OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Edit Users In Workgroup Manager, New Users Cannot Login

Feb 13, 2012

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8).

When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.

As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).

Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Dscl: Generating A List Of All Users And Their GUID's?

I am having to manually re-add all the .ics files to each users shared calendar through iCal. I want to generate a list of users and their GUID's and I think dscl is the right tool. I don't have great bash skills nor can I get dscl to jump through hoops. I can get individual GUID's for a user using # dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -read /Search/Users/username but waht I would like to do is generate a list of all the users and their GUIDS ?how I can do that?

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Are New Directory Users Unable To Login To IChat/jabberd

May 3, 2012

I have a couple of new users I've added to our directory recently. They are unable to connect to our internal jabber (iChat) server. Users that have connected previously are experiencing no difficulty. A quick overview of the layout of the system: two XServes, one is OD primary (aspen) the other is OD replica and iChat server (vail). I've modded some config files (long ago) to allow user IDs for jabber to be user@ourcompany.office instead of user@vail.ourcompany.office. It works quite nicely.

Excerpt from the logs shows a failed login attempt followed by a successful login attempt. Successful logins are happening from Messages (beta), iChat under Snow Leopard, and Pidgin under windows. Failing logins are all from iChat under Snow Leopard. Please ask questions, I'm happy to add any other pertinent data! May  3 16:21:45 vail jabberd/c2s[99718]: [13] [::ffff:10.255.170.122, port=52584] connectMay  3 16:21:47 vail jabberd/c2s[99718]: [13] [::ffff:10.255.170.122, port=52584] disconnect jid=unbound,

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Unchangeable Disk Space?

Feb 10, 2012

I bought Snow Leopard recently and attempted to install it yesterday. Mid-way through installation it cancelled due to "Unchangeable Disk Space."  It gave me the option to restart and re-install, which I attempted, to the same error.  I tried once more to no avail.  At this point I attempted to restart using the old operating system (Leopard).  When I did so the computer restarted.  It stayed on the initial grey boot up screen (with the mac logo and the spinning circle thing underneath) for about 3 minutes before shutting down.  This occurs every time I boot the computer back up.I am using a Macbook purchased November 2008 which was running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Available Disk Space Not Correct

Feb 11, 2012

I'm using a MacBook Pro (March 2011) running 10.6.8.

I just deleted (technically backed up to an external raid and then deleted from the system disk) about 8gb worth of files.

However, in Finder and in Disk Utility, it shows 1.96GB available.  That number is up a little and for awhile at least, was growing.

I'm also experiencing this same problem on an external USB drive.  I deleted about 3 gb worth of files, but the available disk space hasn't increased.

I'm coming from the PC world, where, if you delete a bunch of stuff, the free disk space magically increases to show the correct amount.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Disk Utility Not Reporting Space Correctly?

Feb 27, 2012

I often add very large files to my system before compressing them, sending them to clients, and then deleting them. This process leaves me constantly thinking about how much disk space I have free. Disk Utility, and an Apple approved app called DaisyDisk (space visualization) typically help me accompish this. Sadly, as of this week I seem to have a problem. When I went and looked the other day Disk U was telling me that 250gb of my 320gb drive is in use. This seemed high to me, but to be safe I thought I'd delete some files I didn't need. After deleting a bunch of videos, and a backup of my Main Identity (19gb) from my system, I'd assumed I had freed up about 24gb, but when I went back into Disk U it was still showing the same 250gb in use. Yes I rebooted my system, and made sure the trash was empty.

As I investigated further I did a get info on all 6 folders on the MacHD and they added up to about 170gb. That seemed more realistic, so I did a get info on my MacHD and again it showed the same thing 170 in use and 148.something available. Note: I have no partitions on this drive. But yet, still when I go to Disk U it seemed to be stuck at only 64gb free. Today when I went and looked again I am still seeing the same amount in use and free on the MacHD get info, but on Disk U now I am seeing 108 free and 211 in use. Why the difference? I would think Get Info was pulling from the same place as the mac disk utility.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Start Mac Because Took Too Much Space And Now The Disk Doesn't Mount

Mar 27, 2012

I am most certain that this is the case: foolishly, I didnt leave much free space and now the disk doesnt want to mount. I tried the single user mode, I also booted from DVD, they appear but the disk utility shows the disk but I cannot repair the disk, because it is unmounted. I tried the basic commands in single user mode, no effect either. I still cant get over the blue screen with the apple logo and a circle running. I need to free up some spasce. Unforetunately, important  files were not backedup, so I really cant delete the whole disk. I need to delete specific files.  I dont know where are my big files located - so, how do I orientate myself among the folders? Lets say I would delete my itunes libary, which I would later on renew thanks to the back/up, how would I delete them?

Applications :: No Disk Space After Failed Disk Utility Erase Free Space?

Dec 15, 2010

I'm having a pretty serious problem. I attempted to erase the free space on my HD, as I do from time to time, except this time it appeared to hang/freeze at the end, when it gets to the part where it creates a temporary file. I waited for several minutes and it didn't move. I tried clicking the skip button, but that did nothing either, so I force quit Disk Utility.

The problem is, it left the disk at "Zero KB" of free space, effectively making my computer inoperable. I was in the process of studying for a huge exam tomorrow, and am currently flipping out.

If it matters, I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.

I really don't want to have to reinstall the OS and import the old files, but my real fear is that I will have to do a fresh install of the OS.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Daily.out Log File Is Taking Up Over 26GB Of HDD?

Jun 25, 2012

I've only got 160MB left on my HD and my daily.out log is taking up a large part of it. This is what the log is telling me and I can't say how far back it goes because just the one day can take up a few pages of scripts! This is a sample of what the majority of the log seems to be: This was the 15th of June just passed.

Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::AddtoQueue: Enter, Size = 1518.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::AddtoQueue: Exit, Return: 1518.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::RemovefromQueue: Enter, MaciSize = 1020.
Fri Jun 15 10:17:22 pa122-110-23-211 kernel[0] <Debug>: ::RemovefromQueue: Exit, Return: 1020.

[code]....

I have no idea what any of this means, and if it wasn't for Google I wouldn't've found the folder in the first place. And this is only around 26GB of the whole 79GB the HD has available. My personal files take up under 20GB of data.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: ICal Server: Free/Busy And/or Availability Not Working?

Jun 14, 2012

I run 10.6.8 server in a VM with Parallels Server for Mac. Lithium pinged me early Monday morning to tell me that my calendar server wasn't reachable. I found it had kernel panicked. After resetting it and verifying the directory structure and permissions, it booted fine. But availability or free/busy wasn't working for all users! The events were all there. Invites could be sent and received but when a user checks for availability when creating events. they see the daily work hours grayed out but not anything corresponding to a scheduling conflict.

Things I have Tried:

- bounced ical server

- Rebooted the server

- checked the owners and permissions for the data store hierarchy. (_calendar:_calendar 750)

- checked for xattrs on .ics files in several calendars

- deleted .db.sqlite for several users in several dir in their calendar stores

- in the past I have found that some iTIP invitations seem to get "stuck' causing problems with an individual users free/busy and deleting the inbox resolves this so I deleted several inboxes

-I moved a copy of the data store to a test server and pointed several clients at it.

The issue persisted in all of these cases without any change in behavior with one exception; somewhere (i lost track of where) during this process users also lost their delegation preferences. I'd love to find out how and where that is stored so that it can be restored in the future. It seems pretty fragile...

I found one way to restore the functionality; copying a users __uid__/<GUID>/calendar out. . Moving all the folders under <GUID> out of the way and dropping the .ics files into ical with their account configured in that instance. Although this worked for selected users, I have many, many users and calendars so this solution would be suboptimal.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Replacing A Hard Drive Of RAID 5 System Just Ruined OS X 10.6.8 Server?

Jul 2, 2012

My system is MacPro 2009 with 10.6.8 server and Apple RAID card. Last week, RAID util just notified me of one drive is not viable, so i decided to replace the drive today. The configuration of my system is... There is an Apple Raid Card for HW Raid system Bay 1 = 640 TB drive with Mac OS X 10.6.8 server installed Bay 2, 3, 4 = 1.5 TB drives set up as RAID 5 below is what I did to replace the degraded Bay 4...

1. I shut down the system

2. replaced the corrupted drive with the new hard drive

3. tried start the machine again.Now my machine refuses to start up with the blinking question mark... I guess that the system fails to recognize the new drive or cannot find the system files...

4. So I put back the degraded drive...

5. The machine still won't start...

6. I tried to use the 10.6 server installation disk to boot up the machine to check if I can fix the system via disk util; but, everytime I do this, I got kernel panic...

7. resetting PR Ram didn't help, cannot boot up via safe mode as well (since the system file is not accessible now, I guess...).

8. booting via 10.6.2 server installation DVD still gives me kernel panic...

Why would my system corrupt by just replacing one degrade drive? The Mac OS X is not even the part of the Raid system... How am I supposed to fix this issue with out the installation disk?
