OS X :: Mac Box Set - Snow Leopard & ILife 11

Oct 23, 2010

I'm on Tiger 10.4.11 w/ iLife 06 (on C2D iMac). Everything works great! I'd probably stick with Tiger as it's been very good and stable. However I'd like to get an iPad but see that syncing the iPad with a Mac/OSX requires 10.5 or newer. I figure if I'm going to upgrade I might as well get current with 10.6. Seems people have had mixed results with getting the $30 upgrade disk and going direct from Tiger to SL. I don't mind getting the "Box Set" from Apple. $130 isn't the end of the world. Couple question maybe someone could help with regarding the Box Set: Can I do an in place upgrade of OS and iLife with the Box Set? If in place upgrade fails or performance isn't quite what I expected can I then do a clean install? A friend said his SL performance was much better after he did a format and clean install as compared to when he did the upgrade (from Leopard) on his MacBook Pro.) I will backup my info. Is there anything to worry about with exporting or backing up iLife apps (iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand), Email, Address Book, etc in Tiger then restoring in SL and iLife 11?

OS X :: ILife 09 Updates For Snow Leopard?

Aug 15, 2009

Does anyone expect to see updates come to iLife 09 to extend support for OpenCL and Grand Central shortly after Snow Leopard is released? Or do you imagine this will be held off until iLife 10? iLife features some of the most resource intensive apps (iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto) used by most users so I believe that Apple could really showcase the improvements brought to Snow Leopard from both OpenCL and Grand Central by doing this asap. Here's to hoping we don't have to wait long for this functionality.

Also, could you please recommend an idiot-proof, step-by-step guide to formatting the HD and installing Snow Leopard from scratch with the upgrade disk?

Applications :: Upgrading To Snow Leopard For ILife 11

Nov 10, 2010

I have Leopard, the late edition of 09, or was it '08, in October? Anyhow, I am going tomorrow to upgrade to Snow Leopard mainly so that I can have iLife 11, but it is not compatible with Leopard. My question is this when I am installing the new stuff, do I need to go thru and delete anything at all??? Or do my things transfer over automatically? Also, will this new software, or is it hardware? will it take up more space on my Macbook or does it override Leopard, kind of take it's place and not take up more space on my computer? Yeah, I know, once again, lay(wo)man's terms and I know that I should know this stuff but I don't. I also do not have any external device backing up my stuff, which I know is a HUGE and COLOSSAL mistake. Is there an easy way to back stuff up, online or something? What about an inexpensive way? What do you all suggest for that, backing up, INEXPENSIVELY? Flash drives are out of the question for something of this measure, right? Discs also? I know nothing about this and I'm guessing that before I go installing Snow Leopard & iLife 11, that I need to consider this.

OS X :: Get ILife 08 - After Fresh Installation Of Snow Leopard?

Aug 27, 2009

How do I get iLife 08 (which came preinstalled) onto my Mac after I do a fresh installation of Snow Leopard (if possible)? Is it possible to do a fresh install of Snow Leopard? I've heard all sorts of things, but I don't know what to believe. Will I just have to reinstall Leopard and then install Snow Leopard? (Will I have to get all the updates [10.5.x updates] once Leopard is installed before I install Snow Leopard?)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Re-installing ILife From Snow Leopard

Feb 22, 2012

I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2011), which had Snow Leopard on it and came with iLife installed. I've installed Lion onto this machine (initially from the app store, but I had to re-format and re-install). My question is: How do I get iLife back onto Lion?

I've looked in the app store, however on iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band the button doesn't say "Install", but rather "Accept". Pressing this prompts me to put in my password, and then says "Future versions of this app can be downloaded from software update." However, software update has no new updates. How do I get these back?

OS X :: Recent Snow Leopard Upgrade - Functionality Of ILife Again?

Jun 26, 2010

the title vaguely suggests I've recently made the upgrade from OsX Leopard to the Snow Leopard. In doing that, I did a clean install (as in I made a backup, and then wiped my HDD and then installed Snow Leopard) and Now, foolishly realised that iLife isn't a "App" but rather a $80 software purchase. So, I tried to copy + paste (yes yes, I'm a noob - but this is how I understood it would work) iPhoto (as its the App I wish to use, so I can view my iPhone photos on my Mac) and it's now mentioning I can't open this program as I don't have iLife 09'.
So, short of repurchasing the software package. Is there any method for me to have the functionality of iLife again? I've tried to locate individual updates from the Apple support site, but the version I tried, 8.1.2 I believe. Was not needed, again due to iLife 09' not being installed. And I don't wish to sit through downloading numerous updates in the hope I may find the correct one.

Here is what I did WAS running 10.5.8 Updated to 10.6 using a USB Downloaded and installed 10.6.3 Combination update (everything worked great) Installed iLife 2011 Downloaded latest update for iLife because is said I could not use it unless i updated.

Software :: Mail Bombs On Opening After Install Of Snow Leopard & ILife?

Apr 5, 2010

My hard drive died and was replaced a week or so a go. The technician in the iSpot store (the substitute for Apple Stores in Warsaw, Poland) installed Snow Leapord and apparently did not install iLife. After I restored using Migration Assistant from my Time Machine, the iLife programs and Mail would not load.

I took it back and the tech reinstalled reinstalled OS 10.6 and iLife'09. I restored again from Time Machine the the iLife programs then would load and work fine, but Mail is still bombing. Here is what it says in relevant part in the window that appears after clicking on Mail in the dock.

I have tried to reinstall iLife'09 and still get this message.

Does anyone have suggestions for what to do? How do I get it to find the "suitable image"?

Software :: ILife Or No ILife With Leopard?

Nov 19, 2007

So I bought Leopard family-pack and installed on 4 Macs (and de-installed one). All installs were "clean installs". And all yielded Leopard WITHOUT iLife products (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).

Now people tell me that they also did "clean installs" and iLife was present afterwards.

The only difference I can judge is that I used a family pack whilst the others used a "single licence" pack.

Can anyone provide some light into this?

MacBook Pro :: After Clean Install Snow Leopard, Can't Install Bundled Application (ilife)?

Apr 2, 2012

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.

It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:

1)normal install - fail

2)repair permission - fail

3)install in safe mode - fail

4) install using another admin acc - fail

5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail

6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai

7)updated my system and install - fail

8) reinstall the mac - fail

i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

OS X :: Is There A Free Way To Run/emulate OS X Snow Leopard While Running Leopard?

Is there a free way to run/emulate OS X Snow Leopard while running Leopard?

I had a billion problems when I upgraded to Snow Leopard but some software that I don't use frequently only works with it so I want to be able to run those apps while still staying in my less buggy OS X Leopard.

I don't want to have dual boot operating systems. OS X Leopard 10.5 is my primary OS.

OS X :: 10.6 Snow Leopard Running On PPC?

Jul 3, 2009

As all of you know, according to Apple, Snow Leopard runs only on Intel chips. Also, as a lot of you know, PPC and Intel versions of OS X report themselves as such, ie PPC 10.5, Intel 10.5 and so on...

Yesterday, as I was looking over my traffic logs, I found something quite interesting...

"PPC 10.6"

I got one visit right after the day of WWDC, and another visit just 2 days ago...

Someone just spoofing what their machine reports? Or someone running an an early internal build of SL during which time maybe they had multiple versions?

OS X :: How Much RAM Can I Put In My IMac Running Snow Leopard

Sep 26, 2009

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and one of the questions I'm struggling to find an answer to, is just how much RAM can I put in my iMac? I'm running a 3.06GHz core 2 duo iMac, 2008 (last model, without the new fancy graphics card). And, it currently runs 4Gb of RAM. With all of the Snow Leopard talk of your system running a virtually infinite amount of RAM, how much can I run???

Am I limited in some way by the motherboard in my iMac? Or can I "fill my boots!!"?

I've attached a screenshot of my current system configuration.

OS X :: Running IDVD7 04 In Snow Leopard 10.6.x?

Nov 15, 2009

I finally needed to use iDVD to make a DVD for family members of the pictures I took an my niece's wedding. I told my wife "Sure, no problem we can do that on my Mac..." [URL] I have spent the last two weekends, and most of last week trying to get iDVD to work. My poor MBP. I reinstalled, deleted plists files, rooted out every trace of the program, repaired permissions, reinstalled, updated, searched Apple's site for some clue, all with no joy...

The program will open, allow me to start a project, and then just disappear. If I try to exit, it comes back and asks if "I want to save the project," then the dreaded spinning beach ball. I have to force quit the program. On the other hand, if I go the Magic Disk route, it will let me assemble the project, but when I try to preview, or save the project, the program disappears completely. ARG, So frustrating!!!

[URL]

Today I was at least able to make a DVD to show proof of concept to my lovely wife...

It dawned on me that when I installed Snow Leopard, I did it on a minty fresh 500 gig hard drive. I still had the old Leopard 10.5 on the old disk I had in a USB external case, which I keep at work as a backup. (I recommend when a major upgrade happens to purchase two of the largest hard drives available at that time, using one for a time machine, and the other one to install the new OS on, keeping the old disk as a backup in case of disaster. Until now I have never Needed the old system...) Anyway I brought it home, plugged it into the MBP, and had no problem making the disk.

So, this leads me to the question, "Has anyone else had success-running iDVD 7.04 from iLife 08 in Snow Leopard 10.6.x?" If so, what hoops did you have to jump through to get it to work? It seems on the sites I looked at anyway that iDVD from iLife 09 is not much different, but I don't know anyone here in town who has it to test it out. I would love to be able to work from SL, rather than off my old backup.

OS X :: Running Out Of Inodes On Snow Leopard?

Jun 14, 2010

I've got a 750 GB RAID-1 array on my Snow Leopard Mac Pro that is running dangerously low on inodes. It only has 144,000 files on it but look what df -i claims: Filesystem 512-blocks Used Available Capacity iused ifree %iused Mounted on /dev/disk13 1464477312 1394933032 69544280 96% 174366627 8693035 95% /Volumes/RAID-1 750

It claims 174 MILLION inodes are used with only 8.6 million to go.

Will Snow Leopard automatically add more inodes?
