Software :: QuarkXPress Crashes - Cannot Link Across Master Page Items
Nov 14, 2005The error is confusing; it goes something like: "Cannot link across master page items" and brings me from my page, to the master page and keeps coming up with this same warning each time I try to Undo, or when I try to go back to my body page, it wont let me because of some crossed link?
This is very confusing to describe, but hopefully someone else has had this exact problem and luckily they have been able to fix this problem because when I Force Quit or either revert to last saved (this has happened to me twice now) it crashes Quark and the file is unreadable. I'm thinking of because this linking problem, it makes Quark crash.

Feb 2, 2012Do NOT update to Mac OS X Version 10.7.3 if you use QuarkXPress 9 or 8.5 as Quark is not compatible and will not show the icons in the Tools window. You will need to revert to OS X Version 10.7.2 to get full function back for Quark

OS9/OS8/System 7 :: Collection Of Fonts Crashes System When Opened In Finder?
May 21, 2012I have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.

Apr 28, 2008When using QuarkExpress 7.31 on OSX 10.5.1 I am having the following problems which never happened in OSX 10.4. Using the Finder through Quark when looking for a job on my server, I locate the job but there is no preview just an Icon. When saving a job with the same name as a previous job in the same folder it now just overwrites the old job without a warning.

Jun 12, 2012Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.4 I've had some major annoyances rear their heads with my 2011 iMac. The issue I'm looking for help with, though it may seem small, is with the Safari search bar. I know there have been discussions before about this and I've always had a difficult relationship with the search bar as it is supposed to change to your 'local' search engine, e.g. for me that would be Google UK, yet it has often defaulted to Google US which means that searches can be a little less relevant at times. Anyway, for months things have been fine. The search bar defaulted to Google UK until the 10.7.4 update hit... All of a sudden my Google search bar now defaults to Google.com in GREEK...Â
Since I don't speak a word of Greek, I'm sure you can see how this has become an issue. I've tried all manner of things, resetting safari, changing language settings but have been unable to get it to change back. I tried changing to Bing search but to be honest, Google search in Greek is a **** of a lot more useful than Bing in English is, which I think says a lot. I did have greek as a secondary keyboard layout so that I could use the greek characters for my physics work but UK English has always been my default and I have since removed Greek yet the search bar stays the same. It's really becoming irritating now as every time I search it sets my whole Google experience to Greek with a cookie so any google.com service I use ends up in Greek and it's a pain to reset it.Â

Dec 18, 2008Currently I'm trying to look up something in the SVN book on line, and it's all Greek characters. If I view page source, the characters are displayed in the proper font. Google searches show several others having this problem, but no one had a solution. Someone posted a solution here, but it was redacted for some reason and the only part that makes sense is that I should but a product called Suitcase Fusion. I refuse to pay money to make my Mac stop displaying characters in Greek font at random. In some circles that can be considered extortion.

Software :: QuarkXPress 6.52 Failing To Print Files (Verdana Font)
Jun 25, 2010When printing from PPC or Intel Macs running 10.4 or 10.5, Quark fails to print files containing Verdana. On 10.5 Macs, the file prints, but substitutes Courier. On 10.4 Macs, the file fails without notification. It just disappears from the queue. I've tested copying the text to InDesign CS3 and it prints just fine. I've tested printing to four different HP LJ models, they all fail the same. One printer (HP LJ 9050) kicks out an error and requires a reboot: 49.60FF. Copying the font(s) from a Mac that prints fine does not work. I've thought about trashing the Quark preferences, but am waiting for a window.

Mar 13, 2012Apparently I have some corrupted fonts which I have not been able to remove. I disable them, restart computer and some enabled again. Attempt to remove via comand, occasionally they appear in trash but some have the grayed out "remove font..."

May 3, 2012I recently installed OS X Lion. In my users/name folder I had a folder I named "Fonts Unused" that was right under my actual Fonts folder, where I put different styles in that I wasn't using... to save memory. I put the styles in the normal Fonts folder as needed. Since Lion, those folders are all GONE! I'm talking hundreds of great fonts I'd collected over the years.

May 22, 2012The Fonts I'm attempting to use were downladed from a reputable website I have done business with for years. Never had any problems using their stuff before on any platform: PC/Windows, Mac, Linux, or Free BSD. The Fonts are activated, but when I Validate them in Font Book I get the Message: 'Name' Table Structure [With a Yellow ( ! ) next to it]. What does this mean? How do I fix it? I can see the Fonts in Font Book, I can open them, Preview them, but I cannot use them in ANY application! They refuse to show up in the font list for Word, Pages, and even Gimp!   I see other people having similar problems, but not exactly like the one I am having. I have tried all the propper proceedures and nothing has worked so far.Â

It altered my helvetica font in a way that will cost me hundreds of hours re-kerning / resizing / repositioning text in CAD files for at least 10 large scale projects in progress at my architecture office.

Jul 3, 2012I want to be able to compare the full repertoire (all the characters) in fonts without installing them in my system. As far as I can tell there is no way to do this in font book. The reason I want to do this is that I am trying to compare different versions of the same font with different character support (e.g. Latin 1 vs WGL). At the moment I keep having to delete and then reinstall the font, which isn't great.

Jun 26, 2014In My Suitcase 5, I can see a list of OSX System Fonts > Local, (such as Calibri, Calisto MT, etc.). I realized I cannot locate these fonts anywhere on the HD. I see them in Suitcase and they load, but the physical files are nowhere to be found. I did a search in Finder for Calibri — nothing, like it doesn't exist. I went to all 3 common system fonts folders — nothing. I went to Users / Library/ Fonts — nothing.Â
Where are these fonts, really?

Feb 28, 2012I just installed Lion and now all of all the fonts that I have in my Library>Fonts folder, only about 1/3 are showing when I launch apps such as Illustrator or Motion. They are normal fonts, like Avenir, not crazy fonts that I downloaded for free. They are there, yet not showing in the font menus of the applications.Â

Mar 14, 2012Having upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, the TextEdit 1.7 (289.3) application does not display any fonts placed in Users area: Mac HD/Users/Library/Fonts. But the same fonts are OK when placed at Public area: Mac HD/Library/Fonts. Tried Repairing Permission via Disk Utility with no joy. Although fonts placed at Users area don't display in TextEdit, they do display in Quark XPress, FileMaker, OpenOffice, Illustrator etc, etc.

Jun 27, 2012Until recently, all the fonts I have installed have been permanently enabled then a few days ago, I opened Pages and was informed that some of the fonts I regularly use in most of my documents, Optima Bold, Optima Italic, Optma Bold Italic, were not active - Optima Regular was.Â
I went into Font Book and found that there were many fonts which were no longer enabled. I enabled them all and carried on with my work.Â
But now, I have discovered that every time I reboot, these fonts are disabled again. Surely there must be a way to permanently enable fonts.Â

Retrieving Fonts From Initial Lion Rescue Disk
Jul 5, 2012I have a project to do in iBook Author, and Apple have provided a list of fonts that can are used in iOS, but I cannot seem to find them on my system. When my mac was inistially set up, all fonts unecessary for the system were removed to avoid any clashes with our in-house fonts, so I'm not sure if the Lion mac initially shipped with the iOS fonts installed. In the 'old days', I'd simply put the system disk in the mac and use a utility like 'pacifist' to explore the contents of the intallation disk, and retrieve the fonts from there – but in Lion, all I have is this 'Rescue Disk'. How would I go about retrieving fonts from there without touching anything else on my system?
