, so I'm completely at a loss. It's hard to replicate this problem, as it seems to be totally random--sometimes it'll happen when coming back from sleep, but more often, it just happens in the middle of regular tasks. While I'm using the computer, the screen will suddenly go black for several seconds, and I simply have to wait for it to return.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro 13', 2011 recnetly goes into sleep randomly and sometimes the screen blacksout for a second and resumes normal.
Also, there are times that my zoom in feature in safari fails and I had to reopen the application to re-activate it.

So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?
View 3 Replies View Relatedare these two LCDs swappable? Can I stick a G3 iBook Screen into a G4? I have no idea and I'd like to have some idea.
does the hinge and everything line up, too?
Will an iBook G3 keyboard ([URL]) work on an iBook G4?
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan it work? I found the part I need in my closet from an iBG3 and if it worked that'd just be great.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to start afresh on my HD, i.e. reinstall from original disks and use Disk Utility to secure erase (via Erase & Install).I've read articles about pros and cons + how to do it. So I think I know how to do everything. However, from my reading I gather that Zero Erase is a single pass random erase whereas 7 Pass is secure erase (and there is a 3 Pass secure erase option nowadays)? That got me wondering - does 7 Pass secure erase make 7 x single passes over the entire disk?If it does, then when the blue bar has extended a bit over a third of the way across the progress monitor (that little bar that indicates time left) it should have made 3 passes, which would be equivalent to 3 pass secure erase? Is that an option? Is it possible to stop part way through an erase (which is part of E & I)? My original disks 1 and 2 have OS X 10.4, with OS X 10.5 included as complimentary 3rd disk (because OS X 10.5 was just released at that time).I gather I need to erase with disk 1, then install disks 1 + 2, then install OS X 10.5.

Will the restore and AHT discs from a 1.2 GHz 12" iBook work in a 1 GHz 12" iBook? All I am interested in is the AHT.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I opened safari my homepage was apple and it opened using the middle of the display with the desktop screensaver visable on both sides of the page now it opens adn takes up the whole screen I don't know how to resize it and save it where it will open to the same all the time. I'm a very new owner of an IMAC and to apple so I'm completely in the dark to mac systems and just stumbling around. I'm a 70 year old guy that's ben drug into the 21 century and trying to keep up (not very good )

Is this even possible? This is what iStat Pro is telling me about my CPU. I'd just like to know if anyone thinks this is possible because to me if my cpu was at 150 i would think it would be melting. My fans are at 2000 rpm as well.
View 23 Replies View RelatedAfter about 45mins of gaming in bootcamp under windows7 have a look at the result. The seems way too hot - 80 degrees?? Sometimes the CPU gets close to 90! Does anyone know if these are normal/acceptable temps for 2010 iMacs? I read that CPU temps should generally not go much above 50 degrees. I would assume running at 80degrees is not good for the hardware long term?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently saw a MBP in a magazine advertisement and it was open all the way, screen facing up. I have a unibody MacBook from 2008 and I know it was never possible. Just curious if Apple had actually made that possible with newer models or whether it's just a photoshop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I am pushing my MBP quite hard by exporting ~2000 15mp images from Lightroom. This results in 6k/min fans. What worries me though is that lately I've noticed that the computer is getting insanely hot: The bottom of the laptop is literally untouchable as I'd get burns on my hand if I kept it there.
View 24 Replies View RelatedFan loud and hot. 200 degrees & 6200 RPM. Brought to apple store last week and of course it stopped two days before and the apple store could find nothing wrong. The next day I turned on Laptop it started again of course.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan I rotate an image a few degrees, rather than 90? Preview does only 90 degree increments and I don't have a photo-editing program. I have MS Office for Mac, and Word has a feature called Free Rotate on the Drawing Toolbar, but it's not supported.

I have been having multipled overheating problems with my Macbook pro for about 9 months now. I regularily check the CPU heat and it shows an average of 54 degrees C with minimal app usage for about an hour. Also my charger seems to become scolding hot after usage as well.

My first gen macbook is running with a CPU temp of 71 degrees celcius while running nothing. The mds and mdworker processes are taking up most of the processor and it wont change after quitting the processes or restarting or shutting down the computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run 2 instances of yes > /dev/null in the terminal windows and the coolbook temperature rises to 100 degrees Celsius. In istat pro its 105 degrees Celsius for the cpu? And of course its downclocking to 1200mhz. If I use the lowest voltage in coolbook the temperature will reach 92 degrees celcius, still really high. I'm only stressing the CPU, wonder what happens when I also stress the GPU. It seems the air is really not capable of this 'high-end' processor and gpu, I wonder if the rev2 of the air will be any better.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast last night i installed the new update for iTunes and Quicktime. Now when I turn my laptop on it runs at a really high temperature (90 - 96 Degrees).
