OS X V10.7 Lion :: Extremely Slow Computer Even After Replacing Hard Drive

when I upgraded to lion (I think). I also run VMware fusion with windows 7 so maybe a virus? I ran disk utilities, followed suggestions on these communities to no avail. Our IT person and then apple support told me I should replace the hard drive. So I did. I played around a little bit and everything seemed good. Then I did a full restore from time capsule and everything is going downhill again.
Here's my best try yet in describing it:My hard drive seems to be dominating my computing.Frequently, when trying to perform simple functions, I can hear my hard drive spinning often accompanied by a spinning beach ball. It makes my computing sluggish for a good handful of moments, then it is back to being smooth.
I can only compare it to times when i've worked on a machine that doesn't have enough RAM for everything I'm trying to do.The most recent occurrence- a few moments ago- was when I simply had a browser window open and my system profiler- there is 8 gigs of RAM in here.
Recently my new unibody 17" macbook pro start to act a little weird. It started with regular "clicks" from the hard-drive. I thought the hard-drive is just parking to safe energy and didn't saw any harm in it. But now my computer start to slow down terrible in many occasions or crash. I noticed that when this happened (the crash or the slow down) I often hear the hard-drive clicking and/or bouncing. Is this the sign of a hard-drive that will die soon? or can there an other reason be the cause of this behavior?
I recently ran monolingual and installed Sophos antivirus. I think the problem started after Sophos free antivirus for Mac. But now the computer frequently displays the spinning wheel but Activity Monitor shows no CPU activity. While this happens I can not do much with the computer.
I have a 13" MacBook Pro mid 2010 with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X Lion and it is so slow, the boot take a couple of minutes, when using the laptop general experience is just really slow and crashes alot. Its always kept updated and is well looked after.

My brother's MacBook's hard drive just died. He has a backup of all of his data. If I were to buy this, what do I do after installing the hard drive? We have the Leopard disks and everything.
I am wanting to replace the hard drive in my macbook but I don't have the os disks that came with the computer (I've recently moved and they're beyond lost). I've read where apple can send me replacements (I assume I'd have to pay for them). Can I get the leopard upgrade and use that, or it just that, an upgrade and I need osx already on the computer. I don't care about backing up anything, as theres nothing on it of any importance, all my music and photos are on an external hard drive.
I just need help trying to take out this darn hard drive. It won't come out. There are two hard drives in my G5 right now, I'm trying to pull both of them out. I tried to do the bottom one first, didn't work. Tried the top one, didn't work. I'm stumped, and I tried my hardest to take them out. I am going to be replacing the hard drive on a macbook pro that went crackle and fgave me the spinnign wheel of death before it totally went dead on me but i dont have the discs to reinstall the OS (and to be honest I forget what version it is) on this laptop but have the discs for my imac. Can I use these discs or do I need something else? I got this from a former roommate who upgraded to a newer macbook and was going to toss this so there are no discs for this macbook. Totally at a loss here....not sure if the data is recoverable from the hard drive so need to know what my options are before I take it in for repair tomorrow....
I just replaced the hard drive in my macbook pro 2011 with an agility 4 ssd. I was able to copy all of the information over to the new drive. However ever time I wake the system up from sleep it freezes. I get the pinwheel. I am forced to restart the computer to get it working.
The hard drive on my iMac is filling to capacity at an extremely accelerated rate. In order to have functionality, I had to delete some unnecessary files and used WhatSize to try and determine the culprit. When backing up my hard drive yesterday, Mail was showing to be 91G. The hard drive filled up again a few minutes later so I copied iTunes to an external drive for safe keeping freeing up 85G.
By this morning that was gone as well so I copied contents of Pictures over to external hard drive freeing up 189G. Mail is now up to 244G on my 500G hard drive. I rebooted at that point to see if that would stop the growth and it has currently, but it may start again. WhatSize says there are no duplicates. I am receiving and sending the same amount of mail that I usually do on a daily basis, so that is not the problem.
I do a lot of traveling and have a lot of video files that I like to take on the road with me. I saw a 500gb Western Digital 2.5 hard drive on Amazon.com and want to replace my 160gb hard drive with it. I have an external hard drive with time machine. Is there anyway to do this so that I do no have to re-install everything?
The hard drive in my MacBook is turning 3 years old, and weird noises are being emitted from it, which means, the hard drive is on it's last legs. The stock Apple hard drive was an 80GB. Specs of the MacBook are in the sig. I was thinking to myself, why not take this as an opportunity to get a much larger hard drive for not that much money. I'm thinking of getting a refurb MBP but they come with a 5400rpm hard drive and I want a 7200rpm. Does anyone about how easy it is to replace the internal hard drive in a MBP and how much it would cost?
I have a problem which I couldn't solve for quite a while now. I bought a new WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB for my uMBP 13. I can't, however, figure out which screwdriver I need for those mounting screws that have to be removed in order to change the drives. I first bought a Torx 6 (Black & Decker TX 6) which is too big. I then ordered both a Torx 4 and Torx 5 from eBay. They are both too small... So what is wrong here? anyone had the same problem? Or any alternative solutions w/o using a Torx driver?
I recently thought it would be a smart idea to volunteer to replace the failing HDD on my friend's Macbook (white, late '07 model), since she could get a higher capacity than 120GB this way, as opposed to getting a replacement at the Genius Bar. I went on ifixit.com, since I was able to change a couple of components on my 1st generation Macbook Pro without much trouble, and followed the guide step by step. Now, I am no rookie with this stuff. I even used to work at an Apple store, but as a specialist, not a genius. However, when I did everything (and it would seem that the installation itself was done properly), the computer screen would remain off once I booted the computer.
I tried changing it back to its original drive to see if I could at least get it to boot, but the same thing happened. Nothing on the display. I tried starting up while pressing C to run from the Snow Leopard disc, I tried starting up while pressing Option, I tried everything I can think of. I am running out of options and I have no clue what to do. Is there something I should have done before putting in the drive? Does anyone know what could be done, aside from taking it to the store and paying the $200 for an HDD replacement? (my former co-workers at the GB seem to be MIA for this).
So I've come to the realization that I need a bigger HD in my MB. I'm a little confused on how to go about doing it though. If I use Super duper and put a backup of my existing HD onto an external HD. How do I restore it after the new HD and clean install of SL is done? Do I just download the super duper app again and use it to restore from the external HD?

I have removed the 2.5" Hard Drive from my better half's 2006 Macbook and looking at the Seagate I got to replace it the power pins don't appear to line up. Â
I can't see deep into where it seats. Do you have to replace the HDD with specific makes of 2.5" HDD?
I just recently got a Power Mac G5 (June 2004 model) from a family member, but I want to replace the hard drive with a new one. I understand I can use just about any SATA drive I'm looking to replace the old one with about 1TB of space, but how to I initialize it once I physically install it, and will I lose the basic programs, such as safari, iLife, iPhoto, etc? I know I'll lose the loaded data such as pics and music. I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to the macs.

hi there, I have iLife '06 that came on my macbook when i bought it mid 2007, but now, as you might have read in another post, I dropped my macbook and i might need to replace the hard drive. So if that is the option I have to take, how do I get iLife back once I have reinstalled the OS? Surely I don't have to purchase it?
I swapped my hard disk on the above mentioned machine and it won't boot. When I turn the machine on it tells me that there is no bootable disk. I have previously booted from the disk via usb, so i know there is a bootable partition on it. I swapped back the original drive and it boots up fine. Why wont the external drive boot when run internally?
I own a 1st generation MacBook Core Duo (black) with 80GB Fujitsu at 1.5 Gigabit/s. I want to replace this with a compatible hard drive. Will this - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive - work in my laptop? I notice that it has a 3.0Gb/s speed versus my current Fujitsu 1.5Gb/s. I'm using Tiger, if this matters.
After seeing the system requirements for Windows 7, I decided to upgrade to a larger hard drive later this week. I plan on giving my old 160 gig drive to a friend who uses Windows but I want to wipe it clean first. Do I insert my Leopard disc and use disk utility to reformat?
