I went to the Fsecure link and followed some of the steps on terminal. None of the file names came up so it seems like my computer is clean, but how can I be 100% sure? What's a good virus/malware/trojan scan I can run on my computer to be 100% sure?

Apr 25, 2012My internet will be cut off in 48 hours unless I remove this virus. I got an e-mail saying I was infected with this flashback virus. I called Rogers to confirm that it wasn't a phishing e-mail and it is legitimate. The only thing they did was give me numbers to a paid technical support line, I'd prefer not to call and pay. I went online and found a tutorial for removing it using Terminal, which I tried and got the error messages which apparently means I'm not affected. How do I remove this virus before my internet gets cut off? I am operating a MAC OSX 10.5.8 software system on my macbook?

Mar 14, 2012I was recently alerted by my internet company that my computer was infected with a virus called “dns changer.” Upon further inspection I found that one of my DNS servers matched up with a list of known rogue DNS servers. I have downloaded several virus scanning programs, such as macscan and virusbarrier x6 which were recommended to me. They didn’t turn up anything. I’ve been through the OS X 10.7 topics on the mac community as well as other websites (couldn’t find the “plugins.settings” in my Internet Plug-Ins folder and tried to pry it out using terminal). The same bad DNS server has mysteriously appeared on other computers that use the same internet connection out of my home and have not have any untrustworthy downloads.

May 19, 2012A few days ago, ClamXav detected infected files when scanning my mail data base. One of wich was a phishing kind of mesage, and the other was defined as a trojan. It turns out that they were mesages from 2009, by the time when i had a G5 Power PC. I've never open theme, nor clicked the links attached. Now i have a new Mac, but those mails are still in the data base; i think they migrated from my imap account. Any way, i red the ClamXav developper's page and he says that its not advisable to trash out or put this kind of files into quarantine. it bothers me that they still remain in my user's library.

In item 2,based on multiple results,my apparent next step would be to contact "our customer care" but I am not F-Secure customer and instructions as to exactly whom and how I am to contact them are lacking. For various reasons I did have Java installed and enabled in Safari.

Apr 9, 2012And so the Flashback saga continues. About a couple of days before the Java patch hit I encountered the now dreaded Software Update login screen. I did not enter my password, hit cancel, popped back up and hit cancel again. So here is the issue, at the time this happened I had iAntivirus installed which is one of the application this malware looks for when installing orginially according to F-Secure. (apparently it doesn't work on Lion which might be the issue). Since I hit cancel it would have still tried to continue with the second variation but I also have Office 2011 (also one of the applications this looks for before self deleting according to F-Secure).
I panicked when popular news broke about this and following the terminal commands provided by F-secure discovered that for all 3 commands, there was nothing that existed and became relieved and updated Java with the new update...until I proceeded to download ClamXav (app store free version) as a future precautionary measure. This is when I ran a scan and discover 2 OSX Flashback-8 infections. One .null and one .rserv. Both of which I promptly removed, which sent them to the trash. When I attempted emptying the trash neither could be permanently deleted bc both were "in use".
How do I still have the trojan, virus, malware or whatever you want to call it if terminal found nothing but ClamXav did? Is this just a variation that hasn't really been encountered before?
I should also note that in my Library I have both null. plist and com. adobe. reader. plist that had been recently modified in the last couple of weeks (these were mentioned in several articles as potential launcher files.
Any thoughts or should I just completely restore my Macbook Pro?

May 8, 2012I have the following question: I have checked my mac on flashback with flashback removal tool from Kaspersky. It detected (nd removed then) flashback although I have OS X.7. But every time I start the computer, the virus is detected by the removal tool again...However, all other anti-virus programmes are detecting no threat. i have also installed the malware removal app from apple. So I definitely do not understand why the Kaspersky tool is still detecting the virus.

May 9, 2012I went through some fairly difficult procedures to rid my computer of Flashback and quickly got in over my head. So I called tech support, and they told me, if I have OS X 10.7 and do software updates regularly, that I have nothing to worry about. They said Safari is not compromised, and there's no reason not to enable Java. They said software updates is more important than any third party anti-virus or anti-malware software that I could run. I would like to know what some of you in the forum think about these issues.
