I have 2 users set up on my MBP. About 30% of the time when I try to switch users, by clicking on the current user name in the top right of the screen then choosing either the other user's name or choosing Login Sreen... I get the spinning ball and it's then difficult to do anything.
If I've clicked on the other user's name, the screen fades and I get the password prompt for that other user. I enter the password, and the spinning wheel underneath that spins (as it normally does briefly while validating the password) indefinitely. I can't cancel out of it as I can't click on the cancel button with the spinning ball. The only way I can continue to use the Mac is if I was using a full screen app and can swipe left or right with four fingers to another "space" (not sure this is the right word). That space then works correctly. If I go back to the previous space, the screen is still dimmed with the password prompt and the spinning wheel and can't do anything with it.
It won't let me log off by doing command+shift+Q. It won't let me shut down. So the only way to get out of this is to hold the power button until the Mac turns off.
I have a dozen of macs connected to a mac mini server. This one is programmed to automatically switch on at 8:00 am and switch off at 8:00 pm. However, if a user is still connected at time of switchng off (8:00 pm) it cannot switch off automatically and a window appears saying another user is still connected, do you still wish to disconnect. If administrator is no more there to click yes, server does not switch off and still runs all night long. On former versions (10.4 or 10.5 ?) it worked the other way, ie other users were informed that server would be disconnected in the next one minute and that they had to save their work.
Is there a solution to come back to a similar way of proceeding?
I'm running Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Right now I operate everything under the admin user profile. It has been suggested that I should not be operating all of my daily work using the admin account, I should be using a standard user account, and the admin should remain for admin purposes only. Is it possible to switch the admin rights to a different user account, and then I keep the account I've been working in, have all software and preferences loaded in and make it a standard account? Or can I duplicate my admin account and use the duplicated user account for working in, and the original as the admin? Trying to keep from having to reload all software, passwords, copy work, etc. Since I don't understand this fully, not sure how to accomplish this.
change mouse settings from default for user Aswitch to user Bswitch back to user A changes to mouse settings have been wiped and the default mouse settings restored..I've tried various things with user A like logging off entirely, rebooting, even making other changes in the settings that require an admin password in the hope that this might force some sort of admin override
The problem is sometimes switching from one user to another, we are able to type in a password, but the login and back buttons are disabled, like you are not able to click on them. It is basically frozen and we have to manually shut it down.
I have two users on my mac mini running OS X 10.7.4, both are administrators. When I click on my username in the upper right hand corner of the screen and select the second user, I can type in the password and "rotate" on over to the other user. However, from the second user account when I try and go back to the first user via the same process, no prompt appears when clicking on the user name from the drop down in the top right of the screen.
I have been trying to read Personal ancestry Files, and had downloaded an application to help me do this. I decided I didn't want the application and so I deleted it, and before I emptied the trach, my computer froze. I powered down, then rebooted, the desktop loaded then while my computer was asking my me if I was sure I wanted to delete the files, it forze again. SInce the, it has been stuck on the blue screen countless times, spinning on the Apple screen. I found out how to check my disk, as I do not have my OSX CD, with fsck -fy, and after a few tries, the systme says the Hardrive appears to be ok, (this is after it said it was modified, I ran it a few more times to be sure). NOw I was trying to back up my computer one last time from single user mode, so I could start using the Ulantu disk, as I don't really have any other options. NOw my computer freezes as sson as I type anything after the fsck come up ok.
I thought I had a good plan. I have no idea what to do here, other than what I have been able to google...I ought I could simply use the unix lines that I found to help me and backup but I cannot even do that now. Maybe I am out of memory?
My machine is an iBook G4, running OS 10.5.4 I believe. I installed the latest updates recently.
I purchased App for MacBook. It is alternative to lock screen.
I set password etc followed instructions (no need of lecture me) and it has locked me out of my MacBook and the password I set up does not work...
Im just wondering if there is a way to delete this App without having to log in as the only other account on my MacBook is Guest. I can't use my Mac at all with this app as it will not allow me to enter my account
If I select from the menu bar another available wireless network (one without a password for example) and then switch back to my own wi-fi network, am I still safe?
Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?
I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?
Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.
Over the past month Lion has been crashing, running slow and freezing constantly.\ I am not used to having so many PC type issues on my Mac. I have done Disk repair in utilities and removed unecessary programs at start up.
I had to reinstall Lion on my Macbook Pro and everything went back to default settings. I have 4 desktops that I use and I used to be able to switch between them by hitting command and an arrow key but now that's not working! I've tried going into keyboard settings under system preferences but that didn't work.
I have a Logitech webcam that I want to share between a Mac mini with lion and a windows 7 desktop. I used to be able to share using a Belkin peripheral switch. But I can't use it in lion because it runs on PowerPC. Any ideas for a replacement for it so I don't have to take out the USB cord on the camera every time I want to switch computers?
I have updated to Lion, and now every time i turn on the Mac, applications open without be requested. Can this be stopped? Also updates keep failing because it says applications are open when they are not? Not liking Lion!
I'm trying to switch off 'Versions' in Safari on my mother's MacBook Pro because she's frustrated that Safari doesn't open on her homepage every time she launches it but instead re-opens the windows / tabs from her last session.
Does anyone know how to launch the alert box that lets you untick the option for Safari to 'remember' your windows / tabs from your last session?
(I even tried shutting down to see if the alert box would appear but it didn't.)
Just FYI - solutions I've already suggested to her are:
• Close all open tabs and windows before quitting Safari - so it *opens to her homepage on launch, (*she insists that doesn't always work though. Has anyone here experienced that?)
• Alternatively, open Safari Preferences and choose to make each new tab open on her homepage as well as new windows, (but she doesn't want to do that.)
I have a Korean language keyboard that I'm using with Lion that has a key next to the spacebar for switching language (han/yang = korean/english). I would like to use this key to switch languages rather than apple space. Is there any way to make this happen? I tried changing the keyboard shortcuts, but am unable to do so. The OS doesn't recognize the key.
So I was following some tutorials online about assigning desktops to shortcut keys, and I created 10 total desktops just so I can assign/play around with the keys. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can't assign a shortcut to desktops 2, 3 and 4. I tried different key combinations and it does not work. I know that control + 5 works for desktop 5, so assigned that key command (temporarily, and I made sure that desktop 5 shortcut was different by changing it to shift+command+5) to desktops 2 3 & 4 and it still doesn't switch. Something is preventing these desktops from linking to a shortcut. Not even control+left arrow/right arrow works.
I also tried removing and re-adding the desktops with no success.
I did the entire Migrate Assistant process to transfer all my files and what not to my MacBook. Problem is that I did it on separate occasions and now I have several accounts. How can I transfer my files from the other accounts to my primary account and delete the other accounts?
After you have moved all of you music from your pc to iTunes...how do you maintain the playlist. After 12 hours I transferred all of my music, but don't have the playlists preserved that I have on my PC
Since downloading OS Lion my ML-1660 laser printer won't print unless I switch it off then switch it back on. It then prints OK. If I want to print another document I have to sw. off and on again. This problem doesn't happen on my Epson RX520 3 in 1 printer.
I've downloaded the latest Samsung driver software but this makes no difference.
I have a MacBook Pro that's running OS X 10.7.4 and it's stuck in Spanish language. I've tried reseting the Language Preference to English in the System Preferences, but it still uses Spanish for Login, and different warnings, etc. How can I fix this, and make it English across the entire system?
Within the past couple of days, my macbook pro has been freezing randomly, something it has never done, and the WiFi will shut off and will not turn back on unless I restart the computer.
