Since installing Java 10.6.1_33, an online program I use will not function. The program says I do not have the correct Java update. Apple says to re-enable Java applets by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a webpage, but there is no region labeled "inactive plug-in". Everything worked perfectly before installing the latest update which was released yesterday.

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2Â and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for exampleÂ
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.Â
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.Â
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Â Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

The support doc for the recent Java update (Update 8, for Snow Leopard), entitled "About Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8," advises the following:Â If you do not use Java applets, it is recommended that you disable the Java web plug-in in your web browser. Â How does one know whether or not they use "Java applets"? urls....

Under Lion, there are lots of Java applets that I can't get to work.For instance, most of these just show solid white:[URL]I can tell that they're loading, because a few of them produce console output I can see in Java Console.Also, a few of them display some GUI elements.But mostly, they're blank.I've encountered lots of other applets, not Java3D, which also don't work.There's a lot of code rot going on due to Apple abandoning Java on the Mac and Oracle not picking it up.I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any tweaks I could make to the system to get these to work.I do, of course, have Java applets enabled in Java Preferences.

I think I need it to play Yahoo games. I went to Safari Preferences and checked Enable Java. (Enable JavaScript was already checked.) But when I click on a Yahoo game, the page loads, yet the game doesn’t appear. I thought I could just enable Java when I wanted to play, then disable it when I wasn't. Obviously this isn’t urgent, but if there’s an easy and safe way to play, I’d like to know.

Why doesn't Apple discuss what it is going to do with 10.5 (Leopard) other than to say "disable Java?" Why doesnt Apple support its product, i.e., computers running 10.5 still COVERED UNDER APPLE CARE? Why must we disable Java and wait (and pay) for a Leoparad to Snow Leopard upgrade disk to arrive by SnailMail Apple support your products especially when we own over $15,000 of your products. I have 4gb of ram in my MBP and am forcing snow leopard to boot into 64-bit mode by changing the one property in my com.apple.Boot.plist. I have noticed that if I keep my computer on for a couple of hours that over 2gb of my memory is declared inactive. The activity monitor does not show what is taking up so much memory on my computer. How would I be able to free up all this inactive memory so that my computer continues to run smoothly like it does when I do a restart.

I am having problem with post processing a simulation. Every time I hit the "plot parameter" button within the software I get the same error. Opening the file on a windows machine works perfectly fine, therefore I have tried updating the Java through "Software update" and still no luck. Â

I want to include a small pdf in a web page. This was possible using iframe under Safari 5.0.6/OSX 10.5.8. However under Safari 5.1.2/OSX 10.6.6, instead of the pdf opening in the iframe, it opens in a new window.

I am having issues with an "inactive plug-in" message in Safari when I want to do something using a Java plug-in. I searched the communities and sure enough, when I opened Java preferences the box next to "enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications" the box was unchecked so I checked it.  Unfortunately, when I go back into preferences, the box is once again unchecked. I did find out that I had a Trojan in the user.jar file associated with java but despite taking care of that issue (which for all I know is not related), this issue persists. All of my software is up to date and from what I gather uninstalling and reinstalling Java is not an option and should not need to be fone.

I am trying to create a workflow that will monitor a webpage and send me email if the page contains a certain keyword. I got it working, I get email; the email contains the keyword, or is an empty message when the keyword is missing.I would rather not get these empty messages is possible. Until I figure this out, I may send these message at some gmail address and create a fiter there to forward only message with that keyword. Not elegant but should work. Anyway, long term I want a more elegant solution. Here is what I have in Automator:
1) Get Specific ULRs
2) Get Text from Webpage
3) Filter Paragraphs (and here is where I check whether the keyword shows up or not)
4) New mail message (which contains they keyword from #3, or is empty)
5) Send outgoing messages.
As I said, the workflow always works, and will send a message with that keyword, or an empty message. How do I make the workflow send email ONLY if they keyword is detected? There is not IF in Automator as far as I can see. This is the first time I try to do something in Automator so maybe I am missing something.

enabling root user in Snow Leopard (10A421). I tried to find the directory utility in utitlites but couldn't find it. I read in other threads that Directory utility has been removed and all the functionality is moved to user accounts. But didn't find how to enable the root user.

I used the recorder function to do this as I was unsure how to do it any other way.

I am sure many of you heard that Snow Leopard was supposed to have native read/write for NTFS partitions. Apple supported NTFS R/W in older SL builds but I guess decided to not to go with it for some reason, however support is still present. For this, you need to modify your /etc/fstab file to mount NTFS partitions for read and write.
First, uninstall NTFS-3G/Paragon if installed.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".......................

Our work email recently migrated over to Google apps. I still I access it via Mail like I always have. There's an email that I get every week from a coworker with a .png attachment. All of a sudden, I can't see the attachment and it says "missing plug-in". When I log-in through Google Apps, it's there. Any idea what's going on?Â

I'm having a problem playing games on Pogo.com. When I click on a game it says I need to download Java. I click download, it says Apple has its own version and to update my software. Did that, doesn't work. I found this article. [URL]. I found the Java preferences folder, it looks exactly like this, except that I don't have the "Enable applet plug-in and webstart applications" box on mine. As above really! Its really frustrating. It bounces in the dock as though it is about to start. It then brings up a box that asks if I would like to report it to Apple, which naturally I do.Â
My friend suggested uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its no good!Â

I was wondering if there was a way to enable scroll button click scrolling in Safari 4 on Snow Leopard?
I'm sure there's a proper term for it, but what I mean is when you press down on the scroll wheel and a circle appears on screen with two arrows, when you move your mouse up or down it allows you to scroll through long documents quicker. I think Firefox and Internet Explorer have it.
I read that USB Overdrive might be of use, but it wont recognise my mouse (Logitech MX 620).

Safari crashes randomly, meaning that it sometimes is running in the beackground and I am not doing anything with it. It seems that this problem only exists since I have done the following changes: I updated the Adobe Flash Player and I downloaded and installed Minecraft for Mac (I did not play it, since I forgot it was not for free ^^).
