OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Disable Time Machine On MacBook Pro To Install It?

Jun 17, 2012

How do I disable Time Machine on my MacBook Pro to let me install Snow Leopard. From what I can see Time Machine is programmed to back-up on the hard disc and the install programme for Snow leopard is looking for another place to install - there is no other place. How do  install the new OS?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Clean Install With Time Machine?

Aug 30, 2009

am thinking about doing a clean install of Snow Leopard, but was wondering about the use of Time Machine in the Migration Assistant after it's re-installed. I have a lot of music, documents, apps etc (probably around 70-80gb) on my Time Machine backup that I would need to re-install. When you choose Time Machine in the migration assistant, does it let you choose what to pull off the Time Machine, or does it just take everything?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Clean Install Then Restore Files With Time Machine?

Aug 28, 2009

I ordered the $29 upgrade online. I was wondering if I could do a hard drive format and fresh install then restore my photos and documents and mp3s from my Time Capsule using Time Machine. This would probably free up even more HD space and make the OS cleaner and fresher, no? Would this be possible?

Intel Mac :: Damaged Install Disk For Snow Leopard, Restore From Time-machine?

Jun 19, 2012

I got SMART warning about my hard disk, I got it replaced by a shop, but said I would do OS restore myself. (cant afford cost )Thought it would be simple - but it is anything but.  It appears my install DVD is damaged, so was not able to boot with Grey OS install disk - holding the C key.I managed to get iMac to boot up using the old disk  - using firewire dock. However I was not able to restore old disk and OS to new disk, Due to IO read error.(this is why I had the SMART warning). So I am unable to get the OS on the new HD using the old disk or the DVD as these are both damaged.  The computer is running, so I thought I would try buying and downloading LION - then using the migration tool .  The download is still running after 2 days.I went to apple store, and was told that they cannot replace DVD , so I should bring in the iMac = and pay for the restore.  Dont wish to do this. As I have the computer and OS running, is there anything I can do to get a time machine restore from another backup disk (USB).

Applications :: Clean Install Of Snow Leopard - Time Machine & Carbon Copy Cloner?

Oct 19, 2010

I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my older macbook. I did not specifically back up my itunes purchases, however, I did do several Time Machine back ups as well as manually moving data via Finder (copy "Macintosh HD" and paste to folder on external), and finally a clone using CarbonCopyCloner. I wanted to start fresh, but I failed to think of my iTunes purchases, as well as iPhone app purchases/downloads. Is there some way I can specifically restore iTunes from the back up without having to restore from a TimeMachine backup?

MacBook :: Restoring Time Machine Backup From Snow Leopard

Aug 11, 2010

My Macbook has not been running very stable and I decided to restore from a backup via Time Machine. My problem is my install disks are Leopard (10.5) and my backups are from Snow Leopard (10.6). I installed Snow Leopard from an Upgrade disk which I don't still have.

I have no luck restoring the Snow Leopard backups. My question is, how would I recover these backups without the Snow Leopard install disk? Is it possible or do I need to do a fresh install, upgrade then enter time machine via the OS itself?

OS X :: Leopard Install Disc In And Restored To Time Machine Volume?

Sep 2, 2009

I use a lot of plug ins for music production in Logic. Like an idiot, i upgraded to snow leopard, after having this problem with the upgrade to leopard from tiger. Of course half of my plug ins dont work.So i Time Machine backed up everything on my HD. I put my old leopard install disc in and restored to my Time Machine volume. It took about 2 and a half hours.

At the end of that, it asks you to restart, and i do and as soon as the apple pops up on the off-white screen, kernel panic and i have to restart. this is never ending
Ive tried repairing and verifying disk permissions from the leopard disc of my HD and still nothing. My final guess would be to just do a clean install of Leopard and then restore from time machine again. This seems SUPER risky to me as there are TONS of important project session files that i CANT afford to lose.Everything is backed up on my Time Machine drive, im still just a little nervous about doing this.Anyone have any other ideas and does this sound like a secure plan?

OS X :: Unable To Install Snow Leopard / After Five Minutes Machine Re-starts

Jul 13, 2009

I've been trying to install various builds of snow leopard on my mac pro with no success (latest is 10a380). I start the installer, choose an install partition, click on 'install', the install window comes up, telling me the installation should take 'around 45 minutes'.

It copies a load of files to the hard drive, then about five minutes later the machine re-starts, and I am dumped back into my normal leopard installation. If I look at the discs I'm installing to I see a 'Mac OS X. install data' folder containing a lot of .pkgs, and that's as far as it ever progresses.

I've tried booting up directly from the install DVD, and this never works either: it always dumps me back into my normal leopard installation. All the disks I've been trying to install to are GUID formatted, permissions repaired, etc.Anyone got any ideas what can be going on?

OS X :: Time Machine And Snow Leopard Restore?

Jun 14, 2009

I am a little new to Time Machine, so I was wondering if anyone could answer this? I am currently using Time Machine to backup my Mac. I am running Leopard and I want to move to Snow Leopard when it comes out. When i get Snow Leopard, I will perform a reformat on my hard drive so its a nice fresh install. My question is what options will I get when I get when I go to install it as I have Time Machine? I'll be honest and say I'll be happy to just copy across my iTunes, iPhoto, contacts and calender over to Snow Leopard and not worry about anything else (stuff like downloading Firefox takes seconds and isn't a problem). Is this an option? Can i just install Snow Leopard totally fresh, then connect the Time Machine drive and copy the iTunes (etc etc) folders/files/docments over to my fresh install?

OS X :: Time Machine In Snow Leopard Slow

Sep 8, 2009

I just tried and everything seems non-responsive or on a 2 minute delay. I use Time Capsule and Time Machine and things are just not acceptable at this speed.

Also, I don't think the archives are right. I used to have a ton of things on my desktop - most of which I cleaned recently by moving or deleting the files.

However, going back a few months in Time Machine, the only files that show up in my desktop folder/view are the ones that are on my desktop today. All the older, moved or deleted files no longer show up in Time Machine.

OS X :: Cannot Backup To Time Machine With Snow Leopard

Feb 18, 2010

I have a Apple Time Capsule which is used as a Time Machine Backup Facility and also a Wireless Hub for File Sharing and Internet Connection. I've been using Leopard for a couple of years without any significant problems. The other day, I installed Snow Leopard and suddenly, I'm facing a number of different problems and errors regarding backups to the Time Machine with the Time Capsule.

First, I was facing problems with a Case Sensitive error and now that I have ejected the Time Capsule, the Disk Utility has come up with a different name altogether and now I have the added problem of disk space on the time capsule. I know I could re-format and start over but that would defeat the whole point of my backups. The Time Machine/Capsule should re-write over the old backups when making space for new ones but its just giving me an error about not enough disk space.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Error 11 With 10.6.8?

Apr 25, 2012

I finally upgraded to Snow Leopard. I have some older software and everything was working fine, so I delayed. I have an Intel 2 x 2.66 Dual Core. Now, I keep getting an error whenever I try to run Time Machine. So far, this is what I have done: Used disk Utility, Disk Warrior, then disk utility again (erased back up drive), then downloaded and reinstalled using the 10.6.8 combo update. Disk Utility again. Tried to backup and got the same error: The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.

After reading online I downloaded and installed backup buddy (I think) Anyway, this is the error that it gives: Starting standard backup?Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup/Backups.backupdb?Backup content size: 91.4 GB excluded items size: 65.6 MB for volume Knight/Freelance?No pre-backup thinning needed: 109.60 GB requested (including padding), 364.91 GB available

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Backup To Time Machine

Jun 4, 2012

I had to have the old hard drive replaced on my macbook pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 operating system. It was replaced at the apple store. I brought it home and yesterday restored it from the last time machine backup of my old hard drive which was Friday. That appears to be the only backup on the external hard drive I've been using with Time machine.

Today, it gets an error message. "Time Machine could not complete the backup. This backup is too large for the backup disk"...etc.

It is almost like it is trying to completely back up the new hard drive even though it was just restored from it. Is it because it thinks it is a different drive or something because it is a new hard drive? I don't want to delete the one good backup that I have but, I want to be able to use time machine to back anything up.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Time Machine Backup Stall

Oct 12, 2009

So finally I hooked up an external HD to my iMac 24 to use with Time Machine. My internal drive is partitioned into several sections and the system partition of about 80GB is supposed to be backed up to this eternal drive which is a 500GB, freshly formatted. Setup is easy enough. After Time Machine starts backing up it goes to about 100MB then it stalls. Essentially it keeps running, the turning clock symbol in the menubar is spinning but no data is moved.

At this point I can stop back up and then do click 'Back Up Now' in the menu at which time it will copy a few kb's and then halt displaying '2KB of 60.96GB'. I realize that there must be something on my HD it doesn't like to copy but unlike in my other backup app I don't know how to find that. The Console doesn't tell me much. I have done repeated Repair Permissions but it doesn't help.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Change Time Machine Interval?

Oct 10, 2010

Has anyone figured out how to change the time machine backup interval in SNOW LEOPARD?

i don't want a third party app or anything, i just want to go in terminal or textedit and set a new interval.

for any of you who are going to tell me to modify the com.apple.backupd-auto.plist file. i cant find one, and i believe this is unique to 10.6. there is a regular backupd.plist file, a -wake.plist, and -attach.plist, but none of them list the "start interval" key that i saw.
