I have a iMAC running 10.5.5 and have connected a HP Photosmart C6280 Printer to it via the USB cable. Using Bonjour to connect a XP and a Vista box I get a error saying "ERROR You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I am logged in as the administrator when I do it on the XP or Vista computer and have completed this function on other printer installation before so I know the permissions are there. The software for the printer is loaded on both windows computers.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a PC on my network that has a secondary internal hard drive and an external USB 2.0 hard drive that are both shared on the network. From my MacBook Pro with Lion, I have no problem accessing the C and second internal drives, but cannot access the USB external drive from the Mac. I have no problem accessing the external drive from my 2 other PC's on the network. The external drive has the exact same sharing settings as every other internal drive on my network.
All PC's are running Windows 7 and this is a home network. I don't have any servers or anything running. I just set up basic file sharing so that I can access any drive of any PC from any other computer on my network. The Mac just says "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "T" can't be found." when trying to access the external. Lastly, the Mac is on wifi, not ethernet.

I'm trying to get a Macmini (10.3) and/or MacBook Pro (10.5) to work with a HP PSC 750. On the Pro I get a "shared memory services not created" and on the mini I get "unable to communicate with HPAIO". Any idea what's going on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my pc to vista. When i was using xp, my macbook (running leopard) picked up my shared folders on my home network just fine, and several other wireless networks... now despite having the shared folders in vista set up and the network configured... leopard is showing nothing....its as if there's no network there.
the internet runs fine (on the network) but it won't access my shared files.. so there are no network problems, its a software issue either with vista or leopard... what am i doing wrong?
I'm connecting my new Macbook Pro 15" running Snow Leopard, to my home network and of course it hooked up with my wireless router right away.
I have a NAS hard wired to a wireless router. The Mac sees all the folders and files just fine and can read/write.I have a Vista Home Premium PC hard wired to the same wireless router. The Users Folder is shared with full privileges as are the individual users folders. The firewall is off. It runs no "security software".
The Mac can see the Vista PC and also see the Users individual account folders but when I open them I can't see any of the files.I really don't know what direction to go. The Vista PC networked fine with an older Toshiba laptop that the Mac replaced.
Before the 10.7.4 update, my HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf multi fucntion printer worked just fine with the built in OS X print drivers. I had the printer shared on the network via my iMac (2011) over USB and other devices could print to it via Bonjour.Â
As soon as the 10.7.4 update hit, printing has been an issue. Whenever a print job is sent to the printer over the network the printer displays a 'Please Insert Paper' warning that has to be cleared on the device itself before the print will continue, even though the printer is full of paper... This does not happen when printing from the iMac itself, only when using the iMac to share the printer.Â
10.7.4 seems to have been a really buggy update as it has caused problems with Wifi becoming unusable until the iMac is rebooted.Â

A few days ago we added a few new iMacs running 10.7.4 (currently). We set up all our network shares to various servers using SMB, with an edited hosts file in /etc. For the first few days, we were able to connect without an issue. Today however, our shares won't connect using SMB and when viewing all shared systems, the list has truncated to only 6 items from 30 or 40. We can connect using IP addresses, but this creates a conflict with some applications that we use. Restarting has no resolved the issue. We've tried many different "fixes", but we nothing has worked yet.

I got iMac on my office. There is network issue on my iMac Desktop. When my computer remains idle for long time (sleep) and wakes up again, I can ping into the same network device (say 192.168.0.0 network) but I am not able to ping into other sub net (say 10.2.0.0, printer network).
Restarting iMAc resolves the problem or unplugging the cable and connect to some other Laptops and connect back to iMAc works again (I mean I can access other networks again). I turned of auto-negotiation and tried renew DHCP Address but it still doesn't solve my problem. Restarting the computer and unplugging the cable and plug-in back is not a solution for me.
Have just added a wireless Canon printer to my local network. Have a shared print queue on a Mac Mini. Have modified the printer options for this printer/queue using CUPS on the Mini.Â
Identified as a shared printer. Expanded options using CUPS, these options appear in the Mini "print" panel. Can see printer over network on another Mac.Cannot see printer presets, or expanded options on this machine "print" panel.Copies presets .plist from Mini to local machine, now see presets {this is suboptimal - the OS should see the shared presets).
Cannot see epanded print options on local machine. I would expect the expanded options would be visible to
any network machine connected to this printer/queue. What am I missing?

I have my printer connected to a PC with Windows 7. I have 3 PC's that can print to it over my wireless network. But for some reason I can't get the MBP to print. I have tried many methods and they have all failed.

Here's what I've tried: SMB and FTP sharing is disabled on the host. After updating the operating systems on both computers as far as they can be updated, permissions were repaired, new sharing usernames were created, firewalls are disabled on host and client.Â

I'm having trouble printing to a printer shared by my Mac Pro running 10.6.8 from my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 Printer sharing is turned on on my Mac pro, they are connected to the same network, the MacBook via Airport and the Mac Pro via ethernet. I can quite happily swap files between them. When I try to add a printer on the MacBook the Canon iP4300 simply doesn't show up under the list of available printers as I think it should do.

My MacBook pro (snow leopard) has had a major issue and the screen boots up with big colour blocks on it. Rendering it useless.
I've plugged another MacBook in via FireWire and it can see my shared folders. So it looks like its booting up and hard drive may be okay.Â
However I have vital files in my desktop and desktop is not shared, so i don't have permission.
Us there anyway to get to these files sobi can back them up before I hand the laptop over to Apple to be fixed. Basically I have some really important documents I badly need. It's my fault for not backing up

I am a new intern with a small company and am trying to connect my Macbook Pro's printer settings to our office printer, which is a LanierLD145. We halso have an HP3600 on the same wireless network which my Macbook can detect and print to just fine via the shared network server. However, when I try to find the LanierLD145 I can't find it anywhere on my shared network or via a wireless to connection in order to print to it from my laptop.
I have access to the desktop I believe the printer is routed to the server through and have "shared printer with network" via this computer. However, I still cannot find the LD145 icon on my macbook when I try to connect and print, even when going through the "Windows"-> (shared server) route. I've also installed apple's "general lanier printer driver" in hopes have luck finding the printer if I have the driver installed, but that has not worked either. How I can connect the macbook to the LanierLD145 via my wireless server connection?

I'm running Mavericks on my late 2013 MacBook Pro. When I try to access a shared computer on my network, the Finder window closes as soon as I click on the computer I want to access. File sharing is turned on on the target computers, both iMacs, one is running Mavericks and the other is running Mountain Lion. The iMacs can access the MacBook Pro and each other without a problem. Firewall is not on on the iMac. Is there a setting I am missing

I've followed the instructions on the Apple website in relation to adding a Windows shared printer to a Mac [URL] but I still can't get it to work.
When I send a test page to the printer it appears in the Windows print queue and shows 'spooling' as the status. The document never prints.
I really don't know where to go from here, I'm just totally stumped and I've been trying for weeks to get this to work. Has anyone got any ideas?
Made a custom TCP/IP port on the PC. Assigned my Mac's IP address 192.16.1.101 as the location of the printer. Made sure protocol was set to RAW. Everything should work but the print job never makes it to the Mac. The print que on the PC shows error and the print que on the Mac never shows anything. I decided to delete all the printers on the PC, plug it in directly to the printer via usb and let it install the drivers, print test page etc... After that I reconnected the printer to the mac, pc to the network and just changed the port on the printer properties to reflect the IP address. It still didn't work. I can't seem to find any more information on what to do next. The PC is running Win XP and the Mac is on Leopard. Another thing, how does the PC know which printer to use if the Mac has two attached? I disabled sharing on the other printer thinking the PC might have been confused.

I have a network consisting of three Macs and a PC running Windows XP. One of my printers (a Canon Pixma MP830) is USB-connected to one of the Macs with sharing turned on. Thus, I am able to print to this device from any of the Macs. How can I access this shared printer from the Windows device? I can't determine an IP address because the printer doesn't have one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a broken networkport on our HP Laserjet P2015dn, and need it to print from 4 macs in the office. 3times osX 10.4.11 and 1time osX 10.6.4 (all except 1 non-intel; running windows XP via Parallels and connected on the general office network). I am currently sharing the printer via USB (broken networkport) connected via a Mac using 10.4.11. I can print from every Mac, obviously. However, I can't print or know how to set this up for use in Windows (parallels).
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy printer is connected to my Mac Mini through the USB port and is shared with my MacBook Pro. I am on a large intranet and am worried about other people using my printer. Is it possible to password protect my shared printer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have already done this successfully with one PC laser printer using the built-in OS X System Preferences utilities. I have tried the CUPS method. I do not know what uname/pword combo it wants. There is only one account on this machine and no password. That combination is unacceptable to CUPS. Give me this info and I'll give CUPS another shot. Through the OS, when I get to the step of selecting the driver from the list, the driver is not listed even though. I just installed it with the original driver disk from the mfr. Is there a way to get the printer driver I installed to show up on the list of available drivers I am offered? My other printer was in the list, connected just fine, and I can print to it with no problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set up the shared printer on my iMac in my room. I am trying to print from my husbands iMac in the living room. It is acting like it is going to print but when I try to print the printer queue comes up and it pauses the print job. When I select resume it says "Printing- 1.6.2 is ready to print." then it pauses again.
I tried setting the printer up multiple times from the living room and when I do it says the address is "valid and complete host name or address" then when I'm done and click "Add" it tells me "Unable to verify the printer on your network." "Unable to connect to 'Mycomputer-name-example.local’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?" cancel or continue.
Also I installed the printer software on both computers so that shouldn't be the issue.

Is it possible to print from Snow Leopard to a Windows 7 shared printer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a shared printer on windows. The printer is physically hooked up to an iMac G5 via USB and I'm trying to set the printer up on my xp machine. I followed these instructions and aside from a few things that weren't the same as explained (I'll go into further detail below), everything went fairly smoothly. I was able to add the printer and print a test page, but when the test page came out, everything was mirrored. I blurred the printer information because I just grabbed the image off the net and reversed it. The printer information on the image had nothing to do with my own printer. Now about the things that were slightly different than in the steps from the link above:
Step 4: there was no usb printer item in the list, but the printer name DID show up: HP Deskjet 6500 Series usb, so I selected that
Step 5: I did not have to enter the URI manually. I think by selecting the printer name in Step 4, it automatically entered the URI of the printer.
The printer is a HP Deskjet 6540 running on OS 10.5, fully updated. The Windows machine is running XP SP3, fully updated. I've done a lot of fiddling around and just can't figure it out. The driver I'm using on the windows machine is the drive directly from the HP website for my specific HP printer. Alternatively, I also tried adding the printer to CUPS by the following steps:
- start terminal
- type lpinfo -v to get the URI of the printer
- type lpadmin -p <printername> -E -v <uri> -m raw
I have my Mac Pro connected to my hp c3100 printer. It is shared, all sharing options are enabled on the Mac Pro. 2 Macbooks and an iMac cannot find or see this printer. Networking, screensharing, file transfers, they all work fine. Just can't see the printer. Is AppleTalk required to do this? Here's some screenshots from the Mac Pro. I have never tried to network a printer in Leopard, I seem to remember it was easier in Tiger.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to install the Canon MP520 printer to my MBP. The printer is connected to another a PC running windows and is shared. I installed the OSX driver provided on the Canon page, I can see the printer in the network printers but when I am asked to choose the driver I can't see the correct model listed. On the other hand, if I simply connect the same printer via USB, to my MBP it is recognized directly. When I'm asked to provide the driver while adding the printer via the network, there is also the option to browse to the driver location. So my question is, where are the can I find the right driver on the OS?
