View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

View 24 Replies View Relatedi have a macbook 2.0 unibody. i just bought 500Gb internal hard drive and i want to replace the stock 160Gb with it. how do i move all my stuff from my old drive to the new one? i don't have the cash to buy an external hard drive just so i can move my stuff back and forth, i will have no need for an external right now since i have a 500Gb internal. someone told me to get an HDD caddy and use the stock drive as an external. what i am wondering is, will i be able to transfer all my applications without having the install files (i deleted all my install files as soon as i installed them). is it going to be a simple "drag and drop" kind of deal and every file knows exactly where to go? i just don't know what complications might come about.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a basic PC with XP and I am getting a MBP 13" tomorrow.
I have an external hard drive... Can I just put the stuff onto it (only like 40gb) and then transfer it to the Mac easily?
Or is it complicated...?
I don't care about being able to use it back and forth regularly. I just want a one time transfer.
I am upgrading the HD on my UMBP to a 500 gig Scorpio Blue , and putting the original one in the case which is USB only, NO firewire only USB. What would be the best method for transferring my information from the old to the new? I did do a search here on the forums but did not find anything that really hit the nail on the head so to speak.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MBP and just got a new 500gb HD to pop in replacing my 160gb one. I have about 200gb free on an NTFS external I was planning on using time machine to back up my system for seamless HD swap but as we know, macs don't play nice with NTFS. If possible, I would like to not have to re-install all my applications and such. I found other software (SuperDuper) that should do the same thing but none will play with my NTFS external. I guess my question is this: I have a SATA to USB adapter, can I: Plug in new HD via USB, Format to OSX Journaled, then do a time-machine backup to the new drive, pop in the new HD and be good to go?

I sent my computer out for replacement of Logic Board. When I got the computer back it was wiped clean which was not a big deal since I had backed it up to my Time Capsule before I sent it out. When I started the computer it asked me if I wanted to restore from my Time Capsule, but then after it calculated the information I wanted to transfer it said, "Not enough space available to transfer. Select fewer folders in Documents & Data or turn off other items to continue." If I backed up my computer to Time Capsule without issue, why can't it transfer it all back to the same computer?
