May 20, 2012I have updated to 10.7.4, and now Time Machine does not work on my Time Capsule. I have erased all backups using the Airport Utility. When I try to run Time Machine, the disk is mounted, files are calculated, backup starts, then stops, and no backup is done. Also, no error messages.Â

Jun 6, 2014My time machine backup isnt working for the last few months. The backup is located on a QNAP TS-670. Â
I can look for the TM and the iMac see the TM, but if I start the backup, a popup comes up. "The image of the backup-volume "/Volume/TMBackup/Danielas iMac.sparsebundle" cant be accessed. (Error -1)
Maybe it is not the exact error message in english, but I hope you know what I mean. Im working on a german system.Â
I can access the TM-Share through the finder (share: afp://[...]).Â

OS X Mountain Lion :: Restoring Keychain From Time Machine Didn't Work
Sep 6, 2014This morning I thought I was deleting the keychain password to one account, when I accidentally deleted all of my keychain storage items. I followed the directions from the Support Community to restore the Keychain Folder using my Time Machine backup. I even restored the .plist files. Â
However, now when I open a site in Safari, only the user name is pre-populated, but not the password. When Safari asks me if I want to save the password in my Keychain, an error message pops up telling me "A keychain cannot be found to store password."  I'm given the option to Cancel or Reset to Defaults. I'm not sure what to do. I'm even afraid to restart my Mac fearing I won't be able to log in or connect to my wifi network.Â
I also cannot get any of my emails through the Mail application. It keeps prompting me to enter my password, but then won't allow me to hit the Okay button b/c it's grayed-out.Â

OS X :: Online Movies Play Differently When Logged In, And Wife Is Logged In?
May 16, 2009I know there is something simple I�m overlooking, but I can�t figure out what it is. There is a website (subscription) that my wife likes to go to watch streaming movies and TV. When she logs into our iMac, goes to the website, and clicks on a movie to watch, the movie opens in the websites own movie player. When I�m logged into our iMac under my user name, go to the same website and click on the same movie, QuickTime launches and plays the video in a separate QT player. The QT and Safari preferences are set the same when either of us are logged in, so why when I log in do movies play in QT, and when my wife log in they play in the websites movie player? Is there something other than preferences that may be set different? What other settings should I be comparing? BTW, my account is the Administrator account.

Sep 3, 2009Since I just lost my hard drive on my iMac 24 Intel, I am using external hard drive to backup via Time Machine. My question is what procedures are needed when you disconnect ext. hard drive? Do you change Time Machine from ON to OFF?
I know that I have to eject the ext. hard drive using proper commands, but what happens whenever I reinstall the ext. hard drive? Does Time Machine start over from the beginning or just update for changes since my last backup via Time Machine?
When I go on trips, I store ext hard drive in a safe and this is why I am asking.

Mar 9, 2012I cannot enter the time machine when I press the time machine icon. I press and nothing happens, so I'm not sure even if it is backing up at this point. When i go to my Tme Capsule it has the folder there for back-ups and the most recent, but no access from the icon.

May 18, 2012I am trying to run a .app via crontab that will run even if I, or any user, is not logged into the Mac. It's a piece of software designed to transfer a specific dataset on a scheduled interval to another server in order to keep my client's data up to date. I can get the application to run just fine via cron if I am logged into the machine, but if I log out when the cronjob runs, I get this error in my log:Â

Feb 21, 2008I've just got my iMac so for me it was important to get TM up and running before I start doing some real work (and hard play!).
I want to share the lessons learned from my experience and from others in this forum in the hope that it will help others.
I am using a NS4300N NAS from Promise on a LAN with an iMac running Leopard 10.5.2. I connect to it using SMB. It should work with any NAS since the instructions here are not NAS specific. I haven't tried with AFP.

Jan 6, 2008I notice that Spotlight only says "indexing" after I restart the computer, which isn't that often.
But that's not the only time it indexes, right? Does it index a file whenever it's created or moved?
And what about Time Machine? Again, after restarting the computer, my external backup drive that I use with Time Machine is indexed. But I never notice it being indexed when I don't restart.
Does Spotlight have to index it, or does TM handle that somehow? I mean, can I put my backup disk on Spotlight's ignore list, and still have Spotlight in Time Machine work fine?

I need an external drive so that I can make sure that my work is backed up; I believe that Time Machine takes a new backup each time a file is edited?
Anyway; does the external drive have to be partitioned or formatted in any particular way for time machine to function?
I ask because I would like to use my external drive to store games and music (as a backup, not a primary source), but also be able to use it with time machine.
Also, does time machine make a copy of the entire mac drive, or does it just backup specific folders (such as your user areas). If so, can I select these myself?
OS X :: Won't Work With Kernel / Backup With Time Machine
Sep 14, 2009I've installed SL on my Mac Pro from scratch (Clean Install). Then I created my first backup with Time Machine. (550GB) After two weeks, I found out that I could boot my machine into the 64 bits kernel. So I did. I booted with the 6 + 4 keys during startup and I've checked and I was using the 64bits kernel. Then I week later without adding no new data, I caught a time machine backup with over 350GB backup. (Which match the data on my third hard drive.)
I was wondering if by changing the kernel did Time Machine "thinks" that it is a new backup a take some files from my drives protected by the backup.

Mar 13, 2012I am trying to delete files from my USB Iomega HD in order for Time Machine (TM) backup to work. TM keeps giving me an error msg that disc is full. I then try to delete files from usb to the trash and the error msg I keep getting will not allow me to do this. The error message is some files are locked/unlocked and when I press either it cancels deleting files from the USB hard drive. I thought that every time you use back up using TM it gets rid of the earliest files, hence I should not have multiple copies of the same files on the USB hard drive.
