I was just looking at the battery info for my PB which is about 1.5 years old. It says that my cycle count is 59. I was wondering how many cycles the average battery will do with a reasonable charge time? My absolute max capacity is 4400. I found the information with the following command:

I received a Black 2.4GHz MacBook that I bought on eBay a few days ago to add to my collection. The battery reports 828 charge cycles, and has about 82% of it's original charge capacity, and still lasts a good 2.5 hours. What I want to know is, is it unsafe to use it like this? Apple Battery FAQ doesn't not really say when to replace the battery, besides when it doesn't hold that good of a charge anymore.
Should I be worried?
I noticed that my MacBook doesn't run as long as it used to before I have to charge it again. I downloaded CoconutBattery, and it tells me that my battery is down to 91% of its original capacity after only 30 charge cycles. It's 5 months old according to CB, and I bought it new on Dec. 24th. (It's a Unibody White...) Is this normal, or should I take it into the Apple Store for a replacement?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have had my macbook for just 6 months....at the beginning it was perfect with a very good battery life.Now at 99% charge (as it refuses to finish charge to 100%) It now says 10:00 where the battery time is and last less than 30mins.
Also its charge capacity is JUST 708 !!!!It was over 4000 just 6 months ago.Im sure my battery is on its last legs, anybody know if I am entitled to a free one?

My iBook G3 800 MHz will not charge any more all of a sudden. I have tried plugging it in to several power sockets and it won't charge. Whats more... I tried charging it with just the normal charger, and I even tried charing it with the extension wire! I am not sure if it is the charger, or my iBook. If it is the iBook, should i rip it open and get a new part for it? If it is the charger, where can i get a new one?

If I unplug the charger from the mains socket, and plug it back in, the ring around the charger will turn green for about a second and then turn off. I've tried to restart the iBook, and I've removed the battery from it also.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSome days ago i finally added a Powerbook g4 to my Mac collection and since then ive been trying to fix this computer without any results. The Powerbook had the battery dead at first and i had to replace it with a new one i had. Now the problem/weird thing is that the computer detects the battery but it doesnt charge. It has about 18% of the charge and when i try to boot up all i hear is like a fan sound and nothing more, no boot up sound and no image on the screen.
If i boot up using the power cable thats when i see the 18% of the battery icon, but as soon as i take out the power cord, the image goes black although the computer still makes sounds as if it was on. Does it have any solution? PS: ive tried to reset the PMU,changed the pRam for a new one, reset the Nvram.
for some reason my powerbook battery charge slowly goes down even while it's plugged in. The power light is green as if it's fully charged but it goes down about 1% every day and then if i unplug it and plug it back in then it starts to charge, goes up to 100% like it should and then starts all over again. It never used to do this so i don't know why it's doing it now.
It started happening around the time apple had that huge recall so then i got it replaced but it still does it so it can't be the batteries fault (at least it doesn't seem likely)
I have a 1.33Ghz 12" powerbook and recently it has started to just shut off when the battery is saying it has around a half hour left, instead of it warning me that the battery is low and it will go to sleep soon. and then it won't restart until I plug it in. is there any way for me to fix this besides getting a new battery? This battery is not covered under any recalls, and there is no applecare left on the computer. also if it matters the computer is running 10.4.10.

I can run my iBook off of the AC adapter fine but when I unplug it it automatically shuts off as if there is no battery in it.
It shows that the battery is charging and everything in the menubar but when I unplug it, it will shut off. This just happened today and earlier today I was working on it with the battery working fine.
I also switched out to the old stock battery and it does the same thing.
I think it has to be hardware related. I have reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM and it didn't help. Also when I started the computer back up it said that my clock was reset. Feedback is much appreciated.

My adapter caught on fire, and I had to put it out. When I tried to charge my battery with a new adapter, it would not charge. I got another battery, (old one from a friend), that apparently had some juice left on it. The computer turned on no problem, and I used it for about 20 minutes when I noticed that the battery was slowly dying, and that it would not charge again. Now, its dead again. It will not charge. Does this sound like a logic board problem? Who can I contact?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my iBook G4 for about 4 years now. I replaced the battery two years ago and have had to replace the charger twice. My current charger, which I bought rather cheaply on ebay, will only charge the battery when my computer is shut down or sleeping.
This makes it very difficult to work as my current battery is losing charge quickly and plugging it in is of no use when I am using it.
Is there anything I can do to change this? Or do I need a new battery?
My school-computer (iBook 14" 1,42 Ghz G4, running OSX 10.4.10) has developed some unpleasant habbits lately. With lots of batterycharge left, 28-50%, it shuts down without warning. I try to restart it, and it gets to various stages of booting before shutting down again. It won't run untill i plug in the powercable, and then it starts of from almost half full charge. I did a bit of searching on the forums, and installed coconutbattery with the attached (depressing) result. Tried resetting the pmu, which didn't stop it from shutting down on me again 46 mins later. Does this mean I need to replace the battery?

According to this report, the MBP got around 3&1/2hrs of run time with a dimmed screen and watching videos. From a full charge, I start browsing the internet (no videos at all), and my battery reading read as follows
91% 1hr, 16mins
90% 1hr, 20mins
89% 1hr, 24mins
87% 1hr, 23mins
Not only were the readings all over the place, but even from a full near charge I wasn't even getting an estimate of 2hrs, while Apple advertised 4 for the late 2008 model, and the review I linked to says they got 3&1/2. Do I have a bad battery, or does simply running the 9600 reduce the battery life by such a drastic amount? I have already calibrated my battery following the guide on the Apple website.
I have read about Macbook Pro batteries from apple.com. I use to talk to many people and ask about batteries which brought me upto this confusion. Well, my question is, should i charge macbook pro when it's battery is completely drained or it's okay to charge at any time as long as it's not at 100%? For example, I wanna start charging it while its 60% and make it to 100% or Don't charge it until battery reaches to 5 or 10 percent.

Basically I'm having issues with my newly acquired Powerbook G4. When i bought it the battery was not working at all so have now installed a new replacememnnt battery which works fine but having some slight issues. So...
First time I charged it, it reached 100% but green light never came on to indicate full charge. When I run the PB off the battery it gets to 20% and it shuts down without any warning it's low on battery (trying to switch it on after this is impossible, it clearly has no life) After the above I connect the power lead and start up the computer, the battery indicator starts charging from 20% onwards. Something fishy definitely going on and I have no idea what it could be, I calibrated the battery but it has always cut off at 20% since first charge/discharge.
I have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4. This morning it was fine. When I got home from work, it decided that it suddenly no longer wants to stay on when not plugged in. The battery is showing a full charge. The light on the plug is green. But the second I unplug the cord from the laptop, the entire thing shuts down.

My Macbook's battery has done 902 cycles and is on 92% health.
I was just wondering - even though I know it's impossible to predict the life-span of a computer battery - a) how accurate that reading is (I use the iStat Pro widget) and b) ignoring the health reading, is it time to buy a new battery when it hits 1000 cycles?
The health has gone down from 100% to 92% in the space of about 3 months? Maybe more. Is that a sign that I should change it?

This is the unibody MacBook the one they are calling the Classic uMB and I have had this since it was new, I bought this around February 2009, so just under 2 years old.
I know that the new 17 MBP can go through 1000 cycles or so of battery use. But what can the 13" MBA go through?

The MacBook Pro is a 13' unit. it was replaced with a SSD drive. The battery has 327 charging cycles on it. Sometimes when using battery only the machine will start to boot up, will get the logo then immediately shut down, screen goes black then the process continues, once I connect the AC power the Macbook boots correctly. Should also mention that the circuit board that controls the charging of the battery was also replaced (outside of warranty period) several months ago as well.

My AppleCare expires on Monday September 6th, and I am wondering if my 87% capacity at 51 battery cycles suggests I should visit an Apple Store this weekend? The closest store is around 25 miles away, so if I would be wasting my time, I would rather not take the trip. My concern is mostly based on my warranty ending. This is a 2009 13" MBP.
