OS X V10.7 Lion :: Recovery HD Does Not Work - How To Do Clean Install

Jun 28, 2012

I have a problem with the recovery partition on my SSD. There is a recovery partition. I can se it in the disk utility but it's seems like it's not working. When I boot the system with the option key I can select the recovery hd but when I do I just get a grey screen with a "forbidden" sign and the computer turns it self off a minute later.I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13". I swapped the internal drive to a Samsung 830 SSD but the only way i could get it to boot was to clone the original disk to my new SSD, otherwise the computer couldn't find the drive.

It just booted up with the same grey screen with the "forbidden" sign just like when i now try to boot into the recovery HD.I made a bootstick with the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0 but it can't boot from that one either. I even made it on a different computer running Lion with a working Recovery HD.I also tried to boot from a Lion dvd (and usb) I made from the image I got from the appstore but of course, the same grey sceen appears. The question now is; how do I get a working Recovery HD in Lion so I can make a clean install? The system is running fine with the clone from the original disk but I want that Recovery HD.

OS X :: Unable To Retrieve Lost File / Backup Created Using Time Machine

Mar 25, 2010

I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like

xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.

This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought. Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !

Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?

All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.

OS X :: Using A Macbook Recovery CD Instead Of Leopard Install CD?

Jan 7, 2009

Ok, so this is probably a huge no-no but I have to ask. I'm currently on OSX 10.4.11 and I want to make that leap into Leopard but I'm not trying to shell out $130 if I don't have to.

Can I just use my friend's Recovery CD he got in the box with his Leopard Macbook? The specs are slightly different but it's essentially the same thing.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unable To Install Windows

May 9, 2012

So i have a Mid 2010 iMac 27" - 2.93 Ghz. i7, 16 GB, with a 2 TB Drive, and 10.7.3 running on it. About a month ago, my Superdirve broke, and i cant install anything. As i need my Computer due to work, i bouth an Asus BD + DVD + CD - Combo-Drive-thingy, which works perfectly fine, BUT now i wanted to install Win8 Consumer Preview over my Win7.

Firstly i couldnt, because you cant do that with the Installer on 32 bit, to install 64 bit Then i tried it via Bootcamp, so i had to delete the old drive. Then i wanted to make a new one via the Bootcamp Assistent, downloaded the Drivers, burnt them, and put the Win8 DVD in the Asus Drive. Then it told me to put the Windows DVD in, because he didnt recognise it from the Asus Drive. But i cant, because the Superdrive is broken. So i rebooted, and i got into the Windows Install Thingy, but aswell this didnt recognise the DVD because the Drive is only connected via

2 USB Ports. So next, i made a Win8 Install USB-Flashdrive, and this should work perfectly fine normally, but just aswell, it didnt recognise it. So then i installed rEFIt, and tried to get to the installer with that, somehow. no chance.

MacBook Air :: Custom OS X Install With Recovery Disc?

May 6, 2009

I was installing a retail version of OS X the other day on a Dell Mini 9 and I realized you could customize the install by removing printer drivers and languages that you didn't want... saving about 8+ GB or so of space. I was wondering if the recovery disc that comes with our Air also allows us to customize what options we can include, assuming I do a fresh install.
