OS X V10.7 Lion :: Apple Mouse Scroll Ball Not Working Since 10.7.4 Supplemental Update
Jun 20, 2012
I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but my scroll ball on my Apple Mouse (wired) will no longer scroll upwards since applying the OS 10.7.4 Supplemental Update on the 1st June 2012.
I have a Mac Mini with a 27" Thunderbolt Display running 10.7.4. There are no software updates available and I have tried all the settings available in the system preferences.
When I scroll down, I get no response. Everything else is fine. The clicking sound has also stopped when scrolling down, and I guess this is the reason why it's not working.
Information: Dual-core 2GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6) 1GB 533 DDR2 SDRAM
I am using this wired mighty mouse for the pass 6 months and recently it had a problem regarding on the track ball... the track ball is able to scroll up just like normal... but when scroll down, it is no longer as sensitive as scrolling up...
Stopped working a couple of days ago. It will scroll up and I can click in the side bar and move up or down but not when I use the little ball on top of the mouse.
I love the mouse (is it the mighty mouse?) which comes with the imac. The little scroll ball is brilliant especially for say scrolling down in itunes. But I always find that sometimes it won't work in a variety of different ways. i.e.
1) Sometimes it will let me scroll down but not up 2) sometimes up but not down 3) sometimes not up or down 4) occasionally it works both up and down.
As I type this I can go down but not down. I've had this problem on both our older IMac and now our new one. It can't be dust and muck and the ball does rotate. Why can't the ball just work all the time.
Does anyone know an easy way to pull apart the mighty mouse to repair the scroll ball? It won't scroll down (won't make the scratchy sound as if the sensor inside is clogged up or something).
I don't get this. We just purchased on wireless mighty mouse and one wired one came with our imac. We have had them for about 5 months (not long by my standards) and all of a sudden, within days of each other, the little ball scroller broke! One mouse is for my husband's computer and one is for mine, so they are being used differently, not for the same purpose or reason.. However, I'm sure we both use them a lot but doesn't every one? I will never purchase another one again. I dont care how much better they look than a basic mouse. I have never broke a mouse. I have one that came with my very first computer around 16 years ago and it still works!
my Mighty Mouse has broken after having it for about 4 weeks. Just now it just stopped scrolling down and can only scroll up. how to open these things to clean them or how to mend the scroll ball.
guy's i need your opinion, for the longest time I was using a wireless might mouse and was using the rubbing alcohol to clean it. I add a small drop from the cotton ball, let it get in there and then use a lint free cloth to wipe and sure enough it worked. Well trick stopped working months ago and neither direction was going threw, so I went back to using my plug in. Long story short, last night I opened the wiresless one. Took the ball out, clean the track wheels, and got up, right and left to work but down is no go. The wheel is spinning, but it's not sending the signal. I'm guessing the wheel isn't making contact to the pin, or is it possible I shorted the pin out with the alcohol?
The scroll ball on my mighty mouse scrolls forward sideways but not back anymore, just happened right now too. Has this happened to anyone before and how do I fix this
Is there a way of finding out weather my mac has the Mac OS X 10.7.3 Supplemental Update installed. I can't see it in the Installed Software section of Software Update.
Ok, so I went to the apple support webpage and did all the junk they told me to do, but my might mouse still won't scroll down. It scrolls left, right, and up just fine, but for some reason it won't scroll down. The ball moves fine when i'm trying to scroll down, but, again, nothing happens...anyone have any suggests??? and Yes, i've cleaned it and haven't done anything to it and I can't think of anything I could have done to cause this...
I'm using a microsoft intellimouse (USB to keyboard) on an iMac (late 2006), OSX 10.5.8
I recently connected my mighty mouse to the keyboard and changed some settings on the middle mouse button. Later I reconnected my microsoft mouse, and tried to change the settings back. Now, everything works as per usual, but my middle mouse click-drag scroll doesn't work
I can scroll by using the wheel up and down just fine, but if I try to click-drag, nothing happens. Is there any way I can fix this?
I now have a Magic mouse in use on imac using USB Bluetooth plug in dongle. It works well but after 4 days its already used 5% batterie! Negative point: one cannot scroll through for example the finder menu.
My wireless mighty mouse has just been dropped by a friend and came apart! Clipped it back together and the scroll and middle button do not work :-( it looks like there is a cable that connects them. Is there a special way to get it working again?
i think my mighty mouse (wireless) is starting to suffer the inevitable scroll ball problem, as i cant scroll down as well anymore..have any of you had any sucess getting a replacement or fixing it??
This is an issue most of you are probably familiar with. The 360 scroll ball on my mighty mouse has become so lodged with dirt (I'm assuming) making it impossible to scroll down. Scrolling left, right, and up works okay at best. When I scroll in the working directions, it makes a smooth tracking sound (tick-tick-tick-tick), when I scroll down, this sound is absent and is replaced by a "shhh" sound, which is the beginning of the word I'm thinking of when I hear it.
I've tried the "dry cloth" (when has that ever 100% worked) with no avail, then I resorted to using a sewing needle to get around the ball (which caught a very small amount of dirt). The down-scroll still doesn't work (I mean, it doesn't work AT ALL, it's not functional) and I don't know what to do. I'm sure the mouse can handle more than just regular-consumer workload.
Can anyone help me with this mighty mouse problem I'm having? Everything on the mouse is working perfectly EXCEPT when I try to scroll upwards the darn thing just won't do it. It scrolls down, left and right with no problem at all but when I want to go back up a page it does nothing. It's very odd and I have no idea what is wrong.
I recently developed a scrolling problem with my Mighty Mouse. It started to only vertical scroll in one direction. I reinstalled the software and it did not help. So, I called Apple tech support. While waiting on the line, I decided to press quite hard on the scroll button and try to scroll. That cured the problem, after that it only required the normal light touch to work properly. I do not know what was the cause of the problem, maybe dust(?), in any event it is working fine now.
Now i have OS LION, my mouse scrolls opposite to my old OS SL when i scroll up, screen pages go down... I can see why they did this, but I dont like it. How do i edit the mouse to scroll the old way, so down swipe means screen pages down, not some mirror image
I'd like to be able to hook a mouse up to Macbook Air and have it scroll properly, without breaking the scroll direction on its trackpad (or my magic pad). In other words, I want to disable "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling" for mice, and enable "Scroll direction: natural" for trackpads. These seem to be the same setting, though, as checking/unchecking one has the same effect on the other.
How can I do this, as I'd love to be able to easily switch to a mouse, without having to mentally reverse the direction of the scroll wheel.
I use a Logitech M570 with my late 2009 Mac Mini and like to have my scroll set to the way scrolling should work with a scroll wheel and how it has work for year before Apple decided it was wrong. Well after I updated to 10.7.4 my mac now wants to reset the scroll to the new way Lion does it after every shutdown or restart and its starting to get really annoying.
I recently plugged my Belkin USB mouse into my Black MacBook. All works OK, except that I cannot change the number of lines jumped when I use the scroll wheel.
The "Scrolling Speed" setting in System Preferences > Mouse doesn't do anything.
Any ideas? Is there a config file I can change via Terminal?
