OS X V10.4 :: Upgrading MacBook Pro From Current 10.4.11 To 10.5 Or Newer?
Jun 11, 2012
I have a disk which I purchased a while ago which says it is Mac OS X 10.6 Retail and I am wondering if this is an upgrade or a whole new install? Am I going to lose information on my computer
My computer specs
MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
I have an iMac white intel-based dual core2 which has been sitting untouched since purchased Sept 2006. Trying to upgrade everything.
When I try to upgrade to Lion it says I need Snow Leopard first so, using Safari, I try to buy Snow Leopard and Safari crashes. Safari is 3.0.4. So I try to upgrade Safari but it says I need Snow Leopard first.
Figured it would be a little lighter to have a thread that shows that Apple's computer CAN and DO work occasionally....Here's my uptime on my i7! It wants me to reboot for Safari update, but I refuse. As of 8:42am PST, March 16, 2010:I guess currently I have the longest uptime of anyone in this thread!
I have the the older black macbook. I am currently running Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and I was wondering if it would be poosible to update to the newest OS X.
I have a first generation 13.3" black macbook and was wondering if this....http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...ustomerReviews
Would work in my macbook. I am looking to get a newer better hard drive and have heard Western Digital are excellent, so if this one won't work could someone suggest a better choice?
I'm operating on a MacBook Air that i recently updated to OS X 10.9.2. Along with the update, Java 7 was installed. I need to have Java 6 Update 20 installed to use some programs on this computer for work. I've gotten the files to install that update, but when I attempt to do so I receive a message stating that I cannot install on my disk. A newer version is already installed.
I've gone into finder > Go to Folder and deleted the Java folder after uninstalling java in the first place. This has not fixed my issue.
I've heard that there have been some differences between the older and newer Macbook screens - I'm thinking about buying a reburb unibody macbook and want to know how significant the difference is. If it's big enough I'll use my student discount to get a new mac with an iPod and then sell the iPod for the price difference, but that is a lot more work and initial money spent vs just getting a refurb. Does anyone have any experience with both?
I have a 23" cinema display from November of 2006. Is this compatible with my newer MacBook Pro, which is from June 2009. It's not the most recent MBP - I bought it just before they refreshed the line a week or two later. If the display will work, which adapter do I need? Micro DVI? Mini DisplayPort?
I went to the apple store bought the adapter and the hdtv cable should have got a longer one I feel stupid but it works.. Was wondering what is the best resolution it looks kind of weird on my tv I figured out how to do mirror mode and single mode I have it connected to my 46 hdtv lg 720p.

I have an early 2005 Mac mini, 1.42 Ghz G4 with Tiger, and I just got a used mid 2007 Mac mini with Tiger and an Intel Core 2 duo processor (dual 2.0 Ghz). Can I set up the newer one in target disk mode connected via firewire to the old one or is there a better way to do this? (hub, KVM, etc) If firewire, is there a certain type of firewire cable for this?
All I can find is an old article that details how to get the 2ghz quad core processors into a Mac Pro. Any reports on using the newer processors in the 1st gen Mac Pro 2.66?
I have a first generation mac pro (Rev B I believe), and am currently having some issues with it.
If I decide to purchase a newer generation mac pro, would it be possible to jsut pull my current hard drive, put it in the new one, and have it work? I'm a photographer and work with Photoshop CS3, a 2001 version of Word:Mac and Excel:Mac, Photo Mechanic 4.51 and Transmit and Toast Titanium as the main programs I use. I can not presently find any of these install disks, so I'd like to try avoiding re-installing the software if I can avoid it.
The economy being what it is, I am trying to save money where I can...but I need my workstation to work. Right now I am already looking at replacing the Vid Card in my 1st gen mac pro, and hate thinking that purchasing another $350 ATI X1900 card from Apple is my best option. If a newer generation mac pro is better for me in the long run, it might be $2k well spent.
I have made a mess of everything to the point where I probably should start fresh and reload everything. Is there some way I could reset to original factory settings?
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.0.x)
I only update my web site a few times a year, and since the last time I bought a new computer and have a newer version of iweb. When I try to update my web site (on mobileme), it builds all of the pages and then gives an unknown error and fails. I also can't use the file menu/visit site, which indicates to me that it doesn't recognize my domain as the same site.
Hoping to keep Mini awhile longer but not happy with the speed. Would a new HD increase speed?? Currently mini = Processor 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 1GB. What is the max HD I could but in it??
A friend of mine scored a quad 2.66 with a 20" ACD for $900! what a deal. He has 4 monitors he wants to connect. I have an old 64mb video card from a G5 I want to give him if it will work. Will it work in the mac pro?
I currently have the older iMac as in my sig. I'm buying a new iMac i7. Can I still use the Belkin Hub I currently have?I know my current iMac has a USB that is slower than newer ones, don't remember the specifics. I'm not sure if the Belkin Hub I have is compatible for the newer USB 2.0
I have MacBook Pro about 17 months old (bought new Summer 2008). According to Coconut Battery, my current battery capacity is 96% after 185 cycles (see below). This was taken just after I re-calibrated the battery last night. I usually work the laptop from the battery ... I rarely leave the laptop plugged in unless charging, and when fully charged I always unplug and run the battery down before plugging in again. So, is 96% battery capacity good or bad for a 17 month old MacBook with 185 charge cycles? Is the way I'm charging ok, or is it better to have the MacBook plugged in continuously and have less charge cycles (would this give me a better battery health %)?
I currently own a macbook pro (see below specifications). I would like to know if I could change my current hard drive (Hitachi HTS545050B9SA02 500GB @5400) to an SSD. Here are some concerns
1. Can i copy my exact hard drive with all the programs over without having to reinstall anything
2. What is the best 500gb SSd Harddrive for this laptop?

Assuming that the next Macbook Pro revision includes a Sandy Bridge i5, will the Sandy Bridge i5 be more powerful than the current 2.66 i7 included in the 15" Model?
I have been waiting for arendale (or however you spell it) and I just can't seem to make myself wait any longer so my question is should I get the current 15" 3.06Ghz or wait..And another question what would be the difference in the 3.06 and the 2.8Ghz?Just really tired of waiting but I don't want my new mbp to be "old" in a week or so when the new ones come out I dunno.. maybe I'm chasing Technology here but I would really like an i5 or i7 chip
If the 13" isn't updated I may get the current version...but was after some advice about the graphics card/processor (I realise I'm probably using the wrong term).
I'd read that users have to log off to switch the graphics option when using the mbp for heavier work.
Can anyone provide an idiot's guide on what this actually means? How often it has to be done, for what tasks (video editing etc) and how long the switch physically takes?
I was an owner of a white macbook for just over a year until the motherboard decided to give up the ghost... So I eventually bought myself a new 13" Macbook Pro. Everything was going just beautifully, until I realised when I was charging it, I had this weird electrical current going through all the aluminum.First of all the first two things that came to mind was. What's the computer and most importantly MY health going to be like if its exposed to all this! Anyway. I read a few threads, and they were talking about the "Grounding" problem. Luckily I got my old macbook charger out and plugged it in.. The problem went! So I was then thinking on where in the charger lied the problem? So I took the cable part from the Megasafe to the socket from my macbook, and then put it into my macbook pro Megasafe... and everything worked brilliantly! I'm no genius, however if you guys feel that tingly electrical/static current going through you're MBP, go and buy yourself a new cable. However as Apple is so popular, I'm sure if you try one of you're friends (As they will undoubtably have one) and see if it is that the problem. In anycase, I'm very happy with my Macbook Pro Apple make some awesome products. Bill Gates should just pack up and go fishing if you ask me. He can never compete with Me old mate Steve
