View 2 RepliesI want to see the screen of a Tiger machine on my Leopard machine - the Tiger machine is not on a local network but is on the internet. I have Apple remote Desktop 3.2, maybe leopards ichat will do it?
Can someone run me through it step by step??
I know that snow leopard was supposed to make scanner sharing easier, but this just isn't happening for me!! Its really odd.
I have two imacs (24" and 27" brand new one). The scanner is hooked up to the 27" imac and both computers are running 10.6.2
The 24 is networked to the 27. We share files and can share printers. I have had no problem with me printing to his computer and him printing to mine.
We also can both move files back and forth to each other without an issue.
We have opened the system preferences on the 27" imac and selected "scanner sharing" and then we can see the scanner that is hooked to that computer and selected it. Then we closed the lock icon to keep it that way. The preferences should be all set.
HOWEVER, i still can not import from the scanner and can not see the scanner from my computer.
ALSO, when we open IMAGE CAPTURE on the computer that is directly connected to that scanner, I can see the scanner under devices, but it does not show under shared devices.
It used to be that you can set the sharing in the image caputer program - apparently now you can not.. but in trying to make it easier, it seems something got lost.
I just read through three pages of google results when searching this forum and nothing.. just a load of threads saying that Snow Leopard CAN, in fact, share a scanner..

I downloaded Snow Leopard to my iMac. I am trying to download on to my MacBook Air (as a shared CD with wireless network at home). All connected, transferred, but cannot open due to (message), "cannot download with WEP-protected wireless".

After stumbling across a few threads talking about not being able to share an ethernet connection over wifi in Snow Leopard and I'm trying to figure out if this is isolated or just a glitch in Snow Leopard. Does anyone have this working?
For example my laptop hooks to ethernet, and I usually share my internet connection from my laptop to my iPhone via wifi (long story but its the only solution I have since iPhone has no ethernet port).
I need to make sure this is possible in snow leopard before my snow leopard equipped laptop comes.
How do I do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn tiger, I could connect to windows file shares quite easily, if I recall:
1. in Finder, use "Go" -> "Connect to Server"
2. Enter smb://servername/sharename
3. Click "Connect"
In Snow Leopard, I do this and I'm prompted for a login, but it WILL NOT take my windows domain / username and password.
I'm trying to share a folder between users on a single mac. I want both users to be able to read and write so the folder stays current on both accounts. I put the folder in "shared," set permissions on folder so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.Â
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'v been running Leopard on my wife's MacBook Pro since we got it in May. We have a Canon MF4150 attached to it via USB and have been sharing it out from the Mac. I have been using Bonjour and have been printing just fine from both my XP machine and my daughter's Vista machine. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. I upgraded the drivers to the Snow Leopard compatible drivers from Canon and everything prints fine from the Mac. However, whenever we try to print from one of the Windows machine I get this popup on the Mac: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver key value specified for ticket does not exist.: 15512" And the printer is now "paused" whatever that means. When I try to unpause it, I get that some popup error. I end up having to delete the printer and re-add it to get printing (from the Mac) working again. I've deleted and re-added the printer many times. I even went to far as to remove the drive on the Mac manually (according to Canon's directions) and reinstall. I've deleted/recreated the printers on Windows using the Bonjour wizard.

I know you could screen share easily in iChat, but I have since updated to Messages Beta and it doesn't work. How can I screen share over the internet with a Mac that isn't on my network? I am having a lot of difficulty. I run 10.7.3

When I am in the office connected via the local LAN the share screen button in Finder is displayed. When I am at home anc connected via broadband I can still see the server and shares but I have no share screen button. Is there a preference that needs to be set somewhere to enable the remote share screen or is it more likely to be a firewall issue with a blocked port?

Apple writes in its OS X Lion screen sharing description that: "You can remotely log in to a Mac with any user account on that computer and control it, without interrupting someone else who might be using the computer under a different login."Â
Unfortunately, this is not true in my case: When other users are using my 2011 iMac for webbrowsing or DVD watching and I log in on my own acount from my macbook pro, video will stop playing, the spinning wheel sometime appears. The system does not really crash, but wil respond very slowly and in fact is not useable until I as remote user stop my activities or log out. This is not how it should be, especially as the iMac's CPU, memory and network load are very low according to activity monitor's information.Â

My daughter has dropped her ageing MBP, bent the screen lid and now the screen is no longer usable. We have other Macs available to access the data on the screen if we could turn on Screen Sharing on the damaged MBP running Snow Leopard.Â

When viewing a page of anything, my screen reverts to the previous screen I was viewing. Also when looking at a map with zoom and out zoom the controls are of their own mind and always go to the max adjustment bypassing the incremental changes I want. Its very annoying.Â

After updating from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1 I was not able to use screen sharing any more to connect to a machine running 10.5.8. If I click on "Share Sreen..." in finder, by default my short name is used (e.g. jwhite) Using the correct password I was faced with the message: (Authentication failed to "...".) Please verify you have entered the correct name and password. This worked fine in Leopard to Leopard. Snow Leopard to Leopard did not work. Trying a lot of things I managed to use screen sharing without a problem by using the full name (e.g. John White instead of jwhite)
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have been having issues with mac users who have the new mac book pro with the retina display, apparently the native screen size is too large for the web ex and logmein services to display. they are currently aware of the situation but there is no resolution date, is there any way to lower the resolution. we tried to have some peopel lower the settings but there is no resolution setting where the user can lower it to a much smaller size like 1024 x 768. the web ex app is usally ran through java.

I remember seeing rumours about a possible screen capture program being included with Snow Leopard. While I was just scrolling through all the new features on the Apple website for Snow Leopard I saw this:
Record your screen.
Catch the action taking place on your screen with screen recording. Start recording and QuickTime Player captures the activity on your screen and creates a movie file. Its perfect for creating instructional media or when you need more than a simple screen shot.[URL]
I don't know if I missed the point at which everyone else found this but it came as a surprise to me. Are there any developers that can elaborate on how good this is and how it works?
What are you using?
I'm currently using spotlight.
Does anybody know what's going on here? (see pics) This happens sometimes and I can't figure out why. If i move a window over it, the corrupt parts stay the same underneath if that makes any sense.
It's a MBA REVA, and i had the logic board replaced by Apple for free in January in the hope to reduce some heat issues. But it didn't really work. Other than that the machine is in top order.
since installing sl, my imac itself works fine however i am stuck with a solid blue wallpaper. everytime i try and change it, it goes back to blue screen within 30 seconds or so. not a crashing problem like others have faced, but annoying nonetheless. got to second level of apple support and still could not figure it out. anyone have any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI remember reading some threads pre-SL days where people mentioned a new Screen Recording tool. But I can't find it anywhere.
I'm interested in recording my desktop (keynote, videos, audio, me) for education purposes. I'm demoing Screenflow now (love it to death) but are there any native options that I'm missing? Was this tool added to SL and I just can't find it?
A while after I installed Snow Leopard I started to notice odd glitches I can't think how to describe them. They appear randomly and don't follow anything specific. Anyway has anyone else experienced these? They only started appearing once I had snow leopard installed. I have an early 2008 Macbook 2.4 GHz with an Intel GMA X3100.
Here are some screenshots so you can see what I'm on about.
When I try to take rapid fire screen captures (5-7 caps/sec) using the shortcut keys, only a 3-4 of these captures will show up on the desktop, and it generally takes 5-7 seconds for them to call show up. I never had a problem doing this until I reformatted/reinstalled snow leopard over the weekend - even when all programs are shut down this lag occurs.

I have had a string of bad luck with my mac, a couple of days ago the screen started flickering and my mac froze (could still move trackpad mouse, not click). It started up fine again.. It did this a couple times more (had to restart pressing power button). Then it froze evereytime I put the power cable in it. I solved this problem with an PRAM reset.
But now it still freezes up, the screen will start flickering and i can only move the mouse. When i try to reboot it gets stuck on the grey screen. only once every 20 times Ill get into the os.
I have tried a pram reset, holding the power button, safe mode, hardware test (no probs found), starting up without external devices.
It wont boot from the cd if it is stuck on the grey screen...
Could someone may be tell me what to do? thinking about bringing it to the store tomorrow .
