OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Daily.out Log File Is Taking Up Over 26GB Of HDD?

Jun 25, 2012

I've only got 160MB left on my HD and my daily.out log is taking up a large part of it. This is what the log is telling me and I can't say how far back it goes because just the one day can take up a few pages of scripts! This is a sample of what the majority of the log seems to be: This was the 15th of June just passed.

Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::AddtoQueue: Enter, Size = 1518.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::AddtoQueue: Exit, Return: 1518.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::RemovefromQueue: Enter, MaciSize = 1020.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::RemovefromQueue: Exit, Return: 1020.

[code]....

I have no idea what any of this means, and if it wasn't for Google I wouldn't've found the folder in the first place. And this is only around 26GB of the whole 79GB the HD has available. My personal files take up under 20GB of data.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Daily Kernel Panics In It?

Mar 16, 2012

I'm running a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and am getting daily (sometimes multiple daily) kernel panics. It's been months since hardware changes (upgraded to 8Gb RAM, quality modules that work fine on other identical Macs). Today is the first day that it's happened more than once, but I hope that's not a sign of things to come... Here are Pastebin dumps of the Problem Report, System log, and Console log.

I haven't done any serious software updates in a while, but I did set up a Windows XP VM in Parallels Desktop, which has been running during most kernel panics. Maybe bad drivers that are incompatible or need updating? It sometimes runs for hours before a panic, so I don't think running in Safe Mode would be effective (unless I take it home overnight, which I may try). It seems that my problem is similar to another thread I found on this forum, but mine is a bit different, and I don't run any microsoft hardware (Logitech keyboard and mouse).

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Daily System Lockup?

Mar 26, 2012

3/26/12 1:44:13 PMkernelAppleBCM5701Ethernet:   0  a BCM5701Enet::replaceOrCopyPacket timedout This is the last line I get in any logfile before the system totally locks up. This happens at least once a day, with no particular pattern. This started happening about 3 weeks ago, and the only solution is to power cycle the machine.

There are no other items in the log files to indicate anything is wrong. This is the only common log entry, and always the very last before the system is power cycled. I have no idea what is causing the system to hang like this. Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Taking A Screenshot To Show The Mouse Cursor?

May 26, 2012

I often take screenshots to explain things on the FCP X forum etc.

In FCP X, like most video editing apps, the cursor can change its appearance dramatically according to what tool you are currently using. Unfortunately taking a screenshot does not display the cursor or its appearance at that moment.

I have a workaround involving making a video of the screen and cursor using Screenflow but this is ridiculously complicated. Is there a simple way of recording the cursor's icon on a screenshot?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Running Slow - Restart Taking Over 10 Minutes

May 15, 2012

A few days ago, I found my macbook running slow. The starting time used to be 2+ min but slow down to 10+ min. I tried to reinstal by installation DVD but the time bar showed 5+ hours required. I restarted the macbook and tried to format the HD, after proper steps taken, the time bar showed 17 days. Instead booting from the system, I tried to boot direct from my installation DVD.

After formatted the HD and re-instal the system, the MacBook seems running smooth again. But after installation of other programs, the same problem recurred. The system was getting slow. Re-starting it required waiting over 10 minutes. I tried to re-format the HD and installed the system again but still doesn't work. Under the disk utility "first aid" scanning through the HD, it showed "Invalid key length." and "The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely."

Mac Pro :: Motion Rendering On 8 Core 26gb Of Ram?

Feb 15, 2012

I have a project that is 1280 x 720p I am doing continuous work with hours of footage. Initally i was compositing on my macbookpro i5 8gb of ram and it took 7 hours to render a 1 hr timeline.  to remedy the situation, i bought a 8 core 2x 2.4 quad core macpro installed 26 gb of ram and am currently using the 5770 radeon gpu.  it say it will take 2 hrs to render which is awesome but........ it always hangs. i check my activity monitor and it uses about 19gb of ram, but when i check the file (rendering to prores 4444 without alpha 1280 x 720p) it only goes up to 3gb and the render status says 35% complete but the timing doesnt change , it doesnt count down or up or nothing.  i checked my ram and its all installed correctly so i have no idea what is goin on.  when i had my original 6 gb of ram on the 8 core was rendering the same footage it would take 4 hours.

OS X :: How To Get Snow Leopard Host File

Sep 13, 2009

So I've been having a lot of internet issues since clean installing leopard. My neighbor, who works for Verizon, came over to take a look and thought I was having some DNS issues. He edited the "host" file and now my internet connection seems even worse. I found instructions online on how to edit the host file, but could someone post what the host file is actually supposed to look like in Snow Leopard since I don't know what he changed? I still have a completely clean install of SL, no 3rd party apps yet.

OS X :: Snow Leopard And File Sharing Between Mac

Dec 12, 2009

I have a small home network. Three macs all running the latest version of Snow Leopard (as of right now 10.6.2). I have my Mini acting as a file server. We do remote backups via SuperDuper to an attached HDD on the mini. So it just runs and does nothing. On the mini I have the admin account and then two "sharing" accounts. Lets call the sharing accounts 'user1' and 'user2'. I have shared one folder with 'user1' and a different folder with 'user2'. That way each user has their very own folder to put whatever file they want in there without the other user accidentally deleting or messing around with their files.

Both user account computers can connect to the Mini with no problem. The problem is that both user accounts can see and write to each other's folders. I have the permissions via "File Sharing" in System Preferences --> Sharing --> File Sharing set so that only the user and admin have read/write privileges and Everyone has no access. I know something is wrong because I have this exact setup at work and users can only see their shared folder.

OS X :: File Permissions In Snow Leopard

Mar 25, 2010

After getting a replacement IMac and restoring all my files, applications, etc., from a Time Machine backup, I went to run a game I have which attempted to install a patch, but the patch would not apply, why, file permissions I'm sure. It looks like when Time Machine restored my computer it also restored my previous user account. I had to login as the restored user account to apply the patch. Now this brings up some questions.

My new user account is an admin, why wouldn't it be able to apply the patch. I logged into my old account to give my new account read/write permission on the game folder, but still couldn't apply the patch? Do I have to be the owner? Any good links about file permissions in Snow Leopard. I'm thinking I may have to re-install these apps to fix the permissions.

OS X :: Snow Leopard And Win7 File Sharing?

Sep 19, 2009

Network file sharing has always been buggy in my windows/mac mixed environment, but I managed to live with it. It worked for 85% of the time. However, since upgrading to SL, it now works less than 5%. It keeps telling me "there was an error connecting to the server. please check ip addr, etc.......". It'd work for a few minutes after each restart and then resume its habit of annoying the hell out of me. Is this a common problem with Sl and Win 7? (BTW, win7 to win7 or win7 to vista file sharing works perfectly).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Reordering File Names?

Jun 14, 2012

When reordering the file names adding a 'space' before the name forces that name to the top of the alpha sorted list (can add more spaces to 'nest' too). In the (good?) old days of OS7 adding opt+8 at the start of the name added a bullet and forced the file to the bottom of said list.  Doesn't work now (sob!) - also forces file to top.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Edit Php.ini File

Jun 17, 2012

I am installing osTicket on my Mac Mini Server running 10.6.8.

I need to enable short_open_tag. I believe I need to make a change to the php.ini file.

I have tried to open it through terminal through the following comands: cd /etcsudo nano php.ini

got the error message Error opening terminal: xterm-256color.

so then I tried cd /etcsudo pico php.ini and got the same error message.

My Question is, to enable short_open_tag, do I need to edit the php.ini file or not. If I do, how? If not, how to I enable short_open_tag?
