I know it's my fault I erased the "Previus System" folder too fast. But shouldn't I have at least the standards .pkg files in /Library/Receipts folder, such as languages, XCode (yes, I installed it), and so on.
View 1 RepliesI have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
I have a bunch of album covers that got transfered from my old windows computer. I want to delete them but when I drag them into the garbage can nothing happens. It asks me to type in my password which I do but it doesn't delete the files. When I hit more info on them it doesn't say they are locked or anything.

Is there anyway to recover these files? I sent a support request to mediatemple to see if they have backups that they can recover too.
We have a tape backup system here at work that backs up his user account. Would there be a specific file to look for that might contain the old messages?

I recently deleted all my Garageband files and emptied the trash by mistake, and I spent ALL YESTERDAY trying to find software to recover it. I spent $100 for Data Rescue 2, which I thought would work, but after talking to their customer service i was informed that DR2 is incapable of recovering "packaged files", hence Garageband. Please i need these files more than anything! Does anybody know of any other program that can recover my Garageband files??

I wanted to delete from my desktop some useless for me files like some ipsw files downloaded earlier, pwnage tool, but when I wanted to trash those ones, CleanMyMac asked if I'd like to uninstall pwnagetool, I marked yes, because I thought that there may be some register files, than trashed the rest of files (cleared trash) and after rebooting my Mac seems to be formated, I mean whole settings, iLifes libraries disappeared, settings were zeroed but apps and data in Documents and Downloaded were the same. (I am almost sure that the problem was in deleting files with CleanMyMac), anyway at first I thought that was a glitch, recovered time machine backup and did the same, than restarted Mac - the same, now I am 100% sure about that, but I have to waiting another 6h with my very fast WD MyBook - because that time is required to wait with it if you want to recover 120GB, I wish I had TimeCapsule.

I had moved it from my document file to the desk top because I couldn't figure out how to create a shortcut for that file to eliminate going through all the steps to get to the file. Now, it is gone. Who the heck knows how that happened, but it did. the steps to recover those recipes. Most of them are written in the PAGES file extension, so the DOC recovery system I used didn't see any of my PAGES files.

When I delete files from them the available space does not increase, the only way to get the memory back is to format them. If I check the info it still shows space used after I delete every file, and not a little used space it shows the amount of space before I delete anything. When I disconnect the drive my Trash is empty, but whenever I plug it in these files appear again. View 9 Replies View RelatedI bootcamped my Macbook Pro with minimal assistance from my mac geek husband tonight - and messed up - BIG TIME. When in the "partition mode" of windows it asked which of the systems I wanted to FAT or partition. Well - me not knowing - thought the 200mb space was a little small and deleted it.
When the system restarted and I read the error - I knew I was in BIG trouble. So I went to boot camp assistant and got this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I am FREAKING out BIG TIME! Can you help me to restore the information - so I may go and humbly as my husband to help me do it right - or maybe google the directions before starting.
When you delete something but change your mind, and the app is still in the trash bin, how can I restore back to its location with all the components? I know I can simply drag the main app to my application folder but what about the other components?
