View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a used 15" PowerBook Ti 1.0GHz with a fresh install of OSX 10.5.8.
Even though I am logged in as Administrator it will not allow me to rename folders or to delete some files. When trying to rename a folder, for example, it displays, " You do not have sufficient access privileges to rename the item."
I have run the Disk Utility to repair permissions but with no improvement.
When I Get Info on the folder, it says I have Read and Write permissions but I cannot change the name in the Get Info box, either.
This might sound like a stupid question, but is there a way to rename Preview??
View 23 Replies View RelatedThis is strange. All of a sudden I am unable to rename a Folder from untitled folder to anything. I can highlight it, but nothing happens when I try to type in a new title. I tried it on the Desktop and Finder. Any ideas? It would be prety hard to find anything if everything was in folders titled 'untitled'.

Is there a way to force it to rename the second photo.jpg to photo2.jpg or something so i don't have to decide to replace or only have one image?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to rename a couple files in finder. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I can click on the file to bring up the cursor, and the name gets highlighted. Once I start typing however, it just takes whatever I have typed and closes the cursor edit box and I have to start all over again.
It's like I have a 2 second window to rename a file. Even if I click and the cursor comes up, if I don't type anything and watch it the cursor disappears after 2-5 seconds.
I have Root - but can't seem to rename my home folder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my user account, and I need to start fresh with a new account. My plan is to create a new user account and transfer my documents and images (but not my preferences) from my current account to that one. However, once I've migrated the data, I'd like to rename the new home folder with the same name as the old one to prevent any broken links from applications that will be looking for files in my old account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed for a few months now both in 10.5 on my PowerMac and 10.6 on my MBP that often when I click to rename a file in the finder, it will a few seconds later "un-select" the renaming as if I had hit return to finish renaming the file. I then have to click it again to finish renaming the file. Sometimes, it will do this 2-3 times before it quits exiting on its own. I wonder if Spotlight could be interfering sometimes because it often seems to do it when the window is first open and OSX is in the middle of updating the little icons to show video snapshots and the like. But I've also seen it happen after they're all updated as well. I don't recall seeing this problem on either Mac more than say 6 months ago or so. It certainly never used to do it as I've had the MBP for over 2 years now and the PowerMac for around 4 years and I would have noticed. I wonder if one of the system updates might have changed something, for example.
Has anyone else noticed any issues with renaming files being unselected like that in the middle of typing?
How can I rename a .icc color profile in OS X
I used my Pantone Huey to calibrate bith my main display and my secondary (just switched primary display between the two machine)
Everything worked great but I have 2 profiles that have the exact same name.
I can open up the .icc and do a save as but that just changes the file name not the name displayed in sytem preferences
is there an quicker way (preferably a keyboard command) to rename a file in the finder (or on the desktop) than either command+i (which then involves another click) or a slow double click on the file itself?

How do I rename drives my Mac recognizes? My iDisk is my MobileMe login name (I'd prefer "iDisk") and my Air Sharing Pro shared drive is my IP address. I want to change that to Air Sharing, or something.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched around and have not been able to find an answer to my problem. I am having a very tough time trying to rename files/ folders on my late 2008 Unibody MB. This has always happened with this computer since the day I purchased it. When I am trying to rename a file or folder, I hit the return key so I can edit the name on the file. I then try to either backspace or click and drag the selected text that I want to delete. 9 out of 10 times it stops me from doing it mid deleting or adding text. It's like someone it pressing the return key as I am in the middle of editing the text. I am sure I am not pressing the trackpad or enter key accidentally. This is really getting on my nerves and I am about to throw this computer at a wall if I cannot get this fixed.
It's always allows me a different amount of time to edit before it saves it automatically. I am trying to rename over 1000 files on external/ internal hard drives so I can get the correct name for movies in plex/ iphoto. I know I can go into Get Info and edit the name in there, but that would take forever renaming a thousand files. It literally takes me 5 to 10 times just to rename one file. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this problem? I have also tried using the Apple BT keyboard and have the exact same results.
Also completely random question, is there a way to disable the IR port on the MB so when I am controlling the Mac Min HTPC it doesn't keep messing with the MB by bringing up Frontrow, pausing/playing tracks? I literally have to cover the IR port with my finger just so I can use the remote on the mini.
i have my home folder named something but it is not exactly what i want. my co woorker set it up but it is just numbers and it isen't exactly what i want. how can i change my the name with out needing a new user account made up.

View 2 Replies View Related, this is mainly an aesthetics thing so it isn't too important, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I recently created a Windows partition, and while I am in OSX the partition shows up on my desktop as a drive called "Untitled". It cannot be renamed and it persists on the Desktop even when I uncheck "show hard disks on desktop" in the Finder settings (which I usually leave unchecked).
I was just wondering if there was a way I could rename it something like "Windows HD" to contrast with Macintosh HD and if I can hide it from the Desktop like I do with the Mac partition.
I have a folder with a TON of photos. I have a bunch of photos I want to put into that folder but a bunch of the filenames are the same. Normally with a few photos I would just rename the file but there's way too many.
Is there any way to rename the files or do something so I can copy the new photos into my photo folder without any overwriting going on?

The filenames are like 213.mp3 or 23.mp3
When I plugin my ipod, the filenames are all wacky looking.

Can I rename them so they show up as 213.mp3 on my ipod also?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a digital photo frame to see my pictures, but it only plays photos secuencially, it can't be set on "shuffle". So if I could rename the photos with random names, then the effect would be the same, as I would be seeing them in "shuffle".
I know automator can rename files, and there are many many apps that also rename, but I haven't found one that can give the files a random name!
