OS X V10.7 Lion :: UN-Deletable Ds_Â File?
Mar 23, 2012
I found a ds_.... type file on my desktop after opening a spreadsheet. When I tried deleting the file, it came back as soon as I clicked the "empty trash" menu. I tried opening it to see what it is, but got a message there was no app associated to open it. But it had about 6kb of data on it.  I checked to make sure it wasn't locked, and it wasn't. I renamed it as a .jpg file, deleted it, and again as soon as I hit empty trash, it came back on the desk top as a ds_ file. There are no other programs running, so it's not part of an active program. I don't know what's inside or exactly where it came from and don't know why after I empty the trash, it automatically pops up again on the desktop. How do I get rid of it?

The selected file does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file or a valid tab delimited file. Choose a different file.

I have a disk image .dmg file, and chage the icon by highlighting the file in Finder, then press Command-I. Then I'll copy and past a new icon in the file information dialog box. I can then see the new icon in the finder, and also the icon for this file in the dock changes. Great. Then I'll rsync the .dmg file from one Mac to another, and the icon reverts to the default icon for .dmg files. Is there any way to make the icon change stick, when copying the file to another Mac?Â

I managed to successfully hide the file: cat picture.jpg hidden.rtf.zip > picture2.jpg
results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.

Once side effect of Lion's new file storage system (automatic saving, versioning, etc.) is that sometimes I'm just not sure where a file is located when I pull it from the Open Recent list. Yes, there are occasions when the Open Recent list isn't determining the location of the file I'm about to load. Before, I could simply choose File | Save As... and the file dialog would show me where the file was located. But Save As is now gone. Is there any way to tell where a file is located, say, once I've loaded it in Keynote or Page via Open Recent?

When I put it in the trash and tries to delete it, it tells me that it is in use, even if it's not, and no program but the finder is running.So I've gone with the terminal solution.I type "sudo rm-f " with a space after the f, drag my file. It ask me for my password that I type, and it says command not found.And then if I type sudo rm-f again, it tells me again that the command is not found.It was like a second ago, and not anymore?Does anyone have an idea on how to get rid of that file?
