I am having problems connecting my mac with the wifi ... this is the msg tht appears on my network - status On AirPort has the self-assigned IP address (***.***.*** )and will not be able to connect to the Internet.

Well the problem started when we got a new Time Capsule (2 TB) and replaced and AEBS. At the moment we have 4 macs using the TC. Three wireless and one connected with ethernet cable. If I close the lid on my Macbook Air and open it after a few minutes, it wont connect to the internet. I get a message saying: "Airport has the self-assigned IP address (and the IP #) and will not be able to connect to the internet" I try to use the network diagnostics, and it looks like the network settings is wrong (amber light) and the internet and server is failed.
I then select the network I want to use, and then it suddenly works again. Also three of the macs are using the TC for back ups. Usually the back up gets delayed, and wont start even if I ask it to back up now. It starts to the volume ready, then it says that the disk isn't available. Is there something I cant do or is the TC faulty? My mum and dad arent too good with macs, so if they cant connect to the internet they usually just reboot and it works. I have reset the TC and created the network again, but its still the same issue.

We actually change to fiber net. when fiber net was installed in our home that's the beginning of my wifi problem. The sad thing is only my Imac got the prob. the rest of the computers at home got signal. They said fiber network makes your surfing to internet even faster but its not what I expected. one imac and one mac book pro are functioning using wifi but slower than before .The only Imac which I am using is the only one that cant be used. any suggestions from u. I tried everything. unplugged, turn off routers, rebooth imac, rebooth routers. but it still the same the IP address is self assigned.

I've been having this issue for quite sometime. I have 2 networks at home, 1 I use for the hall, and the other is a homeplug i use for my room which has a direct connection to the wall socket.
Things I've tried:
1. Checked with my local telco whether it was my connection and they say it isn't. They say my router is working perfectly fine too. I can connect to the hall wifi without a problem, but once i switch over to the Aztech homeplug wifi it gives the me error "Wifi has a self assigned IP address and will not connect to the internet."
2. Tried plugging it directing into the Ethernet on my macbook pro, did not work.
3. Tried replacing the homeplug with a new one and it still does not work.
3. Deleted my networks and readded them from Keychain, does not work.
4. Deleted my firewall from the system prefs as mentioned in a forum earlier, didn't work.5. Renewed the DHCP address, still nothing.
6. Lastly, I've tried to create a new location for my network settings, but the aztech connection still does not work!
I'm using a Macbook Pro OSX Mavericks 10.9.4.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhere I work there is a "free, pubic" wireless network. I can access it with my PB G4, and it will show two or three bars of connection. But, I'm informed that my computer is not connected to the internet and when I check the Network control panel I'm it shows that my PB has a self assigned IP address. Meanwhile, someone with a Windows laptop sitting right next to me can connect without issue.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently erased my Macbook's HD because it was insufferably slow. I reinstalled OS X 10.6.1 and all is well! Computer's fast and everything works like it should. Except that my external hard drive (2TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk) is now read-only to me. It used to be readable and writable when plugged into any computer. Then something changed, and it only worked with my laptop (not anyone else's). When I reformatted and reinstalled OS X, I chose the same user name as I had before the reinstall, because I was semi-worried that this might happen. My computer troubles were so frustrating, however, that I just took the leap. Now here I am with 620GB of data that I cannot delete, and another 1.38TB of empty space I cannot use.

Does anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
So I got a new airport extreme today and so far, it's being a piece of junk. It took me two hours to actually get it to allow Windows to get onlinee from it. The only way that I could get it to allow Windows online was to run it in bridge mode. But now it keeps having my macbook and pro self assign IP addresses. So they can't get online while the Vista desktop can. Any other mode allows the network to be seen, but they don't allow the internet to go through.
Is there any easy (like it said on the box ) way to fix this self assigned IP crap while still allowing the internet to come to the computers? I've got it to stop having the individual systems self assigning, but then nothing can go online.
I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Unfortunately this disabled the remote management status icon in the menu bar? Any way to get it back? Before when I "screen shared" this computer the remote management status icon would appear in the menu bar, now it's gone. I tried enabling remote management but I can't authenticate when I try to connect from my Leopard PowerBook.

The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.

I have a MacPro with Snow Leopard. How do I remove "server addresses" where other computers are no longer in existence. When I go to "Go/Connect to Server" I have some addresses which are no longer valid. I can highlight them in the "Favorite Servers" list and hit "Remove" and they will disappear only to come back the next time I open the "Go/Connect to Server". For example, one of the server addresses is "smb://xps630i-PC/ddrive" and was used to link my MacPro to my PC.

Last night, I discovered that my address book had lost all of its contacts - the only one there was me. Is there a place that I can look for this file, in case this is just caused by a disconnect between the program and the file? What is the file called? Mountain Lion won't run on my Intel-graphics dual core white MacBook. Lion should run, but I've been disappointed with Lion and it is now end-of-life (mercifully short). So I've a perfectly fine and responsive Snow Leopard machine. Only problem -- when MobileMe dies in June Address Book on that device won't sync with our iPhone [1].
I know Apple doesn't allow 3rd parties to sync anything to iCloud. So there's no solution that way. One approach is to use a 3rd party app to sync Address Book on this machine with Address Book on another machine that in turn syncs with iCloud.
The easier approach is to go all Google; sync Address Book to Google, set the iPhone to use a Google Apps account. (Ironic that Apple's obsoleting a solid MacBook should drive us to Google.) [1] For various reasons the iPhone syncs to another machine with our family app/media library. So I can't sync Address Book via iTunes.

How do you address an email to a group with iCloud? I used to just type in the name of the group and all the addresses filled in. Since I've switched to iCloud it doesn't recognize the group name. If I select +, then the the group name I'm still asked to select individual recipients.

I finally updated my Mac from Leopard 10.5.8 to 10.6. I got all the latest updates (10.6.8) and am still transferring my apps but having trouble with Apple's Address Book and iCal. I did an export from both on my 10.5 OS then tried importing them into the respective apps under 10.6 When I try that iCal it says "nothing changed". Address Book just hangs. I still have my old 10.5 OS installation on another drive in my Mac Pro and can boot into it if necessary.
