OS X :: Put Back Function In SL Moves A Trashed File Back To Its Place?
Sep 2, 2009
i just deleted a file and wanted to use the new glorious "put back" function in SL that moves a trashed file back to it's place. However neither by right-clicking on the file in the trash nor in the file menu there is a "put back" option.Where is it?Edit: Ok i find this very strange. On this particular file there was no "put back" but when i do on another folder/ file there is. WTF?
I'm an idiot, pleased to meet you.I had 2 external drives connected to my Macbook Pro, both had time machine back ups on...I meant to delete one of these but deleted the wrong one, and dragged it into Trash. On realising my mistake I tried to drag it back out of Trash, as you would normally but after "preparing to copy" for four hours it told me the drive was full...It's a 500gb drive, and the Time Machine back up is the only thing on it, so presumably it's just trying to copy itself when the back up is still present on the drive, albeit in the Trash.
I have got myself in a very sorry state. I have a G5 powermac with two harddrives, one that the system runs on and the other that i have called STUFF and ....well has all my stuff on it. While on the phone talking i managed somehow( dont ask) to drag the STUFF hard drive into the Trash and it disappeared in a puff of smoke, and well... i need it back.
I cant find the HD within finder, but managed to find it while looking in disc utility but have not been able to drag it to desktop or anything like that.Anyway, if you have any ideas as to how i can go back in time and get my HD i would be seriously grateful.
I was trying to delete one album from itunes, so i quickly ctrl A, delete, move files to trash, enter, then all of a sudden I realize my entire library was highlighted and deleting to my trash can! so now I have a trash can full of music and I can't figure out how to get it all back to itunes music folder or even out of the can! ahh plz help!I guess I can drag Items from the trash to my desktop, but I need to bring back like 9000 things from the trash which all deleted individually so dragging them all to my desktop doesnt sound like a good idea. EEP.
I just installed Safari 3.2.1 and find that I have no operable Back- Forward browse feature.
The buttons are there but always grayed out as if no previous page existed. Too, when I right click on a web page I no longer get "back" as a default. It comes up "reload" no matter where on the page I click. Finally, when I view History the only link displayed is the page that I am on. To get to a previous page I must select "Earlier Today". I DO NOT have Private Viewing selected.
What gives? This is a primary feature. lacking it makes it very difficult to use the browser.
I turned off the bluetooth function and my keyboard and mouse wont now work and I cant get back into the system - how do I reactivate without the use of the keyboard ?
i have my power saver set up so that the display goes to sleep after 30 minutes do i get it to wake back up without pressing the power button in the back?
i finally got my High Res Glossy MBP after 4 weeks of waiting...Everything works fine...and NO yellow tint issue...The only problem is 1 small dead pixel towards the bottom right of the screen...Will apple do an exchange on CTO machines with only 1 dead pixel? Is it even worth doing the exchange? After reading these forums i see that a lot of other users have been complaining about all types of problems...Yellow tint, wifi problems, over heating...etcshould I consider myself lucky? And just be happy that its only 1 small pixel?
There are a gazillion Time Capsule threads and my question is probably answered in one of them. But I've been skimming them and can't find it. Also couldn't find it in the Apple support docs. So...Does anybody know how far back TC backups go? Does it just hold on to the latest backup or can you go back awhile to recover your files? For example, if a file was corrupted six months ago, will I be able to retrieve the prior uncorrupted version of it - or just the latest TC backup version of it (which would of course also be corrupted)?
My MacBook hard drive has about 70GB of data on it but the corresponding TimeMachine-generated Backups.backupdb folder on my firewire-connected hard drive only shows up as 1.15GB. Has my computer backed up properly or am I having serious problems?
My HD recently failed, sent my macbook back to apple and they replaced the HD and recovered the data. However, the data is sitting in one large file on my desktop and the rest of the computer is reset. It means that when I open applications e.g. iTunes, Mail etc none of my previous data is there. Is there any way I can put everything back how it was?Â
I am working on my website and apparently I don't know how to open a zip file. I was unable to upload a zip file in Joomla's back end manager. This was my first time dealing with a zip file.
I have a bunch of mp3 files that I would like to rename the original file name. Itunes only allows me to change metadata, but to fix broken names and keep organized, I need to change the file name. Once I rename the file, it shows the new name, and then upon playing it, it reverts back to the original name. I do not have any locked permissions. I have parallels and tried to rename them on the windows 7 side but same effect. I tried to shut all programs off so the file was not in use. I even tried to export it as a acc file type. I am exhausted looking for a solution, this is why I am using this forum as a last ditch effort.
Copied files to an external hard drive and then deleted them from mac HD and empty the trash. I then went into disk utility and made a second petition for external hard drive and it deleted all the files on the external hard drive. Is there a way to recover the files that were on the extra the hard drive or from the Mac hard drive?
I have deleted a file from my documents folder and even when I empty the recycle bin this file after a restart comes back. The recycle bin doesnt refuses to empty. It empties normaly.

Can I use Time Machine to back up a file share? I'm thinking of attaching 2 external drives to a mac mini server, the first HD to host an network file share, the second would be a RAID for Time Machine backups of the file share HD.
Does Lion Server come with the Time Machine client software?
My iTunes music files were stored on an external hard drive. But, unfortunately, the iTunes library file must have been on the laptop hard drive. Now, when I open iTunes music library and playlists are empty, despite my having 120GB of music on the connected hard drive.
Short of dragging and dropping all the music files into the iTunes window, is there any other way of "telling" iTunes where to find my music? I have tried "organize library" and nothing happens.
My Macbook Pro has been not updating, crashing applications, and force restarting. The problem has finally showed itself this morning. Finder crashed and when I tried to open it, I got a " Cannot open because file or application does not have a back up on time machine, and it is corrupted or incomplete (null)
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2)
I am trying to retrieve all my music because they dont appear in itunes anymore. I accidentally deleted all files from trash and now most files appear on my desktop.
i just bought the game Spore and i am having troubles with it. 1st after i download the cd an update pops up for the game back to back to back to etc. and its the same update. Then when i run the game everything works fine (the begining cut scenes) but when the game is about to start it cuts off and an error popup comes up.
Time machine failed in progress as my hard drive failed. I have an "in progress" file on my external harddrive that is about 160 GB. I would like to try and load this back onto a new harddrive. Migration assistant is not responsive nor does Time Machine recognize the external drive when connected.
New to Safari. I originally moved the download file off of Dock, but now would like to put back. I found it in Finder and was able to place it on the desktop, but am unable to put it on the Dock.
I have multiple Podcast Libraries. Which Podcast file is in the correct place? I can combine the other Podcasts after knowing the correct path. "iTunes New" is my external hard drive housing iTunes.Â
So is it:
iTunes New > Podcasts iTunes New > iTunes > Podcasts iTunes New > iTunes > iTunes Music > Podcasts
